She is so adorable!!! I'm so happy that you are trying to add her to your family. Maybe you could take her on very short rides, like around the block, or just to the end of your driveway and back, and then praise her like crazy for no crying. Maybe even a treat. I wish you the best of luck. You are already getting attached to her. I hope hubby will grow to love her too. |
She is adorable, if you do decide to relinquish her, be sure she is spayed. She is so cute, she will be snatched up in a heartbeat. As for car rides, my little one hates it too which sucks because I have some long distance trips coming up this summer which I will be driving. I also want to try and figure it out because I also want her to be able to travel overseas with me. I've tried a booster seat it it helps a lot. Have you tried keeping her occupied with treats? Only give her a favorite treats when she goes for a ride so that she associates car rides with good things unless its physical like with my Duchess who gets car sick. If she is just fearful and does not get car sick, then finding something that she could associate car rides with something good might help. |
Oh what a beautiful little creature! All it took was one look from a little face like that and I promised to move mountains for my sweet little girl! |
Aww I'm sorry you're dealing with this. My Jackson is a fine traveler in the car (he will sometimes take 5-10 mins to 'calm down' and pants sometimes, but then chills out) but he panicked in the RV trip from MD to FL this year. It was a horrible horrible drive. He paced, panted, wouldn't settle, pretty much the entire trip. He was fine in the RV when it wasn't moving. I think because it was louder because it was usually the bumps that got him. I made sure everything in the cabinets was placed properly, etc, as to make less noises while traveling and bouncing around. I tried going in the back room with him, closing the door and windows and laying on the bed with him. Didn't work for long. Leashed him up and sat on the couch with him. Didn't do much. Sitting in the front seat in his booster seat. Nope. So I gave in and called the vet and they called in a prescriotion of alprazolam (xanax). Also ordered Rescue Remedy, both of which did nothing. When I got back my vet spoke to me about a better medication that she's seen MUCH more success in called trazadone. So we'll be getting that next time we go somewhere long distance. lol |
Booster seat and ginger cookies for the nasusea, and driving slow with the windows open and taking corners slow is what got Toby to stop throwing up and whining. And treats. And the fact that car rides led to grassy areas and freeding. He's a champ now. Professional even. |

I wouldn't hesitate to try meds if it means a better trip for all involved. Meds can really do wonders! Trazadone may knock him out a bit...but really, who cares...as long as it makes it bearable for him. I tried Traz for severe insomnia, and unforch it had an activating effect on me but for most people it works great! |
I would try to contact a yorkie rescue (I think someone already suggested that) if you really have to rehome. I think you are great for taking her in when your coworker pasted. I know you are torn on what to do... but finding a person who will lover her and doesn't travel much is one way of showing love. |
Allie is adorable, I hope you work it out ! |
Does she shake & act like she is afraid of the ride ? or does she get over excited ? Just wondering if anyone has suggested that maybe she thinks you are taking her to her momma ? I have a rescued ShihTzu who used to scream like a mad man every time we went for a ride & one neighborhood was the absolute worst but he did not appear to be fearfull. As it turns out my poor little Monkey used to live in that neighborhood with his original owner before she passed away, so the poor little guy thought he was going home to see her. We stayed away from that area for about a year as he got more & more attached to me, we are now able to pass by the area with no more screaming. It brakes my heart every time I think what he went through when we drove through that neighborhood. Just something to think about. |
