Your mom won't keep the dog while you are at college? You will be home for breaks and stuff won't you?. How far away will you probably be? I think community college to get basics in is a great idea for my daughter to save on costs and then transfer to a regular college. It will save a lot of money that way. Before we got her puppy it was agreed that if she is away at college I will keep her dog for her, as I love the Yorkies anyway. She knows that her baby will be taken care of well while she is away. She is planning to go to school 2 hours away, so she can come home on some weekends and see her baby and also on breaks. I hope everything works out with him for you. |
I think she will but most likely he will go to my grandma I only plan on staying in my state |
That will be good if your grandma can keep him for you. I know I would miss my little ones really badly. Probably one of the reasons I didn't go away to college myself and chose to live at home and go to a community college. I didn't want to leave my boyfriend (he is my husband now) and his kids and also didn't want to be away from my fox terrier we had either. The dog had slept in my bed since I was 12 years old. I just couldn't stand the thought of being away from all of them. My daughter is going to have trouble leaving her puppy I think, but she will be well loved being here with us. The puppy will have her brother to play with. I think it will be hardest when she moves the puppy out of the house, but we will separate them many times over the years as we go travel and she keeps her puppy with her, so we will see how the dogs do in the long run. We have other plans we can go to if absolutely necessary to keep the two of them together, like sharing them, or one of us keeping the other's puppy and then getting another puppy. We have options that we will deal with only if necessary. |
Aw that's good how you are with her! My mother doesn't really like animals so it's hard on me and constantly at risk of losing him but I did for a few months my grandma took care of him and I know if it comes to it she'll take him again if he gets kicked out by mom or if I go to college...she's always taken care of my pets even though she's not loving towards them she's more rough when it comes to playing with them but she takes good care of them |
Maybe you take after your grandma in your love of animals? We have 4 dogs, 1 cat, 4 snakes, 1 lizard and 2 fish tanks here right now. We have had hamsters, guinea pigs, a different lizard, etc in the past. LOL I love animals. Most of the dogs are mine. Everyone in the house has a snake, except me (they bought me one for my birthday several years ago, but it died right after we got it). My 14 year old son has 2 snakes. My daughter owns 1 puppy, 1 cat, 1 snake, 1 lizard of the animals in the house. My husband has the fish tanks and the big dog is technically his and our puppy is both of ours according to him. Teek (my 9 year old Yorkie is mine), although really all 3 of the boy dogs are really mine. LOL They adore me. I am sure something will work out. Maybe your Yorkie will win over your mom :) Teach him to behave and teach him tricks too. Work with him about 5-10 minutes a day (twice if you have time) and teach him sit, stay, down. Then branch out to things like come (I use the command Touch), and place (go to their bed), Crate (if you use one), then teach tricks, like up (stand up), Sit pretty (beg), crawl, roll over, anything you can think of. The more trained he is like that the better dog he will be, I promise. If you train him well, maybe your mom will decide he is a good dog and decide to keep him for you, or at least your grandma will appreciate a better trained pet while she has him. The best way to teach a Yorkie is to praise good behavior and train them well. I will tell the puppies no, and take away things they should not have, but that is the extent of anything negative I do with mine. |
Yea I get my love for animals from my dads side of the family his mom had a cocker spaniel and some mix breed my entire life (the mix was a year older than me and she passed a few years back) then when my grandma passed I found out so did the cocker spaniel but I always enjoyed going over there and talking about pets...my aunt on that side has 4 dogs which makes my mom disgusted but the few times I met them they're all sweet and well behaved! My moms side of the family usually just gets the occasional big dog so that's why my grandma doesn't really great him like a baby |

Zeus goes to bed with me when I go -- whatever time. My husband and 14 year old toss and turn too much, so he doesn't overly like sleeping with them unless I'm unavailable. He does to be bed with me, digs at the covers (I know that means to pull them up) and he goes under the covers next to me and falls asleep. I never knew I could love a puppy as much as I love him! |
