I let DH name him. I kind of think Dinky is a silly name, but DH turned out to be one of those guys totally into having a little dog and once he came up with Dinky, there was no turning back. |
1980 My first yorkie. I had a cousin that for some reason would not pronounce the would KILLER correctly, she pronounced it as Kia. When I bought my puppy I went directly to friends and family to show off my little baby, when they asked me what her name was I said she has no name yet, I wasn’t planning on buying a puppy. When I got to my cousins house to show her my lil baby, she laughed at this teeny tiny baby and she she looks like a littler Kia (KILLER) and that’s how my first yorkie got her name. She passed away in 1994, 6 months after her death the Kia car was being sold, I wanted to sue the Company for stealing the name of my dog, then I found out it was a Korean made car, used in Korean and recently came to the USA. Well my dogs name Kia was unique for the 14.5 that she was alive. Yorkie # 2….I was reading a book, the story took place in New Orleans…Again another unplanned yorkie puppy, I bought her in the evening, the next evening I took her to my vet for the 48 hour store check up policy, the vet asked what her name was, I told him she didn’t have one, but I was reading this book and I like the ring of the Cajun food but was not going to name a dog after a type of food, so he said change the spelling to Kajon (pronounced as Kay John)…so Kajon it was. Yorkie # 3…..again unplanned, At this time singer Sinéad O’Conner was popular I was not into her type of singing but she was bald headed, my new puppy was very furry and I thought it would be funny to give my hairy puppy her name. The day I got her I went to my friend that had 3 yorkies to show them lookie what I just got, they asked what I named her I said SCHNAE after the singer, they said her name is Sinead O’Conner NOT Schnae, I said GOOD because I don’t like giving my dogs ppl’s name, so that’s how Schnae got her name. Yorkie #4… 1997…was nameless for 3 months, she answered to the name of noooooo. I was watching TV, they were talking about Phyllis Diller and her painting, compared it to the artist Matisse a “one of a kind” artist, well my new baby was “one of a kind” she was able to slide my bed room closet door open and chew my slippers, I had to buy 6 pairs slippers the first 7 weeks I had her until I found out how she was getting into the closet. She was “one of a kind” in all the years of owning dogs this was the only puppy that got into so much mischief I changed the spelling and that is how Matese got her name. (Matese remained a "one of a kind" mischievous little girl up to 7 weeks before she left me at age 17 y/o) Yorkie #5…another unplanned dog, 6 weeks after Matese left me to join her sister at Rainbow bridge, my vet called me, they had just gotten in a rescue, she begged me to come to “just see the dog” long story short, I went, I saw and he was coming home with me, his name was Theodore, wayyyy to long of a name for me, when I had just Schnae & Matese when they were being naughty I would call out, “knock it off “Masha” (using part of both their names by accident in my excitement to get them calmed down lol) I knew I would never get the name of T-H-E-O-D-O-R-E out of my mouth. I wanted his name changed before I left the vets office, I wasn’t planning on another dog, he was prancing around the room like a little western stallion, The name Cody popped into my head, although I don’t like giving ppl names to my dogs, I had to come up with something fast, he looked like a little Cody, and that is how Cody got his name. |
Had no name for my puppy as I was driving home after picking him up. I was buying so many things for him I never did for my larger dogs and I was spending a lot on him. I love cars and was thinking of an expensive car...Mercedes came up but it is a girl's name and going through names Bentley came to mind and that was it! A plus is it is an English made car! He is my sweetheart. :) |
Cookie got the name because she's brown and black and sweet. I also call her Nyan Nyan after Nyan Cat, and because I'd tell her "nyan nyan nyan nyan" back when she'd argue with me as a puppy. She's also Princess Beenchy because she's little (not for a yorkie at 8 lbs, but overall) and since I always thought it was funny how as a very little kid my brother used to say itchy-b*tchy instead of itsy-bitsy for something small (and beenchy sounds better than b*tchy lol). I also call her Turd Bird when she's being a little naughty outside and runs away from me after catching a bird or a lizard. I also call her Monkey since she's flying off the walls sometimes; some days are zoomie days lol. I guess her full name is Cookie Monster because she is so full of energy. She responds to all of the names; well, when she feels like responding! |

Bentley was on the list for both of my male yorkies. However it just did not fit for Teek. He was not a Bentley. The new puppy, well no one else in the family liked the name and everyone seemed to like Rowan, so Rowan it was. I still love the name Bentley. I told my family that if I don't name a dog Bentley then I will never own a Bentley because I certainly can't get the car. LOL |

I laugh every time I remember that you and Mrs. Facebook have the same name. Priscilla is a beautiful name, but when we meet in person, I think I will call you Captain or something else. :D;) |

How Cali Sage got her name My favorite classic rock artist is Bruce Springsteen. When my mom found a stray black kitten outside her old house on September 23, 2005 (Springsteen's birthday) I immediately took to the kitten and wanted it. We couldn't tell if it was a boy or a girl...so I named it "Jersey" because Bruce Springsteen is from Jersey. Three years ago, my mother got a yorkie. I never thought much about yorkies either way until I met my mom's dog. Her dog is named "Bella Rose." I fell in love with Bella and wanted a dog just like her. I ordered my puppy from the same breeder two years ago, and finally got her on July 16. My current favorite artists/celebrity crushes are Adam Levine of Maroon 5 and Robin Thicke. They are both from Los Angeles, California...so I chose "Cali" after the state...to go with "Jersey." "Sage" was chosen to go with "Rose"...Sagebrush is the state flower of my home and favorite state. I put those together as "Cali Sage." I call her "Cali" or "Cali Sage." |

Hi, I named Monty after a terrier in a British movie called "The Hidden Room" ("Obsession" in the US) based on "A Man About a Dog" by Alec Coppel. It has a rather dark but interesting plot with the little dog essentially saving the day. Linda |

3 names Okay so I had originally named her Misty but my mom hated that name and said it was a stripper name lol. So we then changed it to Fiona. Then a few days later she said that wouldn't work because it was her nickname and was weird Now her name is Bella. I love Bella more then the other two she looks like a Bella :) Hopefully this name sticks. We went though these three in a span of a week so hopefully you have better luck than me hahahahah. I should have named her pie because she has a pie symbol on her chest. haha |
Bayleigh - She was surrendered to the shelter as Angel. My cat's name is Angel and I was taking her home as a foster and needed to changer her name ASAP for her paperwork. Gremlin was the first name that came to my mind because that's what she looked like. I love the name. My family hates it. I was pressured to change it and I just couldn't decide on a name. I spent forever on a name website and came across Bailey. I liked it but changed the spelling to make it more girly. Penny - Again, we couldn't decide or agree on a name. She had several names before we could agree on Penny. We were watching The Big Bang Theory and we just looked at each other and was like "PENNY!" Knock, Knock, Knock Penny! Gremlin - See first paragraph. ;) Obviously, I still love the name four years later. Gremlin really lives up to her name. |

Yes, I have a stripper name but not a stripper body! |
We had just lost our sweet little Bree full name ( Sweet Island Breeze.). We shortened her name to Bree. I was having a very hard time getting through loosing our tiny little girl. After a few weeks we decided to get another puppy it turned out we would be getting a little male. This little boy was such gentle loving baby no ruff housing just sweet. He had the softest expression with beautiful eyes that just said he loved us. Actually he was sophisticated for a young puppy. If yorkies can be that way this little fellow is every bit. So he became (Posh Tosh).I never regreted giving him this name anything else would never have fit him. Then came Tova she had a very strong will and very determined. She can give a look that might be saying I don't think I want to do that not right now anyway. But just as sweet as Tosh. She was obviously going to be larger than our Bree. I thought Tova needed a name to go with Tosh. Then there's Tassel tiny little manipulator with a very big bark or will turn on a pity party to get her way. Just a tad over 3pds and no one challenges her. She has had a very nice coat from the time she came home to us. When combed out with her topknot and her little tail held high the hair just hangs like little tassels. So that how she got her name which suits her too. |
My little girl was named by her breeder, and since she was three years old and being uprooted from her home, we didn't want to change her name too. Katie's official name is Yabba Dabba Doo, but her call name is Kate. Every time her breeder spoke to me about my little girl prior to her joining our family, she lovingly called her Kate, and that is the name used on her webpage, along with Yabba Dabba Doo. Three months later, when she finally joined our family, I found out that our Latvian breeder had been calling her Katja, so I'm not sure if it would have made much difference if we changed her name to something else. We mostly call her Katie, sometimes Kate, and less occasionally Katja. The names are all special because of how dearly we love our little girl. |

We changed Teddy's name from Tank and I believe that having the same T sound was helpful. He loved his new name instantly and answered to Tank like a nickname. I laugh thinking about how many nicknames these little ones learn, respond to, and become possessive of. My boys do not like to share nicknames. |

Rin will be 7 on the 28th of this month. We though Rin would go with our daughter as well and we were sad at the thought. HOwever, Rin loves everyone but is especially attached to my DH. My daughter decided Rin picked Daddy, so she gets to stay with Daddy:D Tyson also has the same Dam and Sire, although he is from a later litter. |

These are all great stories! I'm a thinker so I just rolled with it...I never had girls so the first names is what I liked in a girls name....Zoey and Izzy Zoey Zendaya Ezmirelda Marie ...just had to go with a teeny ... And my second had to roll off the tongue the same way syllable wise... Izzy Olivia Penelope Renee' Lol..I love telling people when they ask " what's their name?!" And they bout die... |

I feel silly now with my dogs being named Gatlin, Teek, Raksha and Rowan. I can fit all 4 of my dogs names into one of your dogs names! They are cool. I love Ezmirelda and Renee (Renee is my middle name). |
My granddaughter named my puppy, Zoey, after her favorite Little Pet Shop (cartoon) puppy. Let a 3 yr old name a puppy and it's bound to be a cartoon name. Lol |
I like regular people names for dogs, perhaps because I treat mine like a child (don't we all!) I recall a movie from years back where a guy with a dog named Willie Nelson met a girl with a dog named Dolly Parton and of course they fell in love. (I think that was the plot, if not it was my takeaway!) Anyway, I really liked how they named their much loved pets after their fave musicians and filed that away for future use. So when it was time to add our yorkie to the family, only one name would do. True story- after I'd had Joni for a few days and she was settling in, I turned on the CD player to let her listen to her namesake - and she promptly threw up. (I think I had the volume too loud and it startled her). Husband got a good laugh out of that - I suspect he had felt the same for a long time. |
