Puppy looks different to the rest of litter... Hi everyone, I would like some help if possible. I contacted a yorkie breeder who said she had one puppy left and she was a female silk coat. When I arrived she doesn't look like average yorkie puppies do with the fluffy face. All her siblings and parents were pretty fluffy and she isn't at. Could you guys tell me what kind of coat she Possinly has? And how she will look as an adult please. I have a friend with a yorkie who is now 2, however he's quite fluffy when not groomed. Many thanks in advance http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...s5fd04hrp.jpeg |
I can't see the pic for some reason....? |

Me either--I get 'page cannot be displayed' |

Me either..."load fail"...... |
I've added one in an additional post (must have copied the wrong link in) but it needs to be approved? http://i1036.photobucket.com/albums/...s5fd04hrp.jpeg |
2 Attachment(s) How old is the pup? At first glance, I thought she looked more like a chi... This is Magnus when he was about 5-6 weeks old... Attachment 409302 This is recent pic of him. :) Attachment 409303 |

She's just about to be 9 weeks old, a friend thinks she looks like a chi cross yorkie but the breeder maintains she's full breed and I have no reason to doubt that. Just massively curious. When I google short coats I get adult dogs. Isn't he a handsome boy 😍 |
I would agree the puppy doesn't look like the average Yorkie puppy. Most reputable breeders would be able to tell you the type of coat the puppy will have and can also tell how the puppy may look like based on the parents. If it's not a reputable breeder, well, guess you can't believe anything they said... Here is a very helpful tips list when looking to buy a yorkie: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/fea...ead-first.html |
I believe she's a fairly small hobby breeder and has done so for a decade or 2. She's around 70 now. She did say that she was a silk coated puppy and was probably the last one to go because she isn't "typical yorkie looking" |
I am not expert on Yorkie breeders or breeding. In fact, even though I got my pups from a breeder, it was through connections who knew I was looking for a rescue. My pups were almost a year old when I got them, so they typical Yorkie buyers had passed them by. To answer part of your question, I will say that my pups are from the same litter and they do not look a whole lot alike! They have a similar coat type, but their color is different and their body types are different. I met the parents and my little boy looks like a copy of his dad. My little girl looks nothing like anyone in her family, except that she appear to have a similar body type to her mother, who is about two pounds bigger than the father---my pups are about a pound difference in weight. In the case of my pups, I know that there is some parti-Yorkie in there somewhere (maybe from one of the grandparents) so this accounts from my little girl's coloring, which is lighter than that of a typical Yorkie. I was really surprised by how different they are, but I based on my limited experience, I wouldn't be worried if a pup looks different than other family members. I love them both exactly as they are, and the one thing I was able to observe with the parents was the loving and joyful nature that each had. I can see this shining through in my pups, which for me is the most important thing! |
not a yorkie pup, do an image search and you will know what they should look like |
If you guys don't think she's a yorkie what do you think she is? :( |
If you are going to buy a yorkie then get one that you feel fits all the characteristics you want. Don't settle for less. The little one doesn't look yorkie to me. |

I love her regardless so for me and her that's fine. I think I'm just going to have to wait and see what she turns into. The curiosity is a killer though. Thank you for all your opinions, they are much appreciated :) |
I didn't realize that you had purchased her already. In that case, of course you will love her no matter what. She is your baby girl. |

I went for a yorkie due to allergies and asthma and I've not reacted to her once (she's been here for a few days now) So who knows! Trust me to get a mystery pooch haha xx |
pup? I agree she does not look like a Yorkie pup. Good that you still want her and will love her no matter what. :) I hope you did not pay top Yorkie price for her though. |
I paid a fair amount for her although I'm not sure what a typical yorkie costs? I suppose it depends on whose breeding them and how quality they are. My minds still telling me not to write it off yet though. I don't expect a 70 year old lady who is married to an ex police chief to lie about it, she's perfectly adorable regardless. :) |
Pup? For a hobby breeder I would say $600 - $1000 and for a great breeder $1500 up. Just my opinion. The price depends on many things as you mentioned. But she is worth whatever you paid as she is your baby and you love her. Can't put a price on that :). If she is a hobble breeder she might not know the lineage of the parents and could not know for sure what the pups would be like. So she does not need to lie, I agree. Enjoy your little one and please show pics as she grows up. We all love to see pics :). |
I paid £600 so I think that's maybe $1100-1200? Either way she's totally worth it and I will keep updating her pictures. I'm going to have fun watching little missy grow! Thank you ever so much |
Pup Thanks. With an average exchange rate of 1.4 $ to the pound, looks more like $850, so you did well :) . Not that it matters as you say. How old is she now? Hope she is being a good pup and not chewing all your things! Pups can be a handful, LOL! I wondered if you were from Dorset, England or in the US. Awaiting cute pics as she grows. :) |
They have a dna test that you could give her. I can't remember if its 200 dollars or 70. But it'll tell you the breed |
I see a chi mix with yorkie. Very cute though. My dog is also a chorkie and a lovely dog. What may have happened is a chi got to mom when they weren't aware of it- litters can have multiple fathers. |
I used two DNA companies and the cost was around $80.00. |
I paid $400.00 for my first yorkie from a backyard breeder. Zoey was purchased from a known breeder and I paid $1200.00. |

He is 8.5 lbs and I find this a very unlikely combo for his looks, body style, and size. His brother was at the pound also, and was smaller than Mario, and a bit lighter in color, so Mario was not a fluke of the litter. I believe he is American Mini Schnauzer and Yorkie (maybe red-legged yorkie), so I believe the test was wrong. But that is me :) |
It's funny you guys said that as I was reading a post yesterday about Minnie? And her Dna test, and was equally as surprised as everyone else that Minnie turned out to be a full breed yorkie. I have considered asking my vet if they can do one, I'm not sure I trust these online companies and their results. I think my curiosity will get the better of me though, and I agree I think she looks like a chi! |
