Problem... My doggy started doing little circles about 2 hrs ago. She does circles and then tips over. I took her to the emegency vet and they told me its either an ear infection or brain problems. :( so sad.... has anyone experienced these problems.. Shes only 6 months old.. |
The tentative diagnoses sound likely to me. Both of these entities are something that I would at least look for. Hopefully, your little pup has an inner ear problem that can be resolved. I have certainly had a pup now and then with an ear infection, but have never had one going in circles. There are ear problems that cause people to become dizzy and lose their balance, so this is certainly a possibility. I hope there is no neurological problem. This would be much more expensive and difficult to diagnose. I see that you took your little dog to an ER vet. I'm sure he suggested going to your regular vet for further follow-up. Please do this, and keep us informed as to what you learn. Carol Jean |
OH MY!!! A Vet should be able to tell you if it's a ear infection. I would go see a different Vet. We will keep her in our Thoughts & Prayers. Please keep us posted. |
I am afraid i do not know about this but I heard that going in circles is a psychological problem when it is not physical. If she falls over, it sounds neurological and I would have tests done as soon as you can to see if they can give you a better diagnosis and maybe treat it before it gets worse. Good luck and let us know... |
Well I took her to my regular vet, which also does walk in emergency issues. I dont know if hes the smartest man on earth, he always seems confused when i ask him a question, or he starts stuttering..:( He said if it gets worse to take him to an emergency hospital... Her tempeture is fine, her eyes are fine, shes now starting to cry a lil as she does her turning... I dont even know what to do, i cant seem to comfort her, so i just left her alone... This all started a little while ago, im hopeing its an ear infection, cause shes been having a wet cough for a while, she was on clavamox but that ran out... :( :( Hopefullly the antibiotics they gave me will do wonders. she weights 2.9 pounds in 6 months. She weighted 2.5 pounds 3 weeks ago, so shes eating correctly. |
I 'm so sorry about your poor baby. I would definately change vets and get a second opinion ASAP. She sounds like she is still in distress. i would hold her to keep her calm and get her to another vet tomorrow or the er vet tonight. Please keep us posted. |
I've only had one dog that did this but she'd gotten hit by a car...survived and was okay after we left the emergency vet (steroid shot, antibiotics, no broken bones so that in itself was a miracle). The vet told me that they'll walk around in circles when they've had a head injury. Is it possible that your baby has hurt it's head somehow? |
3 Attachment(s) I guess ill see what i do tommorow morning she just keeps looking down the stairs as she does her circles, and thats the onyl place she wants to be... |
maybe you should crate her so she can't fall down the stairs since her balance is off. She looks so sad! Please let us know how she is doing. |
Oh my goodness, the poor little thing. I will pray that she gets over this. I'm going to go read up some on these symptoms. |
Also, you may want to call the breeder. I know you had mentioned in an earlier thread that she had fallen down a couple of stairs when you first got her. Is it possible she fell again and injured her head? Or ran into a wall? i know Cali gets running so fast and just misses hitting walls! |
We had a peke that did something similar to this. Honestly, we thought he was just being a dog and chasing his tail, until he literally chewed have of it off and I had to pick up a bloody tail of the floor. Long story short, he had disentigrating disks in his back that were affecting his nerves and causing him a great deal of pain. We were told he could be kept on tranquilizers and nerve meds, but it seemed cruel to me. (He was drugged all the time.) Anyway, I would suggest having X-rays of the pup's back done as well if the problem persists. Better safe than sorry. :) |
Poor baby, please keep us in formed when you find out what the problem is. |
1 Attachment(s) hmm i wonder if she did fall from somewhere or if she hitt her head somewhere.. I know for a fact she didnt fall from the stairs because shes very good at going down them now... Its just so wierd cause she was so happy earlier... |

Poor little sweetie...she is so darling! I hope and pray she will be okay and you can figure out what is wrong! |
LA Doc JCV, I'm so sorry to hear this about your baby, I have a 2 very good vets for my Buffy. One is in Santa Fe Springs VCA Aminial Hospital Dr. "C" (562) 921-4145, they have specialist come in and they also use specialist from out of states when needed. I know that is real far from you, I'll PM with my number and also I'll contact a friend that lives in W. Hollywood that does breeder's referals. He will send out messages to breeders in the LA area and see who they recommed, that's how I found Dr. C. Please stay calm and keep her calm too. |
Thank you so much.. Hope nothing happens to her while im asleep. |
JCV do the symptoms occur about two hours after eating? If so then BE SURE to mention that to the vet. That could indicate liver shunt. |
Please keep the stairs blocked off so she dosen't fall.........I am praying for your baby, she is adorable.. Angie |
I knew of a cat that did this. It had a Neurological disorder. |

I PM him about this last night ( wong this morning at 3 am), told him to get his little one tested for Liver Shunt today. I have been waiting for an update, what worry's me is that I don't know any good vets in his area and from were he lives and the vet I told him about is about 1 hours drive. They are open on Saturdays. All we can do is wait :( :cup: :cup: :cup: :cup: I think I need more coffee I spilled my last one..lol |
Hoping for a positive update on this little one today.... |
Wonder if there is any new news yet? |
let us know how your baby is doing! I hope everything is OK. I would reccomend wsitching vets if yours isn't sure what's going on. A good vet should be able to tell you in one visit if it's an ear infection or not. Good luck! She's in our prayers! |
Hi YT, My dog seems to be doing much better she ate her normal food, and seems to be doing fine, shes not doing her little 12 inch circles anymore. She seems to be a little less active which might be due to the antibiotics. Thank you so much for everyone that prayed for her, hopefully it was just an ear infection. Now that i remember the vet cleaned her ears out with some kind of liquid, this might of helped. Also my mother was telling me that it might of been the new body spray i put on her, but that just doesnt make sense at all. I put on "tearless daily spritz ocean mist (superior skin care treatment for pets)" What do you guys think i should do? take her to the vet now? or wait a few days to see if the symptoms come back or other symptoms come? Thank you so much YT and rosie for being up late with me last night -John |
