A Big Decision I have posted 336 messages on YT even I don't have a yorkie yet. To be honest, I sometimes have felt left out since most of you have yorkies (which is the main topic of this site) and I don't. Most of my posts are about how much I want a yorkie and it might have sounded really boring to others. This started when I watched my friend's yorkie, Guinness for 10 days. I fell in love with the breed. I sounded like a little kid asking her parent for a puppy. Then my boyfriend met Guinness and spent time together. He realized how happy I could be with a dog and he also fell in love. It was really disappointing to hear "no" from my landlord when we asked for permission to have a dog. Then we didn't want to give up. We started thinking about how we could work with landlord to change her pet policy. Meantime I started contacting different breeders and even visited Stacy who is 7 hours away. I was very sad that I left without a pup. I also felt bad to Stacy that I wasn't ready. I don't know if she found home for him, but I felt really bad and sad. It has been tough. Then a couple days ago we just saw my landlord's son and also asked him. If he said ok, we were even thinking about driving to PA if the pup was still available. It turned out that he was the one who wants to be strict about no pet policy. Many people have told me to just get a pup and ask for forgiveness but I am glad in the sense that I didn't get a pup. I could have made my rental history bad. So it has been depressing to me. This was my first apartment after getting independent and out from college. I have been living here for long time and it was affordable. I have a great roommate here. In Boston, apartment rate is crazy that I cannot definitely afford my own place. I work for non-profit.... Then I wasn't sure if my roommate would move with me. Her company was bought, so there might be some lay-off. Since I don't have family here, it is hard to deal with move. My boyfriend is traveling for work. I was thinking if a yorkie was worth enough to change a big part of my life, a place to live. I have struggled to make a decision. I have been extremely sad for while. I have been waiting for the day to have a yorkie and it has been really rough. My boyfriend and I talked for long and many times, and I also talked to my roommate about my thoughts and plan. My boyfriend is going to help me to move. He is even thinking about buying a 2 family house so that we can rent out some rooms and he can pay for morgage. Then i can also rent a place and have a dog. We even went to see a few open house already. My roommate might come move with me if things don't go bad with her job. Buying a house is such a big committment and decision. We are not even citizen here. Condo is also expensive so that multi house might make more sense. I was very surprised with his idea. I don't know if it even happens, but what we know for sure is that we are going to move. Buy or Rent, who knows.. but we are MOVING! It would be easy to stay here, but we think that having a yorkie will make our life much brighter. I have a lease until end of August, but if we all of us move, we most likely can move out. I have lived here for many years... so it shouldn't be a problem. I just cannot believe.. we are gonna move. But for yorkies, that is what it takes... so we are gonna do it! We are definitely committed. I am just so grateful to have a super supportive boyfriend. I hope my dream really comes true and posts here as a yorkie owner, not wanna be yorkie owner. Meantime, I am gonna look for a place and post on YT as a wannabe yorkie owner but try not to bore you. This post might be boring.. but I just had to say it so I can come back here and one day I can tell you when I accomplished what I said here. :) |
Your choose is a good one. I hope you are able to find a place that you like. Hang in there your time to be owned by a yorkie will come. |
Michiko, I'm sure you're not boring people! Don't you think all of us in our pre-yorkie days wanted people to tell about it, and talk about it with? Thats what we're here for!! :p I'm so happy for you!! Let us know what happens! |
 don't you worry about it at all, sometimes we need to vent and let our feeling out and not keep them bottled up, i for one am very excited for you and i hope that everything works out how you want them to! and keep posting!!!! :D :aimeeyork |
Michiko you're such a pleasure having around YT, one day soon you will realize your dream until then you can vicariously live with all of ours. |
Sounds like you have a lot of decisions on your plate. I do hope that once you get settled in and are feeling secure in your decision that just the right Yorkie pup will find its way into your heart. You seem so eager. Sounds like it will still take some time because there are so many major changes that are to happen first. I wish you the best and much happiness! I already had a Yorkie of my own when I babysat for a Yorkie that belonged to my husband's boss for a week. I FELL IN LOVE WITH HER! I was so hurt when they took her back and had to hold back tears. I felt ridiculous but just couldn't help it :cry8: |
I'm so excited for you!!! I support your move 100%! It takes a lot to shake up your life and let go of the easy outs. Your taking a huge step! I hope that everything goes your way! Nothing worth having comes easy! and it sounds like your willing to work at it! Good for you! Your gonna make a great Yorkie Momma! |
Michico, you've made a wise decision, good luck in your adventure. MeganS, I received that picture you use as your Avatar in my email last week with a lot of other cute pictures, is that your pup ? If so, its circulating the internet world. Its cute anyways ! |
Michiko, Bless your loving heart. Don't you spend one sec worrying about me at all...I am never in a hurry to place pups, I like having the little buggers around and I was delighted to meet you for ANY reason. I can't imagine that anyone could think your posts are boring. I consider you part of the yorkie family, with or without a pup of your own. It's our love of this breed that brings us all together here and you certainly have plenty of that. Vivek seems to be a terrific guy and I'm sure you will work everything out for a bright and happy future. I can think of no one who is more deserving of a wonderful yorkie than you. You have my Best wishes for all good things. and Megan, what are you doing up at this hour? : ) you wicked, wicked girl...lol! hugs...I'm off to bed. |
Michiko you are not boring us at all. I really hope that everything works out for you. Good luck in your move. I know you will have your baby yorkie soon. And you will be a great mommy too. |

You are not alone! I'm working day and night to raise money for a downpayment on my own place...so I can have a Yorkie! I even carry a picture of a Yorkshire Terrier pup in my writing pad at work...when people see it...they say..Oh! She's adorable...is that your puppy?" And I'm like...umm...well..no....and start babbling on how I downloaded it...and I want one...blah..blah...blah...and then I stop talking because I'm getting "The Look" (the "Oh..what a sad person...she probably props stuffed animals up at the dinnner table...and talks to them) Hang in there...we're gonna have our Pup! Francie |
I know EXACTLY how you feel. My boyfriend and I moved out together, got ourselfs this really nice apartment in a gated community, but they didn't allow dogs. My boyfriend would work anywhere from 12-15 hour days and I hate being by myself. For as long as I could remember I have always wanted a dog. I started out looking for teacup poodles. I almost bought one from a petstore. Then I found my lucky add in the paper. I got the money within a week and against the rules of our place, I bought her. The maintance people walked in un-announced one day and saw her dishes and toys. They left a notice saying we must get rid of her immediatly. Long story short, we broke our lease. She is much more important to me then some stupid apartment complex! :thumbdown On those who don't allow dogs |
awww...YOu will not regret getting a yorkie!! I wanted one sooooo bad but I couldn't afford one but then my bf and a few friends went and got one for me...my baby boy ZOE who is now 3 months old. I love him so much and would move if I have to to keep him. I am licky to be living in a house but I would make the same choice. Good Luck and tell us how it goes! |
We had a pup sent to us in Grand Cayman, but he did not clear Agriculture Dept. due to their strictest policies. It was flown the next morning back to The States. We had to wait for half a year to move back to US to get a yorkie. Imagine seeing the little one and then not getting it. It sucked. And now imagine the wait and constant talks about it. We went through a similar experience and appreciate our new addition so much more. Please hang in there and things will eventually fall into place. You will have a great companion! |
You sure dont bore me I always enjoy your posts. I remember when I was waiting for a yorkie. I waited 2 years to get one. then one day My huband said I could look for one and I was so happy. I found a breeder locally that was in our price range and we got one. She then later had Jewels and we got her too. I was so happy and you will be too. I really researched the breed while I was waiting. I wish I would have found yorkietalk while I was waiting and I would have became a member also. |
I wish I would have found YT first too. It would have been very helpful and still is :) |
One step at a time. Michiko, I'm very happy for you, not just because you are on your way to getting a Yorkie, but to hear your boyfriend love's you so much he is willing to do what is needed to make your home a fully happy home for you. He's a keeper LOL! I look forward to reading more of your progress in finding a new home, THEN finding the Yorkie  or who knows could be Yorkies..lol Its hard to just have one. |
Michiko: I wish you the best of luck in finding a new house so you can fulfill your dreams of getting a Yorkie. We have lots of people here that can steer you in the right direction and what to look for and not look for! I've only been on YT for a couple months and have learned so much. We have 2 Yorkies (10-1/2 yo and puppy 14 weeks). They are a treasure and so loveable. It sounds like you have a super greatttttt guy. Hang onto him, girl! Best of luck to you. |
Michiko!! Hang in there ... before you know it, you will be scratching your head and wondering .... "what the heck have I gotten myself into?!?". ;) Seriously, you will get that baby and the ideal place to raise him/her. We waited and studied/learned before we finally got our Toto! Another thing ... congratulations on the "sweet man" .... he's a keeper!! ;) |
Your post are not boring. Many of us have been in your position. When I first moved out of my parents house many many years ago i had to leave my first Yorkie at home, he was too attached to my dad and I couldn't have pets in the building. I had always grown up with animals and hated not having one. So the next year my husband and I moved about 45 minutes from my job, because at 25 I finally got my drivers license and bought a car and moved to an apartment that allowed pets. The week after w moved I got Zorro my first yorkie on my own. He was an absolute doll. When he died at 13 I waited 3 days before calling a breeder to go look at her puppies evev though I didn't have 600 cash and wouldn't have it for a few months. Well my sister a complete animal nut went with me to look at the 4 pups and I fell in love with a little girl, my sister wips out 600.00 cash to loan me so i could get her. She said I knew you would fall in love with one. So I brough Gracie home that day. She was the love of my life but unfortuanatly died young at 6 1/2 with complications of a collapsed trachea. Well mu husband an ddtr wanted a pom and I was still grieving for Gracie and they got Maya. Maya has alwsy been a standoffisd type and not a cuddler at all. I so missed having a yorkie but was to scared of having 2 dogs. When I lost my job after 33 years there my whole life changed, i no longer feared things like I did before, I figured if I could handle that I could handle another puppy and what better time I would be home all day with her. So I looked into getting another one but only half seriously since I was a liitle concerned how Maya woudl be with a puppy, well in July I had this strong feeling I had to get a Yorkie so I looked around and after many weeks of searching I found Cali! If I could afford it I would get another !!! My point is that you will get your baby when the time is right and you will know when that is. Good luck |

I hope you find your house soon, and hang on to that special guy. He is definitely a keeper. |
Your not boring me!! I think it's really great that you are so commited to having a yorkie. I know that you are going to absolutely in love with it, and glad that you have made this decision!! Congratulations on your good decision, and you truely do have a wonderful boyfriend. I hope you will keep us updated on your jorney into yorkie ownership!!!! |
Michiko, this site is also to learn about Yorkies. Yes most members have one, but there are many still looking. The best thing is you are going to be ready when you find one. You might be a Yorkie wanta be owner, but if you ask me, Yorkies have already stole your heart. So it's just a matter of time my friend. Everyone here is here because we love Yorkies, that includes you! When you find the right one, we will all be here with you to join in on your fun! :) :) :) Good Luck to you always, and may all your Yorkie dreams come true! |
ur making a great decision, and i wish you the best of luck<3<3 boston is so freakin expensive its ridiculous. once you get your baby we are having a playdate, so keep me and Sirius in mind :] |
Wishing you luck , and hope you get your baby soon. I had a yorkie when I was 16 ,but when he died I could not get another due to work etc . I finally persuaded my husband to get me one 20 months ago and I got Alfie then 9 weeks ago Igot another one Lottie so watch out they are addictive. It took me 14 years to persuade my husband though at least my I bought my mum a yorkie because she misssed my max so much! so at least I was not yorkieless ,we got her Pebbles who is a giant of a yorkie and so loving and good natured ,she is auntie to my little ones who adore her, she is now 14 years old but loves to chase them around and they all have a great time toghether . So your yorkie days will come , just when the time is right. |
Hey, a Yorkie does not fit into everyone's life. I was 42 years old before I finally felt settled down enough to have a dog!! That might be extreme, but there is a lot of responsibility in owning a dog. Money is part of it, but I think one of the most important things is having TIME for the dog. That's what I lacked for so long. So get a Yorkie when you are ready, and not before. Both you and your pet will be happier for it. |
Oh, WOW!!! Girl, we're here for you. Everything will work out. Don't you worry one bit. We could never get tired of you...you're too sweet to become tiresome! ;) :D |
Don't feel bad I don't have one right now either. I lost my baby in August and just haven't had the heart to replace him yet. Came close as Mason's mommy knows, but just couldn't take the step. But I like being on here. I've learned a lot and learn more every day and it's helped me grieve. It's great to know that there is someone to talk to or help if you need it. Thanks guys. |
