Of course! Welcome! :) I'd love to see your pup! |
I am glad to see mixed breeds are accepted on this forum, my little girl is a Yorkie Shihi Tzu mix. I have been reading about both breeds and they seem to have many traits in common which may make things a bit easier. I am sure someone on this forum will have answers to all my questions. Phil |
Despite the name, this site is not limited to only Yorkie owners. You can have a Great Dane for all I care; it's a dog and as long as you're passionate about him/her, that's all that matters. Welcome, I hope you enjoy your stay! |
Is it a yorkshire terrier or not? Hey, I should not be worrying about this, but I can't help it. I just bought a "yorkshire terrier" puppy, and she is supposed to be 2 months old, but everybody who sees her say that she doesn't look like a real yorkie. My mom has been comparing Cayetana (that's her name) with internet pictures of puppy yorkies and she says that she doesn't look like them. Though she has the black and kind of beige color, Cayetana does not have wavy and long hair. She looks like any other breed of dog. Her appearance is even similar to a Rotweiller's Please, check link: http://www.evawalls.com/wp-content/u...otos-beo9q.jpg The doctor says she's an "80%" yorkie, but my mom believes she is a 5% so, how could I know? She does not have long hair, like regular yorkies. Does anybody have this case? I'll try to post a picture of Cayetana. THankyou :) |
At 8 weeks my puppies still had rather smooth hair. Now at 10 weeks they are getting really fluffy. Mine looked like rotts or doberman puppies when they are small. That is really what Yorkie puppies look like. She will change over the next few weeks. You would not believe how many people get on here and ask the same question for the same reasons. She probably is a yorkie and will look more like one as she ages. They will change color for the first 2 years a lot, and can change even more over the years. Post a picture when you can, I would love to see her! |

You are so very welcome to be here at YT :)! |
Philgoings, I've had Shih Tzu's for the past 20+ yrs:) and just got my little Yorkie rescue in January...shes still a puppy 6 1/2 mos old....They are very similar in so many ways, but I think Yorkies have more spunky personalities. My little girl is also much brighter then my little Shih Tzus lol..no offense to them. Both breeds are great because you really dont see dog hair all over the place..I only actually notice that now after almost 2 weeks with an English Bulldog here and there is hair everywhere!! I can't beleive how much a dog with such short hair can shed. One difference I really notice is my Shih Tzus seem to understand that they are little dogs, but my Yorkie has no clue! She has no fear around bigger dogs, which is good and bad. As long as I know the dogs are safe, its a good thing...but, I have to keep an eye on her. All in all I think the mix of both must be such a charming and sweet little baby.:) ps....I think I just rescued a little 1 yr old abandoned chihauha, lol. I couldn't stop myself from filling out the paperwork at a Rescue open house....just waiting for my home visit, lol. |
Welcome to YT. All new born yorkie's look like Rotie's. Give her time to grow her hair in. You will see many changes in hair color and texture over the next several months. Did you get AKC papers with her, did you see the parents of your puppy. Yorkies come in all sizes, not always the standard 5 to 7 Lbs. some will have floppy ears, some with straight stand up ears, all depends on the breeder. |
