Many of you have seen my photos of my little boy Jaxon. I haven't posted much lately, as my heart has been broken by the sudden passing of my lil guy.
He never had any known health issues, but 4 days before his first birthday, at about 2am, he woke us up with a loud pain yelp. Kind of like you would expect if he'd been hit by a car or something!
I rushed to his play yard. He took 3 or 4 steps toward me and then fell on his face with his lil butt sticking straight up in the air. Brownish red liquid poured out of his mouth. I scooped him up and drove to a nearby ER vet. He was in terrible pain, they took him right to the back. When they came out, they said he needed something for nausea and pain, so they gave him a shot and an iv for a few minutes. Long story short, we took him home, and got up early to take him to his regular vet. He died in my arms on the way out the door... I totally lost it, and am about to again just telling you about it. I loved that little guy. The vet (without an autopsy) thinks by all that happened, that his gallbladder may have erupted. (p.s.)The ER vet did not diagnose the problem, They gave me an estimate of nearly $2000.00 to try and stabilize him for 5 hours til my vet opened! All I had available to me at that time of the morning was $500.00 cash, and they would not treat him for that amount. I was, and still am outraged by this ER vet and their $300.00 for an x-ray, and nearly $100.00 just to have them do an initial exam. They took all my money, but that just got him out of pain. This was the most crushing experience of my life.

OMG..........my heart breaks for you. I can not even imagine the horrific panic and fear and pain that you had during this time.....nothing I can even conjur up to say or speculate about this heartbreaking event, could even begin to soothe your soul or mend your ruptured heart. I am so very sorry over the loss of your baby boy....I pray that you are healing, and that one day, you will be able to bring another baby into your life.....find you a reputable breeder that stands behind her babies....your chances of finding a healthy baby are much improved if you are dealing with a reputable breeder, and if there is an issue, your breeder will be right there with you......

Sorry for your loss yorkiedaddy! hopefully you'll be able to find out a little more about the exact cause of death for peace of mind. Stay strong!

I am so sad reading your post about jaxon. We cannot understand why his sweet life was taken so soon. You did everything right keeping him comfy. I believe all things happen for a reason. Take comfort knowing you yorkie is happy in heaven waiting to see you,

I am so very, very sorry for the loss of your precious baby boy, gone too soon. ER are more expensive, horrific that they would refuse to treat a dieing baby for your lack of funds at that time. You should have an autopsy performed and contact your breeder, perhaps there is something the breeder can do since your baby passed before his one year birthday. Breeders from what I have seen usually guarantee their pups for one year, but you need autopsy and Dr. report of cause of death. Jaxon was a beautiful little boy. In time hopefully you can open your heart to a new baby to fill that empty space in your heart. (((hugs))))

I am so very, very sorry for your tragic and sudden loss of this wee precious boy! He was a doll, and clearly a love of your life. I can't imagine what you went through and are still going through. I'm just so sorry :(.

What about Care Credit - that ER vet would've had that option...?

I had $600.00 available on my care credit card, but there was no one in the office to grant me an increase at that time. I was denied by the "press one for an increase" button... The ER vet "Affiliated Veterinary Emergency Service" in MI, asked me "Isn't there someone you can call for money?!" At 2 am, Really! I am retired. My option would have been cashing in on some of my 401k money, but not at 2 oclock in the morning! They made me sign a waiver saying I refused treatment for him due to lack of funding!! I absolutely begged them to help him, Refusing treatment??

OMG that is just horrible! I understand they are in business to make money, I get that. But at 2am and a tiny baby so sick, with a family that obviously would have came up with the money when banking hours open is just a hit in the gut! Sometimes policies and rules need to be thrown out the window and do what's necessary to save a life. My gosh I just can't imagine, along with the devasting loss I would be livid! I again am so very sorry, it is heartbreaking! :(

So sorry for your loss YorkieDaddy reading this made me devastated the nerve of that ER. I can't believe it. Hopefully you and your breeder had the 1 year guarantee of health agreement.

My heart is broken for you! I'm so very sorry for your loss of your precious little one! I hope one day you can find comfort knowing you were the best daddy and remember the happy times you shared! Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers so very very sorry

When our precious little ones are in pain and we can't help them it is devastating. I'm so very sorry for you and little Jaxon.

Such a terrible ordeal for you to have to go through. So sad that everything comes down to how much money you can pay up front. There really is no compassion at some of these vet ER's. They charge rediculous prices and prey off of our emotions. I'm so sorry for your little one and for you. How awful to experience such a lack of humanity.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your beautiful boy.

I totally understand why you would feel this way, I really do.

But honestly, I truly think/believe that ERs would help any/every animal if they were a charity and had the means to do so. I don't think it has anything to do w/ actual compassion - but has to do with the fact that they're a business with real expenses, and no recourse (no gov't subsidies like human hospitals have) for people who wouldn't pay in the end.

When I've had to go to pet ERs, I've not found their prices to be terribly inflated. The prices are more in some areas (ie, office calls etc), but I would expect them to be bc they are also paying more for their personnel to be there at all hours for our pets. We can't expect them to not expect payment from us...I don't know any business that could run like that unless subsidized by our gov't.

Again, it's tragic this happened and I so wish this precious one could have been treated by the ER and was still alive today.

For the rest of us, it's a very sad lesson that we should all be over-prepared for emergencies. They truly do happen. :(

This made me cry. Jaxon was so precious and you took great care of him. We don\'t know why some lives are taken so soon. I know he is in heaven right with my fur friends who are there. Only comfort I get is to know that they were created by God who is love and He owns all. He has a day for each to come home to Him and we have to hand them back. Nothing really belongs to us. Not our family or pets. This place called heaven is glorious can\'t imagine it\'s beauty. Jaxon is there. You will find comfort and peace . You will see him happy and healthy. Prayers for you.
