Some guy tried to steal my Yorkie puppy hi all, I'm new to this forum. I had a weird incident today involving a complete stranger. I brought my 11 week old Yorkie girl to a family party. I was out front with her and my younger cousins when a stranger called out to me from across the street, "can I see your dog?" And he started walking over to us and when he got close, he pet Penny and she's super friendly which I guess is good and bad at the same time. He said, " your dog is beautiful" and he asked me what kind of dog and how old she was. Then he said can you come to my house I want to show my sister the puppy. I said no and picked her up and then he said well can I take her? I'll bring her right back. I said no again and walked back to the house. Just curious what you guys think of this? Do you think this guy was trying to steal my dog right under my nose? Plus I don't even know that he lived there as that's not my neighborhood. I got a bad feeling about him from the get go but after that I've just had this weird feeling for the rest of the day that I can't shake. So thankful my little baby is safe and sound where she belongs. |
Hi welcome to Yorkietalk :) Do you have pictures of your girl, we love seeing pictures? Also, what is her name? I'm not sure what his true intentions with your furbaby were but I think you did well in not trusting him, as you never know. |
Smart girl! You got out of there. Could have been about to take off with her to force you into following him into a house or right into a van to try to save your baby. So glad you got out of there and if he approaches you again, snap a picture surreptitiously if you can without costing you any time and then get out of there fast and this time, call the cops. They like to know if there is someone in the neighborhood possibly trying to lure women to follow them and if he had your baby and didn't return, obviously you'd have followed him. Be careful out there! And don't leave your baby out in the backyard unattended. People can come right up to your back fence and leap over it, take your baby and be gone in no time if you're not out there. Welcome to YT!!! |
You did the right thing. Always trust your instincts. |
Ugh yeah there was definitely something off about that guy. He just gave me the creeps. Thanks for the advice. I will be super careful. Her name is penny and she is a sweet, friendly playful pup who loves to bite lol still working on that 😜 |
Im trying to attach a pic but having trouble. It keeps saying it's too big even after I cropped it. Any suggestions? Ill post one tomorrow, sorry! |

Love little Penny. She's got that "it" factor and is a little star! What a little cupcake! Love that head and face. I sure like to see more pictures of this little honeybun when you can manage. |
Congratulations on your new baby,Penny is absolutely adorable !!! You are very wise too keep a close eye on her.... that man may have had evil intentions whether it was to lure you or to steal Penny. KEEP SAFE ! |
Congrats on your new little girl, she is beautiful. I agree with others, be very careful, he may have wanted you not the puppy. I'm curious why you would have an 11 week old puppy on the street before she had all her shots, that's a dangerous thing to do health wise for this baby. Well just be careful if you go there again. |
I wouldn't let a stranger hold my puppy outside. They may take off..PPl are unscrupulous and crazy. |
No wonder he wanted to take her, she is so cute!!!! Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Do be careful. I am getting 2 puppies in about 2 weeks and I will not have outside until they have their shots, but after that, watch out world as they will be going lots of places to meet lots of people because I want mine to be very friendly and outgoing. I might try to train mine to be a therapy dog so I want him to be friendly. My daughter has the girl puppy and I want her to be friendly as well. |
I'm not sure he was trying to steal her...but you were right in taking no chances... |
She is such a sweet heart she do cute I just want to kiss her : ) |

How scary. Glad everything turned out ok. |
I want Piper to be friendly and social, but strangers are never permitted to hold her...I'm very guarded with strangers around Piper--no matter the time of day or the location. I think you showed excellent judgment in moving away from that guy; he was waaay too interested in your adorable baby! |
Even if he was sincere, he's still a total stranger and it's good you avoided that situation cause you never know. I even heard that people who are trusted and such doing dog-napping and such, as well. Always trust your instinct. better safe than sorry. P.S. She is seriously adorable. I love my little Kimchi so much and even though she's about to turn 1 within a few weeks I missed her little "puppy"/baby look. They grow up too fast ; ; lol |
Scary and weird... Good thing you trusted your instincts and walked off.. Who's to say if he wanted you or the dog? Creepy! |
Adorable She is adorable, but all I think about is Big Bang Theory -- Penny (knock knock), Penny (knock knock), Penny. That is too cute. As for the creep, I don't blame you. We saw someone at our local Mexican restaurant leave their baby in the car to go in and eat. I was sitting in the car with our Zeus. It was not hot, and I don't think the dog was uncomfortable at all; however, I would never leave mine in the car for fear some nut would break the window and steal him. That would make me very angry! |
She is so adorable. Definitely hold her close. She is highly steal-able. My human children were absolutely gorgeous and I was always thinking someone might try to steal them. Penny is the same. |
Thank you everyone. I will definitely keep a close eye on her! |
Hello and welcome . .she is a cutie . . You have to trust your gut ! |
That guy is a creep. No one with common sense would ask such a thing. With today's society, if he wanted to show his sister the dog, he could've just took out his smartphone and took a picture. Good thing you said no.. he was up to no good. |

So glad you got out of it! Better safe than sorry. It could have been devasting... |
Such a little cutie!! |
WHat a doll Penny is! And it is hard to walk that line between being rude and paranoid and possibly allowing your fur baby to get into a non safe situation. I have a teeny tiny little girl and EVERYONE wants to hold her. I allow petting but not holding- especially kids. I have had several children want to hold her. With them, as with anyone I don't know who asks (And it happens almost every time I go out with her) It's better to just be blunt and say.."she is very fragile and squirms a lot. I am not comfortable with taking the risk that she could be unjured- but thanks for asking" I have had a few of the adults insist that they know now to hold a puppy. In those cases I just smile and say " Thank you! I really appreciate that you think she's cute and want to hold her, but I don't know you and I am NOT comfortable allowing you to hold her" And I walk away.....No one has yet, but if they insisted after that, depending on the situation, I would drop all pretense of being polite and tell them to get the hell away from me and my dog. You were right to get away from the guy. Anyone who doesn't know you from adam who makes a request to take your dog away from you doesn't have even basic social skills, and probably not very good intentions. I'm not sure if I would even bother being polite. I would most likely have looked at him and said "Absolutely NOT! I don't know you at all. If you want your sister to see her then bring your sister here but this dog is not going anywhere!" |
