Thanks everyone for the help, that was a good idea not to buy one of the expensive ones right now.

Make sure the measurement is a snug measurement, against the body without adding any extra room. That is how to determine the correct size. Buddy Belts hug the body without being tight or loose. There is some room to adjust with the 5 belt buckle holes.

I went on Amazon and found the original Buddy Belt harness for $43.99 and the Durable BB for $24.95. The original looked like a pair of eyeglasses but but the Durable BB looked bulky. Which one is better and more comfortable?

Went on chewie.com and found out the Durable BB is made of synthetic leather and the original is made with real leather--thus the difference in price.

Need Better Harness
 
I've got a serious issue: My 6 mo old pup Sheba walks backwards OUT of every harness we've tried. :eek:
Is there one out there that wouldn't allow her to do this?


I've already added extra Velcro to the closure, but that didn't help. It's like she's a Houdini & escapes out of everything...:cool:

I'm going to look into getting the ChokeFree harness for Gidget. It's a plus for me since it can't be ordered on line. I found (on their web site) a store near me where I can actually try the harness on and get the right size. Will go sometime next week and I'll keep you posted on what I find.

I like the look and ease of putting the choke free on and it's a little cheaper then the BB. I wish there was a store in St. Louis that sold them.

The chokefree.com website doesn't sell them but lists retailers and some websites that sell them. A quick look at some in California turned up the below url. They list leather choke frees for $36.99. I think that price is about typical, and you'll probably have to pay shipping if you can't find a retailer near you. Choke frees come in both leather and mesh, but I've never tried the mesh. I have leather for both my dogs, and I love it. It holds up well and is not too hard to cause any irritation. Going back to step in harnesses is out of the question for me. I just love the simplicity and functionality of the choke free.

The mesh ones look almost too bulky for our little ones. Are the leather ones narrower than the mesh. I want to go to a retailer so I can be sure of the size. Too often I've ordered what I thought was the right size and it turned out to be either too small or too large. That meant returning the item--UGH. Thanks for the info.

At the online store Putting on the dog both mesh and leather start at $20.00 and go up with each size. To me the mesh doesn't look to bulky.

I have only used Buddy Belt, and Katie has several of them. Once you have the correct size, it will last for years. I was able to lift Katie from harm (big dogs charging at her) on two occasions. If it's fit properly I don't think it's possible for a dog to get out of one. I have seen the choke free harnesses, but I like the leather on the Buddy Belts much more. They are also much more adjustable. Katie can wear either of two sizes, and I like the larger one when she is wearing bulky jackets or if I have her doubled up with cashmere sweaters and jackets. Otherwise, usually the smaller one can be worn with a sweater or bare because of the adjustability factor.

I bought liners, but I haven't used them. I always buy the softer Buddy Belts. I highly recommend Kristin (Maximo), so much that, even if I see a color I like but Kristin doesn't have it, I will not buy it. Her customer service and integrity are second to none.
