Hello all, please can I have your help. 3 Attachment(s) Hi all, :) I am new to this site (It took me a good 10 minutes to find out how to post this thread so I hope it's in the right place) Today, I got my Toffee. My little Yorkie...:animal-pa I am a bit confused though. Toffee is around 8 weeks old. Her siblings had proper Yorkie hair, scruffy, cute and I saw her Mum who was 100% Yorkie, but my little Toffees hair is SO different, I am now thinking a million things, as I never saw her Dad, could he not have been a Yorkie and instead she has his coat? (and the woman I got her off lied?) She did say her hair will come through when I asked, but, to me, it seems so different. My knowledge on Yorkie hair is non-existent and I've been googling a lot.:confused: Please let me know if this is just normal and she will 'fluff' out soon. I love her regardless, but would feel more settled hearing what you think. Thank you so much :) |

I am pretty new to YT and to the yorkie community, only having had my puppies for 6 months, but the coat on Toffee to me doesn't look like my yorkies' hair. Like I said, I am new to yorkie puppies so maybe some puppies do have coats like Toffee's. I know someone with more experience will reply soon to your post. |
I don't really know what the coat should look like at 8 weeks. My puppies were both older when ai got them but their hair was long and soft. |
This puppy looks much younger than 8 weeks. Also, the hair looks awfully short. She looks like a Yorkie cross, and not a purebred. I could be wrong, though. We'll see what others say. If you are concerned, you might consider getting a Wisdom Panel DNA test--it's not 100% accurate, but it should be able to distinguish between a purebred Yorkie and a Yorkie cross. |

Toffee has the markings of a yorkie, but in the pic her size and feet looks way big for a 8wk old pure bred.. |

1 Attachment(s) For comparison, the below picture is my boy at 8 weeks. The hair on all of my yorkies didn't start to get really substantial until 12 weeks and its more sleek than fluff. In all honesty your pup looks like a yorkie/daschund(sp?) mix in the last two pics but the first pic looks like a yorkie puppy to me. She does have the markings of a yorkie as another poster said. Does the breeder have any other dogs in her home? |
2 Attachment(s) This is Magnus (teapot) when he was less then 8 weeks old. Didn't even have teeth yet... Attachment 406209 This is the most recent picture of him. I came across several other yorkie owners that swear they have one that looks just like him and they're 100% sure their yorkie is pure bred. (Have AKC paper, etc..) Magnus grew up to have cotton coat. Attachment 406211 Zoey on the other hand is silky coat. |
The owner only had a puppy English bull terrier. That's all. Then there was Toffees Mum and four other pups. They were together. I actually thought dachshund myself from her coat. I kind of don't want to believe that though as I wanted just a Yorkie. From the pic @colesmommy01 put up, my Toffee looks like that, just minus the coat. I will keep an eye out for the 12th week but from the comments so far, I guess she is a mix. I messaged the lady I got her off and she has said both Dad and Mum are full Yorkies and the coat will come through soon. My gut instinct now tells me otherwise. Thank you @pstinard for the lovely welcome. We will be hanging around :) |
I saw a puppy on the internet a few weeks ago that looked like yours and had to go searching for it. To me, this looks like the pictures you posted; just not as dark coloring. yorkie mix pups | Adopted Puppy | proctorville, OH | Beagle/Yorkie, Yorkshire Terrier Mix |
1 Attachment(s) Welcome to YT . Your pup is adorable . Whether he is all Yorkie I do not know . Maybe Yorkie coats grow at different rates . When my Yorkie Oscar was 8 weeks old his coat was quite long and fluffy .. Attachment 406212 |

You must be so very confused and wondering what the heck's going on... Again, as the others have said, Harry was always a lot 'fluffier' than your little Toffee - but then again he was 4 weeks older than your little girl when we got him. I truly don't know (I'm certainly not the expert here!) but she looks like she MAY have a little bit of dachshund in her fore-fathers?!!? Whatever - she's a little sweetie-pie, and I truly hope you stick around on YT....everyone here's so lovely...and you'll get all the advice, help and support that you might need :) Sally + Harry :aimeeyork xx |
#1. I see what some are saying about the doxie look. #2. dang, that puppy is cute! |
1 Attachment(s) This was Jasmine at 8 weeks for comparison. She didn't have much hair then, but it grew out to be long thick and silky. |

Bradys MOM Dont worry the fur will fill in and the colors might change a little mind did |
In total I had 4 yorkie pups, all gotten at 8 weeks old, all had fluffy hair, sorry to say, your baby looks like a mix, but a cute mix. I do hope I am wrong and the person you got her from didn't scam you. You will love little toffee no matter if she is mixed or not. |
To me, a complete novice, she looks like a mix of Yorkie, Cute, Darling, and Adorable--a very nice mix, indeed! |
She's very cute and I love her name! Whatever she may be, I hope she's healthy and makes you happy for a very long time. |
Like everyone else....my opinion is she's totally adorable! Unfortunately I also agree with others saying she looks to be a mix with daschund or possibly chihuahua. And her feet do look a little big. But honestly all bets are off when it comes to yorkie pups! If her litter mates had the wispy hair and she was the only short hair it is possible mom got bred by more than one breed of male. But maybe her hair will grow in and all the speculation will be just that! Either way....very happy she is loved....she's beautiful! |
She's adorable, but no way is she full bred. If it bothers you that much you can go to the vet and have them run a test to tell you. |
I have seen quite a few Yorkies from birth on, and I've never seen one with hair that short and slick. I think your pup is mixed with something. |
Thank you all. I am sure she is a mix and the lady that I got her from lied to me. Unfortunate, but I love my Toffee, so it's no longer a big deal. I am a tad upset but, Toffs sweet face and personality makes me forget. Thank you for your help and your views everyone. :) |

Yeah, once they get those puppy eyes on you and you realize that you will be their sole provider for everything in their life, they really have you wrapped around their little paws, don't they? |
Yes, please continue to post on Yorkie Forum and let us know about her antics and quirky, little personality traits, and pictures, please! She's a cutie for sure and if she is a blend, Toffee is absolutely one of a kind--and you got her, yeah! Enjoy your baby; she's lucky to have you and you her! |
Honestly, I would get a DNA test done on him. Did you see the father? Did they have dogs of other breeds around the house? It is totally possible for a dog to be impregnated by two different dogs of different breeds and have some purebreds and mixes in the same litter. It could also be some type of genetic flaw, Yorkie pups have different amounts of hair and hair of different thicknesses and textures but by 8 weeks they generally have much more hair than that. |
she looks like maybe a mix of some sort, she sure is adorable though, did she come with papers |
1 Attachment(s) This was Kyra at 8 weeks at breeders as you can see she grew a long full coat. Either way your baby is adorable. |
