Your opinions would be greatly appreciated! 1 Attachment(s) Ok. This is Lambeau. I don't want to ask the question of "is he a real yorkie?" Although at times..I've questioned it. But I'm even more so wondering, considering he is a Yorkie, is this dramatic of a change normal? The bottom pic is of him the day we got him at around 9 weeks. The top pic is recently approximately 4 months or so. Granted. .he's a little scraggly. He needed brushing and he's never been groomed. I'm trying to let his hair grow before his first groom. Which seems slow go. He's changed drastically! I'm not saying it's a bad change. .he's adorable. |
Aww.. He is adorable . Yes , he looks all Yorkie to me . I think his coat looks perfectly normal .. |
lol all kids change dramatically as they get older...completely normal!:animal36:animal-pa:aimeeyork;) |
He looks 100% yorkie to me, very cute. |
Thanks for replying everyone. I have only doubted him being 100% because of his hair growth. But maybe I'm totally off on how it's supposed to be from month to month lol. I have another yorkie that's 6. She was a rescue and we got her at age 4. So all of her color/coat changes were in place. She's the ideal tan/blue. |
urgh dble post !:animal36:animal-pa:aimeeyork;) |
100% yorkie and a cutie at that, you will see even more hair color changes in him. |
Thanks for replying everyone. I've only doubted his authenticity because of his coat/color. His coat seems to be very slow growing. Which I know can be normal. |

Cute as can be!!! |
What a cutie! Looks 100% to me! |
He looks all yorkie to me too. He is a cutie; love his ears. I always thought yorkies were all tan and black also but have since found out they can come in many different color combinations and that they will change until they are between 2 and 3. Good luck with your furbabies. |
Yorkie puppies are black and tan as pups like dobermans. They change until about 3 years old, when their whole face should turn gold, as will their legs and their saddle will change to steel blue. Well that is what is desired. Mine are totally overly light, and Toto is almost completely platinum. But there are some that are adults that stay dark. Many people like that look too bc they say they always look like a puppy but I disagree bc their face is usually all gold, a telltale sign of a mature yorkie. |
He is furtastic! My Bubba changed from day to day. First dark, then his head turned white, then gold. He is 10 now and when his hair is slightly longer he looks grayish with dark roots. After a close hair cut he looks black. Sissy, on the other hand has not changed much, she has stayed dark. I have seen others at the dog park that look completely gray. |
In my honest opinion he is mixed. I not sure if its due to the mix or Yorkie males having a harder time growing long locks but the hair I doubt will grow any longer then that unless you grow it out for a very very long time. |
Winnies Hair was like that at 4 months. I haven't cut any of her hair except her ears. She has the big ears too! He looks like a yorkie that's proud of getting his hair all mussed up....just like my Winnie. Lol |

Our Laddy is all yorkie and his coat never grows past the floor. I say all yorkie and adorable too. |
I've wondered if he's mixed with something too. But I've looked at tons and tons of yorkie pics and he looks like them. So I guess we'll never know. But I didn't know they could be considered mixed on coat length alone. He's almost 5 months. I figured his hair just hasn't grown in all the way. I may be wrong. |
The coat length has nothing to do w if a yorkie is mixed or not. That is false. Also at only five months he couldn't have a very long coat anyway. The full coat takes years to come in. |

I have never heard anything about a males hair being harder to grow than a female, I don't think that could be true. He looks pure yorkie to me and adorable!!!!!!! At 5 months he is still just a baby and his hair looks normal to me for his age. And there are all kinds of yorkie coats, just because they aren't perfect by show standards doesn't mean they aren't pure yorkie. I love your little guy he is beautiful!! It almost sounds like the other poster is jealous that you have such a little cutie! |
Lol well thank you. Her answer did conflict with almost everything I read online as well. He totally still has his puppy fur. Which would make sense that if it hasn't fully grown in yet (which it hasn't ) that it won't be long. Plus he's only 5 months old. Surely that has alot to do with it too. |
