Two is great, it starts to get difficult when you have three or more! |
I'd like to get a sister for Kelsey. She wants to play all of the time and I feel like I can't fufill her needs some of the time.....I can only play so much after a hard days' work! My sister has two dogs (boston terrier and a pug) and they play with eachother, sleep etc. it's so cute. I would like for Kelsey to have that closeness with another dog. I am thinking about it... |
I would never have just one dog if I could help it. :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Two together make it easier on me and on the pups. They have another one to sleep, eat and play with, especially when they are home without owners. Even with different personalities, they become attached to one another. I would think the financial end of it should be examined though - 2 times the vet, grooming, licensing, food, etc. can add up. The hardest thing is if you have just 2 and one dies and the other is left to grief alone for the one they lost. That's another reason I support what some have eluded to - have 2 that are similiar in age. There are no guarantees that they will have similar life spans, but chances of similar life spans will be much closer if they are about the same age, rather than if they are several yrs apart. Of course, if you're going to put a big dog with a little Yorkie the big dog might actually have the shorter life span. Not sure why little dogs live longer lives - maybe because we owners baby them all the more! yorkiesmiles Bubba and Roxie |
I have 4 dogs in my house and it works very well. They are wonderful company for each other and for us. If your heart is telling you that you need another dog, (and you can afford it) listen to it. Everything will work out for you. |
I got Dublin because my dogs were getting older, but they wouldn't play enough for him. That's when I got Widget. Now Dublin makes his rounds and wears them all out and still wants to play more! I swear he's like the Energizer Bunny!! Our house is set up to accommodate them, too. They have their own room and each has their own cage (although they're never in either :rolleyes: ) and the room has a dog door out into a dog run. I free feed them Canidae All Life Stages and I use big bowls for the food and water. Right now it may sound like a lot, but I know the older boys won't be with me much longer. :( Good luck in your decision. |
