Thank you all again we finally have her home was a rough start she was fussy trying to bite at first so we put something on her head so she couldnt bite. 5 min at home and she wont leave my side the kids love her. She needs a good grooming im taking her to the vet in the morning cause she had no shot records but they say she has had all her shots but im taking her tomarrow to be safe. They were only feeding her 1 time in the morning that cant be good how much and how often should.i feed her? Her is a couple pics. |
As far as feeding, Do you know what her weight is? what ever food you are giving her, if it's dry food, it should have on the bag how much food to feed for dog of her weight. This is just a GUIDE line, she may need more or less then what is on the bag. You can also ask your Vet as this pup could be under weight or over weight. For example, if it reads 1 cup daily, divide that in 2, then feed 1/2 cup in the morning, and 1/2 a cup in the evening, Keep her on a feeding schedule. Example...I feed Cody every morning at 7AM then at 5PM, feeding on a schedule will help you in knowing appox. when she will need to potty. Dogs are creatures of habit, once you start something, they EXPECT it. If you want her to potty outdoors that has to also be scheduled. Feed a same time both morning then at night. After she eats wait 20 minutes then take her outdoors. Times differ with all dogs, so it's a trial and error period until you find out how long she needs before she is ready to potty. Some dogs it may be 30 minutes, some can be 10 minutes after eating. If she is a outdoor potty dog, when you take her out, it is ti POTTY, not a play time, so no playing, tell her what you want her to do, poo poo or pee pee or what ever words you choose. Cody now pees or poops on command lol. Good Luck, it may take time but she will get it. |

Congrats! Welcome to YorkieTalk. Wow! How lucky is this little one to have you all to shower your love on! I would just like to add to the suggestions about safety; watch out for stairs, if you have any. I've taught my dog not to go up/down them, as it is so easy for these little dears to fall. As well, I had trouble with mine biting himself and through trial and error, and loads of input from others here, that mine was allergic to anything fowl; chicken, duck, turkey. All fowl is the same, and some just can't take it. My Bailey has been mucho better since I changed his food and have never looked back. So hard when something is wrong with them and they can't tell us. Just curious - what was their reason for needing a new home for this gorgeous girl? Good luck with your 1yo and I look forward to hearing how things are going. Any names yet? |
sweet pup Hello! Welcome to Yorkietalk!Adorable pup you got! Use harness rather than usual collars. Yorkies' necks are not as tough as other dogs'. What is her name? :) She's lucky to have you! |
First day or 2 in a new home with new ppl she may not eat a normal amount of food, not knowing the brand of food the prev. owner was feeding her, and having just a small bag of what she was eating may not be enough to transition her over to a new brand of food, she may have soft stools. Yes she is going to stick to you like glue. She is scared, confused, she needs time to gain trust in her new surroundings, to bond with your family, you are showing her love, comfort, care, so you are her protector now. As she gains trust in the other members of your family she will share herself with them. Give her a calm quiet place for now to eat. |
Thanks for all the advice its been a long weekend. We renamed her Sparkle. Im surprised at how smart she is she allready knows when i point to her bed she goes right to it, and no accidents in the house so far (fingers crossed) lol and she was left home all day today for bout 8 hours. But she has got a lil aggressive with the kids when they try to pet her she sorta bits at them but i figured she still getting use to them. Right now she is getting her first shampoo and hair cut! We cant wait to see what she looks like all FRESH lol! Again thank you! Is Blue brand dog food a good choice? |
