1 dog vs. 2 I am thinking about getting another dog because mine is very playful. I was wondering how much extra work that will add. Could those of you that have more than one dog let me know if the work increases by a lot? I thought that if I'm already feeding one, taking one outside, etc. then it will not be hard to do this for another dog at the same time. The only additional work I can think of is bathing an additional dog. I give my dog a lot of attention when I'm at home because she constantly wants to play. I'm so drained by the end of the night. If I got another would they need less play time with me since they have each other to play with or would I have to spend more time playing to keep the two dogs happy? |
Having more than one is great. They play together, and have lots of fun. You'll get more laughs, and a lot more kisses!! :D :D :D |
The hardest thing for me having 2 pups was feeding. Lexi was on adult food and Tori on puppy food. Both wanted the what the other wanted. Other than that I love having 2 and even want one more. |
I have multiple fur kids and I have no complaints. Other than the triple cost of grooming/babysitting/vet bills, etc. However, you get multiple joys, smiles, laughter, and pictures!! I wouldn't change it for the world. :D |
I don't think it is much more work moving from having 1 dog to 2 dogs. The benefits are much greater as I think the dogs are much happier having a constant play buddy and of course you will have double the love. The biggest difference as someone mentioned is that you are looking at double the costs. As long as you can afford it, I say go for it! :D |
I've always been the type to just want ONE furbaby at a time so when we moved to the country and my husband wanted another, we had to compromise. I have a big issue with shedding dogs - both my sister and sister-in-law have big shedding dogs in the house and I can't stand it. My husband wanted an Australian Shepherd. Being that we are in the country and wanted a "watch dog", Stormie (the AS) is now our official "outside dog" and Tatum (the Yorkie) is the "inside dog". We actually are both happy with the situation - Tatum gets to play and run to her hearts content with Stormie outside and then come in and be a cuddle baby with me inside. Stormie gets lots of attention too as the kids and my hubby are outside all the time. So, yes, two dogs (or more) are great if you can handle it but for me personally, one inside and one outside is the best of both worlds! |
I have five dogs total but I also love it. Sure, it's a hassle to travel and all but my dogs give me so much in return and they provide more than I could ever imagine. The two bigger dogs are company for each other and the yorkies play with each other even when I take one with me. It's more work but it is definitely better for us and the dogs since dogs are pack animals and usually love the company of other dogs. |

This is exactly why I wanted to get another dog. ceeby wears me out. BUT, I messed up and got an older dog and she won't even come down from the couch and play. He has bothered me less tho anyway. It is extra work, extra grooming, extra face to wash every day, extra food to put down, extra food mess to clean up not to mention the extra accidents on the carpets with pee pads everywhere |
It is definitely extra work with two but you really dont notice it. They do keep each other company more which is good and it is bad. They look to the other dog more for companionship than to you. Both of my dogs have unique personalities and I would not change a thing. They are still both very dependent creatures. |
If one dog already takes all the time you have, how could another one take any mroe? :animal36 :animal36 |

Having more than one dog is great! I have three and one more on the way soon! Of course they'll still want to play with you, but they can entertain each other when you need a bit of a break. |
I want the same thing! My hubby thinks im crazy- but i think it will be great for Maddie. We wwork during the day and I go home and check on her- but i feel so much more comfortable if she had a playmate to keep her busy!!! i say GO FOR IT! |
Pebblesmama, that is why I'm asking. I was thinking that the one that I have will play with the other dog, so it would take less of my time. Please let me know if I'm wrong. Sure I will spend more time cleaning up, training, etc, but I'm already doing that for one. This will not take up a lot more time by adding another dog, right? Most of my time goes to playing with her because I feel like I have to play with her the entire time I'm home. If I had another dog then I would not have to spend as much time playing, right? Or will I have to spend more time to play with 2? My parents and sister think that it will take more time and be more trouble. They don't have more than one pet, so I thought I would ask all of you that do. |
When I got Cali I had always only had 1 dog at a time for the resaons you state, I didn't want my other to be jealous. Well my pom is such a reclusive dog, hangs out under the bed all the time, I just decided to go get another Yorkie, I missed having one so bad. I am thrilled with having the 2. Cali is my little cuddle bug and Maya is well jusy Maya but I love her anyway. Yesterday when Maya was at the groomers it seemed weird to only have one dog in the house. I love it when I come home and there are 2 faces to greet me. My only problem is Maya is so old ( 9) And not into playing. I really would like another one for Cali to play with so you never know! I say Go for it! |
