| ![]() I have a 1 year old yorkie who is mostly puppy pad trained but I want to fully house break her. I take her outside but she usually views it as "fun" and not a time to potty. She poops occasionally and pees every five minutes (territory marking?) but it isn't consistent. Is it too Kate to fully housebreak her ? She doesn't like to go out when it's cold, she'll kind of just walk outside and look at me as if she is ready to go back inside. Any tips ? Puppy pads are getting smelly and expensive. I also want to purchase a male yorkie but I don't wasn't to deal with two yorkies using the pads, iv also head that yorkies should either be bought together or when one the significantly older than the other, is that true ? Any suggestion would help. Thanks |

| ![]() I have the same problem. I decided to just puppy pad train her bc as soon as I take her outside she runs straight back inside. She's to stubborn and refuses to be in the grass. Lol |

| ![]() My first Yorkie taught the next 3..... But you have to decide.... Potty pad or outside?? Your confusing her! My guys love the word "outside", because it's almost a treat. They are all trained to use potty pads, but also love to go I to our backyard and mark their spots. But in potty training you must have a priority... Inside or out?? They are very smart dogs, but you can be very confusing if your trying to make them do both

| ![]() First to answer your question about when to get another pup. I can only speak from my own personal experience. I had my first yorkie for 3 years, I had no plans of getting another dog, but, I was dragged to view some puppies by my cousin, she ended up not getting one but I ended up buying one, so now I had a 3 y/o and a puppy, both females. It took my older girl 6 weeks to a couple of months to bond with the new kid, reason....the puppy would jump in the face of the older one and nip, so the older one stayed on high grounds, the sofa lol, as soon as the puppy was able to jump on the sofa, the older one had no choice but to play and bond with the new kid. Both were sweet girls. 3 years later, again my cousin was wanting a puppy as she groomed mine and was in love with the breed, so again off we go to find her a puppy, again she looks, holds then changes her mind, again I come home with a new baby, I now have a 6y/o and a 3 y/o and a new baby. Now I have 2 girls on the sofa, scared of baby jaws, again as soon as the baby can jump on the sofa the 2 older ones had no choice but to accept her. My older ones were never aggressive with the new kid, I guess I was just lucky, they were all sweet girls. So my own personal experience is, have a dog a couple of years old then getting a puppy worked well for me, another thing was, when I lost my older girl at 13 y/o I still had a 10 y/o and a 7 y/o, not that the pain of losing my older girl was lessened, but I had to stay strong for the remaining two, they missed their older sister very much, I had to help them cope with their loss. I wouldn't want to have 2 dogs a few months apart and loose both months apart. Indoor pad training, when they were puppies I trained them on pads, at 5 months old they were 100% pad trained with NO accidents, then I started working on house breaking them. You MUST have a feeding and walking schedule. I fed them at 7:30AM, then walked them at 8AM, even if they used the pads before 8AM , they were walked anyway, I worked and would be home at 4PM, they were walked at that time, fed at 5PM walked at 5:30PM, at 10PM I took them curb side for their last pee of the night. By 7 months old my pups were 100% house broken, no pads were ever left down after they were house broken. Again, maybe I was just lucky, but this is what worked for me, my own personal experience. Also having an older pup then house breaking a new baby, I believe the baby seeing the older one potting outside, she got it. Let me add, when I was house breaking a puppy for several weeks they thought walk time was play time, jumping on the older dog / dogs or barking at other dogs, they never pied or pooped outside, they would come home and use the pee pads, but after a couple of weeks with stick schedules, and seeing their sisters getting praised when the older ones did their business, the babies always got it. I never found first pad training the house breaking caused my pups any confusion, again, maybe I was just lucky. So that is my experience with getting babies when mine were older, and my house breaking experience with house breaking.....Good luck

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() If you now want to outside train her, you pretty much have to start over. One tip is to keep the soiled pads and place them outside as this may help her go.
