Does your Yorkie like to go swimming? Mine hides at bath time. I'm out here at the pool and when he gets hot, he steps on the top step to let me know he wants to go swim and cool off. |
Mine absolutely adores it. Dogs are smart they know baths are well baths - but swimming is pure fun:_) |
Lol He knows he can make me drop what I'm doing to put him in the water. He does a circle and climbs back out afterwards |
1 Attachment(s) ZoE will swim, but I wouldn't say she likes it. She loves her little paddling pool that she can jump in and out of on hot days, but doesn't seem to like the one where she can't touch the bottom. Here she is swimming in my floaty pool. |
1 Attachment(s) i have to say Cody likes his kiddie pool, last year we had a pool invite from a friend of mine, I had Cody on a retractable leash, Cody had never seen a pool before this event, my friend was in the pool, Cody saw my friends LEGS below the water and went into Cujo mode lol, attacking the water, trying to kill the monster (he was 3 1/2 y/o) see pic,he jumped in the pool, his eyes were as big as saucers when he realized there was no ground beneath him lol, I guided him back to the steps. Still holding his leash I got in the water, again he jumped in, swam to me with his saucer eyes lol, again I led him to the steps. I just got him a life jacket, now I am waiting for a pool invite lol, I think with the life vest he will have more confidence. But that water is so dang cold. When I fill his kiddie pool he will hop in and out, after a few hours and the water gets warmer he'll stay in, he digs at the water like a crazy boy and bites the bubbles he makes lol. Now he is use to water in a pool, I think as long as I am in the pool he will like to swim. (keeping fingers crossed lol) |

Are there vests or floats for Yorkies ? My profile pic. He jumped on me floating in the water last year. Guess, I wasn't paying enough attention |
Jackson lovessss to swim. I always encouraged it though and made it a fun and positive experience, then he started jumping in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMV2VrK2Q7k |
How cool |

Yes, they make life vests for dogs. Here is ZoE in a life jacket, swimming in my other pool. She's since outgrown the life jacket, so I just gave it to my daughter to use for her puppy that she gets this week. |
We bought a life vest at Petsmart |
How much were they ? I don't have a pet smart close by here. Might check amazon . My lil guy I don't think will get in the water unless, I put him in off the step |

I was just informed that it was Amazon not Petsmart, Here is the link. It says only 1 XXS left and more XS left. |
Hannah likes it as long as I'm right there with her. My Silky, Rocket loves water regardless of where it comes from pool, pond, mud hole, hot tub or hose. I can't keep him out of the hot tub when we turn the bubbles on. It makes him crazy and he does not stop barking or jumping in until I turn them off. |
Sunni loves the little kiddie pool I got for her. Its way more fun watching her chase the hose as I fill the little pool with water, lol...she goes nuts putting her head in it andd trying to lick the water...She jumps in and out of the pool and really does have fun...I throw some toys in it and she plays just like a toddler would, lol. |
I took her to a pond not really expecting to go near the water and to my surprise she jumped right in. Thankfully I had her on a leash. Totally surprise. But I am not sure if she jumped in because she was trying to catch a fish or if she really liked it. Who knows with this little stinker.....she is such a tomboy. I do know water doesn't really bother her accept when I am washing the car. Then she gets all cujo and wants to attack the water coming out of the hose. |
4 Attachment(s) Lola hates the bath but loves to swim regardless where, our lake, a pool, and even the ocean. Here are a few of her wet, on my sister's diving board that she had just jumped off of, in a dock diving competition and in our lake. Normally she is in her life jacket but for quick dips by the shore she does not always wear it. her love for swimming and balls does make me nervous though so we now have to keep her tied to a long tie out when on our boat. One time we were beached and she was hanging out on the back of our boat with us. she spotted some guys in the distance in the water playing catch with a football, before we could stop her she jumped right in and swam towards them so fast we could not catch her, good thing she was wearing her life vest. She also is know for rolling her ball into the water and them jumping in to get it. |
Lola has her own raft and a small inflatable boat, I like to paddle around the lake on my raft so I tie her raft to mine and we float around. I had to stop bringing her toy with us, since she pushes it off or drops it out of the boat and then jumps in after it. LOL not very relaxing for me after a while. |
We tried to get Sophie to like swimming but it never happened! If we turn on the shower or start a bath and walk out of the bathroom she runs and hides thinking she is going to have a bath. During the bath she goes all limp noodle on us so it makes the process 10x harder and I think she secretly loves that it takes extra effort to stop her from slipping around because she won't stand on her own! |

:icon1: Jackson lovessss to swim. I always encouraged it though and made it a fun and positive experience, then he started jumping in I love his mighty jumps/leaps into the pool---He is totally committed and super confident! I just adore your Jackson!!! I'll be curious to see my Piper's reaction to swimming--she's pretty willing to try new things, so I'm hopeful (Am I hearing Beach Boy music...?) |

Lola is sitting on my lap in a towel, on our way back from a walk we stopped by to see my friends grandkids that were playing by the lake, before you knew it Lola was in the water and they had: some small sponge type toys they kept throwing to her, she had so much fun.:animal36 It's very hot here in MI today, mid 80's and extremely humid so I am sure it felt good for her to get wet. |
Donna did you get any pics? |
