New to the yorkie world Hello everyone, I was gifted a puppy in late sept. She was 6wks old, I know she was to young to be separated from her mom. Poor thing didn't even have her lil bitty teeth yet, I immediately took her to the vet, we waited until she was 8wks old to start her rounds of vaccines, today she will be getting her last set, she has grown in her sharp teeth, she has gain 2.6lbs since and is very playful, loving. I'm currently feeding her pedigree soft food, and just started hard solid food which she eats with no problem, my question is grooming, how to care for her coat? What shampoo should I be using? Should I be giving her vitamins to help grow out her hair? I've never owned a dog before. This is a first for my family:aimeeyork please I can use some advise :) |
use coconut oil in her food and that will help with her hair from the inside out. Coconut oil is wonderful. Use a shampoo and conditioner for dogs as they have a different PH level than we do. be gentle on her period, but especially around her throat. They have delicate throats. wash her and blow dry her regularly so she gets used to it and doesn't fight the whole process if taken to a groomer. and keep her eyes clean. if you grow the hair out long you can put it all up in a top knot and it will stay out of her eyes. otherwise you can cut them every month or so but they will always grow out and get spikey and again that way. personal preference. As for shampoos and conditioners, I personally like burts bees brands and for conditioner I love the KONG brand . It's excellent and leaves the hair so soft and airy, plus the scent stays with them for a lot longer than others, keeping them smelling so good . plus it comes in a huge bottle and you can dilute it a really good amount and it still works awesome. |
