Saving a 1 year old yorkie today, no time to research need help! 2 Attachment(s) Hi my family wil pick up a 1 year old yorkie from a family member that has to get rid of her like now, my kids have wated a puppy for a long time so we agreed to take her in. With no time to research im hoping this community can help me with some important info to bring in the new pet. We have no other dogs we do have 2 piggies in a big cage that i think i will have to put a top on now. Any advice would be very much appricated. All we have is what she will be coming with and i think thats a small kennel or carrier and a little food. Thanks in advance we appricate any help. Before and after grooming pics. |

She's very cuuuute! Congrats! If she doesn't come with them already, get a - leash and harness - crate just large enough for her to stand, turn around, and lie down (for potty training purposes - in a new home, pups are more prone to having accidents) - comfy cushion for the crate - brush for hair - toothbrush and dog toothpaste - dog shampoo & conditioner (if you'll bathe her yourself) - more kibble (do a slow transition if you're switching food) - clicker & treats (if you want to do some training) - and most importantly, lots of love :) And when you find the time after settling down, I'd recommend reading: The Housebreaking Bible |
Get a really great book, "Yorkies For Dummies"....it is a super book that is available on Amazon.com, and it will teach you just about everything you will need to have knowledge about! It covers every aspect of Yorkie care! |
Cute! Be sure to get her vet records, or at the very least, her shot records. |

Congrats on your new addition to the family! You mentioned you had kids. If they're very young, please teach them to be gentle/careful with the puppy. I have no experience with little cute piggies so no clue how different/same that would be from having a puppy. Hopefully, someone here can give better advice on how to introduce them so they'd have a positive first meeting. :) |
I thank all of you! Im ordering that book today if i cant find it at a local book store. Thanks for the list of thing we will need. What about around the house do i have to take any precautions? And as far as leaving her home alone and tips or advice we havent thought any of this out, and we going to pick her up in a couple hours. Thanks again! |

Welcome to YT and congrats on your soon to be new baby. If she is not trained to potty out doors you will need some wee-wee pads if she was trained to potty in doors. Where to leave her when you have to leave her alone all depends on if she was out door or in door potty trained. I suggest either an x-pen or an Iris pen to confine her while she is left alone, it's for her safety as well as your peace of mind. Food bowl and a water bowl, ceramic or metal NOT plastic. TOYS, soft rubber with squeaky in it, soft plush toy also with a squeaky, balls, treats. Please keep us up-dated on how she is adapting to her new life and the PIGGIES. VET VISIT ASAP Good luck |

As others said, puppy proof the house, make sure there's no wires to chew on in the small area allowed. Make sure to remove anything you don't want the pup to chew on. Have lots of dog toys ready - a variety of types of toys. They love stuffed animals - just make sure there are no sewn on parts, like eyes, that can be chewed off and swallowed. |
I would start with short trips. See how she does when you are gone for short periods before you leave her alone for any length of time. If she is a chewer than she can do harm to herself and cause some damage to your belongings. I think it is wonderful you are taking her in. She has a face that is asking to be loved! |
