The only way to assure safe and accurate grooming is to do it yourself, really. That's what I do, and I'd never leave my kiddos in the hands of strangers. You can learn how to do it - I promise :)!
would like you to know I am learning slowly, so eventually Sandy will even be a past person. I'm not that great yet, but, AM learning.

Oh Yeah, you said it all. They are also very over priced. I sware after our experience I felt I took my baby to executioners. Never, never again.

Petsmart hires novice groomers. When I was just out of high school I was looking for a job. This girl I knew was a groomer at Petsmart and she got me an interview and they offered me a position with no prior knowledge or experience. Basically they will hire anyone. They will put you through their grooming school. It's not long or extensive. It's like right after you get your certificate from beauty school, will the salon in Beverly Hills hire you or do you have to work at Supercuts for a few years? Petsmart is like Supercuts.

I live in a small town (but very spread out land wise). We only have two choices for pet grooming: Petsmart and one other place (which is all the way across the county from us). The only problem we have ever had with our Petsmart is them not cutting enough. Thankfully, they've never over cut; however, now that we have two, we groom them ourselves almost all of the time. My husband set up a table in our garage with a pole. We have multiple fans going for summer and a heater for winter. We do not have to use a leash loop with Zeus, but we do with Perseus. Percy is a squirmy little boy. My husband shaves their bodies, and I do the finger cutting on the legs. We both work on their heads and faces. It's work but well worth it in the end. They are happier (if they can be getting their hair cut) at home and with us. Learning to do it was not that hard, and like someone else said, we can screw it up like anyone else for free. If it was a novice groomer that did what they did to my puppy, I'd have tried to understand. This was the supervisor who said she had been doing grooming for 10 years. Whatever she did to my puppy when she took her behind the station where we couldn't see was bad enough that Chews came home terrified and screaming- with tail tucked under. Only thing they DID do right was to keep that damn noose off of her. I trust our current groomer with that thing, but we watched those girls use it with her feet off the ground.

Well I just got back from Pet Smart . I talked to the manager of the grooming department . I told them everything. They gave me a full refund and apologized for everything. Well at least now they look goofy for free.

Just bc someone has so many years of experience doesn't mean they are any good. Like I said, if you were a good hairstylist, would you be working at a salon in Beverly Hllls or would you be working at Supercuts?

I just read this thread and was thinking how angry I'd be too! The closest I came to this experience was leaving my 5 month old baby with a friend who has a Yorkie because we went on vacation. When we came back, they trimmed his bangs because they were over hanging into his eyes. I was so upset! But oh well, can't blame friends. They thought they were doing what was best, as they do to their own dog. :(

Anyway. SOOO glad you made a complaint to the manager and that you got a full refund. It's ridiculous they even charged you for it. They should have been apologizing profusely instead.

Like other suggested, you can try out grooming yourself. It's a really fun bonding experience between you and your little one :)

And on the other side of the spectrum...I've known from day one that I have thee best groomer everrrr! Carolyn really listens to me and will repeat my 'directions' if I've been unclear. She 'gets' me and understands Piper; when I hand her to Carolyn, you can just see Piper relaxing in her arms~~right?! I am fortunate to have found Carolyn; she's a lovely, loving person and a uniquely talented & skilled groomer. I trust her with my Pipe and that, pretty much, says it all.

Right. I said that. No other reputable grooming company will hire them.

Yeah! I'm glad they gave you a refund and an apology. Maybe they will start listening to their customers.

Oh no! I would be upset too, but hard to blame a friend if they took good care of your baby otherwise. :)

The craziest story I have read here on YT happened to a member when she brought her full coat Yorkie to the vet for a routine visit. The vet tech, without permission, cut the dog's mustache, the hair at the corners of the eyes, claiming it was absolutely necessary to do on all Yorkies. :eek:

I had a great groomer who closed her business because of health issues. She would do just what you wanted and her prices were great also a full grooming was $25 for one and $15for second one if you brought them in together. She really loved what she did and it showed in your pets they loved her. I wish I could find another groomer like her . I think I will try to groom my girls myself.
