Shame on Australia and Johnny Depp! |
I just read this and couldn't believe my eyes! I was going to post the link to Sky News, lol. I can understand the dogs have to go through quarantine, like everywhere else...but to threaten to put them down is gross. They said Depp is sending the pups home. Of course he would. They love them enough not to want to leave them while he's filming for so long. He probably would have been fine if he didnt have the dogs brought to a groomer who posted a picture. Oh well. |
Oh geesh! I hope he gets those babies home, and fast! |
Well . . It is a little stupidity on his part. . When you travel with dogs you have to find out what the rules are in the country. And just because you are a star doesn't mean that laws don't apply. . . There are these rules for a reason. . . Shame on Johnny Depp for putting his pups in the spot to begin with |
Can you take your dog to Australia? Yes, but only if it came from an approved country, is not pregnant and is not a banned breed or domestic/non-domestic hybrid The dog must first be fully vaccinated and microchipped before it can get an import permit Within 45 days of travel it has to test clear for diseases including Ehrlichia canis, Leptospirosis, rabies and parasites Five days before travel it must be health-checked by a government-approved vet in the export country On arrival it must go into government quarantine for a minimum of 10 days on arrival, longer if it is seen as coming from a riskier country or it shows signs of ill-health Private jets are subject to the same regulations as any other vessel or aircraft Source: Australian Department of Agriculture |
At the risk of seeming stupid... I still want to ask. Is the reason Australia is threatening b/c Depp didn't go through proper channels of bringing them with him? (I rarely travel and never took M/Z on any vacations before so no clue...) |

It's horrifying Australia or any country would threaten to euthanize a dog for not following regulations. Not saying a celeb, or any high official can just over look laws. Dogs can be removed, put into guarantee, fine the owner, but to threaten to KILL a dog, just horrifying. |

Yeah, I think Depp should be banned for being a moron and the dogs let go to me ;) |

Of course they are not going to put his dogs to sleep because he's going to send them home. When Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were working in England, they would stay in a yacht offshore so that they could have their dogs with them. (At that time England required a six month quarantine for dogs). Couldn't Depp do the same? |

I always wonder why these celebrities who travel internationally so often want to bring pets with them. |
with a private jet the passengers and (sometimes)luggage goes through customs in a terminal the jet is self can be but not often boarded to be searched the the pups could have been in a carrier in the plane and then later on just taken off with the crew or something like that |
must be easy to go to France with your dog, two of my yorkie friends are in paris with their pups one just arrived yesterday and is already posting photos of her dog on the paris streest |

Just like Beiber (sp??) took his pet monkey to Europe (?? Germany ??) and then left it in quarantine and returned to the States/Canada, without his little monkey, and I am not sure what ever happened to it..... |

France already has a rabies problem so there is no need to be as strict about it... I am happy that some Australians took the initiative to call out the guy who threatened to kill the dogs. Not only because it would be inhumane, but because it made Australia look really stupid... https://www.yahoo.com/movies/s/johnn...010611044.html Depp, if he knowingly 'smuggled' in the dogs, was the only stupid one here and hopefully he's learned his lesson! |
It looks like Johnny Depp's dogs are back on their way to the US: Johnny Depp's dogs leave Australia just hours before deadline | Film | The Guardian |
I wonder how much money Australia is making because a movie is being made there? I'll bet Jonny doesn't want to make another film there. Personally, I think Australia's prime minister could have handled this heck of a lot better. |
I have issues with people that deliberately break the law......especially just because they think they are "important" or "special" or "rich" enough they can get away with it. Other countries around the world are not as star struck as we are here, and they have strict rules/laws about smuggling plants, food, or animals into the country, and they enforce their laws. Australia has done just fine before Depp arrived on scene with his movie crew, and I bet they will do just fine if he gets mad because he had to follow the laws like the common folk and decides to never go back! I am glad his little dogs are returning to the States! Wonder if they will have to go through quarantine upon entering the USA customs??!! |
I believe Australia has one of the toughest biosecurity laws because they do not want any foreign plants, animals, etc to be brought in and upset their ecosystem. They have a system that has taken millions of years to develop and is quite unique. We have seen it happen in other places. A beetle gets introduced to an area and all the trees start dying. The sea lampreys are killing the indigenous fish in the great lakes. I don't blame Australia for having tough import laws. I do blame Depp for thinking he is above the law. |

England quarantine is six months so they are tough here but I can't imagine threatening a dogs life on the basis of their ignorant owner. Hope it's all resolved now...phew! |
