Do you take your baby with you My husband of 55 years passed away recently and I got my Gidget shortly after that. She's my little companion, my support, my follower from room to room, she sleeps with me. I'd like to take her with me when I leave the house but don't know how I can do that. Do any of you take your little ones with you when you go someplace during the day? She's only 15 weeks old, but I feel so lost when I leave the house without her. Sigh! Any suggestions? |
I take my girl with me as much as I could. So I got several suggestions :) there are carriers that you can strap to yourself, strollers, purse carriers or even "purse" harness (where you can carry them like a purse). There's also car-seats/boosters. I have everything, myself, and am awaiting a stroller I just bought. I also find out about places that are pet friendly or don't mind pets. Aside from pet stores, I've found craft stores such as Hobby Lobby and Michael's are pet friendly. I think home depot is too but I do know that Lowe's stopped allowing pets. I remember seeing a list on pinterest on pet friendly places, but it's still advised to call ahead of time and be sure if they'll allow it as some specific store's management may not allow it. Also there's parks and stuff. I'd check the local areas for such places. Any place that serves/sells food will not allow pets and I know that service fields that are personal, like spas and salons, don't allow pets because of sanitation reasons, as well. |
Sorry for your loss :( My little boy goes with me all the time unless it's real hot and I have business to attend to If my little guy could reach his leash, we'd be gone all the time :) |
Penny goes with us whenever possible. She loves to be with us and is a little lady. |
Cooper goes with us as much as possible He is 9 months old and goes to work with me everyday. We travel 100 miles round trip to and from work so he is in the car a lot. We go to grocery stores, walmart, menards, home depot, Macs hardware, Scheels Sports, Pet stores and so forth. So far only one restaurant. I just walk in with him and place him in the shopping cart on a blanket and tie his leash so he can not jump out. We figure the worst thing that can happen is that they ask us to leave.... |
Jackson is a bigger Yorkie at 19lbs so I definitely don't carry him around, however I bring him almost everywhere he's allowed to go on leash. :) He's very well behaved in stores & loves to be with me. Any type of errands... I travel between houses a lot so he's often with me, so like little things like getting my oil changed, car washed, etc, he's always welcome at places like that. Downtown area here is very dog friendly- many stores allow dogs. Outdoor patios at restaurants... home/garden type stores, places like Home Depot, etc.... I'm very respectful. If a place specifically states no dogs, I do not bring him in. If I was ever asked to leave, I would leave respectfully. Any place that sells food I do not bring him in. Just be courteous to others, make sure your dog is socialized & trained, and be aware that not everyone likes dogs and you should be good. |
As long as Gidget is healthy and current on her shots, she should be fine. I take Piper with me to Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, Ross, Big Lots and such. She is 9 lbs and for the most part walks on leash; I carry her in food sections and/or if store is busy. I also make sure she is clean and cute (well, geez, the 'cute' part simply cannot be helped, yes?!). I introduce Piper to anyone who is interested (but do not ever let anyone take or hold your Gidget--ever!!). My condolences for your loss and may God bless you and your little Gidget through this trying times and always. So very wonderful you have this baby to make life interesting, busy, and to remind you to laugh! |
So sorry for your loss! I take mine with me a lot. Will she stay in a bag? That's a gray way to transport her around if she will. |
I too am sorry for your loss. I do not have my baby Biscuit yet but - like many others here - I've purchased carriers for all situations that I can think of, where I can take him with me. Where and where I can I will have him with me. :animal37 |
I'm sorry for your loss of your husband. We try to take the boys everywhere we can because they love riding in the car and going places. Having 2 humans, one of us stays in the car when we can't bring the dogs in to a place, like the grocery store. Anywhere there isn't food, you can probably bring her in a carrier. |
I wish I could take them with me more places. But I trying to carry around two 13 pound yorkies on public transportation is no fun. If I had a car they would be going to more places. Also many of the stores and malls I go to do not allow dogs. |
I'm so sorry for your loss. We take our two everywhere we possibly can. Right now we are heading back to NJ from a vacation in SC and they are staying at the Hilton Garden in NC with us. They ride well in the car, secure in their car seat. |
I'm so sorry for your loss. We take our two everywhere we possibly can. Right now we are heading back to NJ from a vacation in SC and they are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn exit 171 in NC with us. They ride well in the car, secure in their car seat. |
So sorry for your loss. I take Cody with me when ever I can and where dogs are allowed, even if it's just to the bank. He loves the car and the attention he gets. As long as your baby has had all her shots take her. Just make sure they are pet friendly places. LunarBerry gave you lots of ways for her to travel with you, just a heads up lol, as a sweet lil puppy she will attract a LOT of attention and get LOTS of pettings. NO one can resist a wee little puppy. |
I take Tessa with me to most of the stores I go to. I have a black purse bag with net in front and back. She weighs around 3 lbs so most of the time they don't even notice. The ones that do are little children that stand at that level they'll catch her looking at them. She doesn't bark at them but does get excited when they try to pet her but can't because of the netting. My sister that worked at Walmart told me not to worry because they were told not to question the customers because so many people have service dogs for different reasons besides blindness. I enjoy taking her with me don't like leaving her by herself, she's 3 yrs but still my baby. |
My husband loves to take our two with us, although sometimes I do have to put my foot down. Mine are both around 3lbs and love to go on car rides. It's taken prActice but they will let us eat at restaurants with patios. I general assess were we are going first and determine whether it will be safe and comfortable. |

:thumbup::thumbup: I recently learn that our local mall changed their policy and was now dog friendly, except dogs were not allow down in the food court and you needed to ask permission before entering any store. Husband had an appointment with the Apple store (located inside the mall) to have his cell phone serviced after our dog training classes. The pups and I waited in the car when he came and got us. There were 3 other well behave dogs in the store and more walking around in the mall. |
My Gidget will get her last shots next week. The following week my sister and I are taking a trip to Highlands, NC. The place where we're staying is pet friendly and most restaurants are also since many of them have outdoor seating. This will be a test for her since I've not been able to take her too many places up until now. Many people who are not dog lovers don't realize what a service our little companion dogs perform for us. They love us without question, don't judge us and love being with us. They perform as much of a service to many of us but can't be classified as service dogs. Gidget will be either in a purse/bag, in her stroller with the stop down (she doesn't like being confined so I leash her in and tie the leash to the handle of the stroller) or in a carry bag around my neck. She might weigh 3 lbs at this point but no more than that. Her full adult weight will be around 5 lbs. Since husband of 55 years passed away recently, she is a great companion for me. She keeps me busy just taking care of her. She's being trained to the wee wee pads and is good about 98% of the time. I think she's doing really well since she's not even 4 months old yet. Luv my Gidgy-girl! |
it isn't very common but there are actually yorkies who are trained service dogs :) |
and ps-I have a few different bags I use when she needs to be in a bag rather then walked. I love them each for different reasons but her favorite is a flat bottomed bag I bought on amazon. o |
I take her everywhere as long as long as I can keep her with me (so not the gym or yoga or a doctor's office). In nyc and the bay area, no one seems to mind, especially if I carry her the whole time (in my arms or a carrier), even in grocery stores, etc. A lot of people here in the bay area seem to like actually :) As long as your dog won't bark at other dogs or bark randomly at people in general, I don't see how it disturbs anyone. Yorkies are hypo-allergetic and are not a danger in the way taking around, say, a rottweiler might be. Dogs are social creatures and enjoy stimulation. And if yours is anything like mine, she always wants to be with her human "mama." |
Sorry for your loss. I take Emma whenever possible. |
travel with my dog My sweet Kippers passed away last month, but my Jazz still comes with me. I bring her to work with me, and on the road when I travel. She is not yappy or needy, so at the office she make the rounds, and I can see everyone smile as she walks by. She knows who the grouchy people are in the office, and she makes an extra effort to make them smile. As a nurse, I can tell you that having the sweet face of your Yorkie around (and they are all sweeet faced) will lower your blood pressure, lower your stress, and break tension of those around you. As you all know, I have my indoor pet potty with me at the office, and in the trunk of my car. Jazz uses her potty in the office, in our hotel room, and when I am visiting friends. It makes travel with my baby easy. Okay, maybe I am over-the-top in loving my dog, but many of you feel as I do, my fur baby is family. I like the question here about bringing your dog with you. I say YES get out and share. Make it your goal this week to take your Yorkie out and share that sweet face with a grouch. Together you can make someone smile today, and your dog will feel, well, like they now have a job as well. |

Yes, many restaurants are pet friendly. Cypress and Wild Time have outside pet friendly areas. Perhaps I will see you there. I will make sure to stop everyone I see with a Yorkie and ask "are you Gidget?" Have you been to Highlands before? Kathy |
Try this app! I am new, but being that my little girl is so young and doesn't eat well when left alone... I have been taking both mine with me if I am going to be gone longer than 2-3 hrs, or no one else is home! This Saturday we are driving 4 hours to take our son to a football camp in PA, so we are taking pups too. I found an app called "BringFido" it uses your current location/or one you plug in to show you nearby "Pet friendly" Hotels, Restaurants, Parks, Beaches , etc! Will try out Saturday!:animal-pa |
Helpful App! Hi all! I am new. But I have discovered an app that helps you to know where the pups are welcome! Its called "BringFido" it uses your current location or you enter one and it will show you "pet friendly" Hotels, Restaurants, Parks, Beaches etc. I plan on giving it a try this weekend , when my husband and I drive our son to a football camp 4 hours away in PA! |
I take my baby with me with me; she has a booster chair for the car and when I'm doing errands she's in a side satchel and so far have had no problems while out. I've taken her to markets, home depot, usps, ups, Michaels, you name it she's there... lol. My baby sleeps with me as well, but she has access to her bed beside mine in case I'm hogging my bed.. = ) Good luck and my condolences. |
Together you can make someone smile today, and your dog will feel, well, like they now have a job as well. I am with you 100%!! I cannot tell you the number of times a stern-faced person has glanced down at Piper and I see their face soften. If it's appropriate, I pick up Piper and introduce her, saying she's friendly...Inevitably, the stern, bored look disappears and smiles appear. These individuals may or may not speak to me, but they always have a smile and comment for Piper. To be able to share a little bit of the joy and laughter Piper has brought into my life makes me feel wonderful. I am continually and sincerely amazed at the affect our Yorkies have on soooo many. I've seen more pictures, heard more stories, been asked more questions standing in the aisles of Wal-Mart or the Dollar Store. And for sure if fellow shopper has or has had (a few heartfelt, teary-eyed memories shared) a Yorkie, well we're pretty much old friends from the first hello---never experienced anything like this before and I simply love the camaraderie, humor, and kindness of Yorkie people, for sure. And I delight in Piper's ability to connect with and bring happiness--if only for a moment or two, to so many. It's truly a Yorkie thing! |
I take my Frankie everywhere with me.....even to my part time job! He is almost 5 lbs and I have an Alfie pet sling he rides in.....I also have a "fundle" but he prefers the sling.....have not had any issues bringing him anywhere...most people are surprised that he is "real"..... |
