teeth cleaning this Thurs... a bit nervous Time has escaped me, as I meant to post this last week Bailey (3yo) will have his first teeth cleaning at the vet's this Thursday. Wondering of others' experiences, having done the same. Should I give him something before hand to help with the anesthetic? How about care afterwards? I am quite nervous, and my mothering instincts to care for him in the best way possible are in high gear. What are other's experience in brushing their teeth? I, shamely, have not done this, but plan to after next week. Any tips on toothpaste and such?? I much appreciate input here. Cheers!

In Canada not USA After posting my question, since I'm not in USA, I'm wondering getting a good toothpaste product in Canada? Any suggestions from owners out there?? Thanks!

I was really nervous too when both Magnus/Zoey had their first teeth cleaning. Luckily Zoey teeth are exceptionally clean.. I have no idea why though since I don't brush her teeth... I do let her chew on the bully stick after Magnus softens it up so maybe that's why? Magnus on the other hand... I found using a gauze or cotton baby hand towel wrapped around my finger seems to work best. He absolutely hated the toothbrush and the fingerbrush he'd put up with it but only for a short time. Toothpaste... I use combination of Tropiclean pet clean teeth gel and CET toothpaste. I do have a friend that uses coconut oil too and I did read a lot of good things about it so I may start using it too.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I know how you feel, I was super nervous too! But as long as the pre-bloodwork checks out, your baby should do wonderfully! Please keep us posted!

Bailey's teeth cleaning went well. Having said that, he did have a bit of a scratch on his trachea, which went away w/in three days. I will be starting to clean his teeth myself from here on in... starting with a cotton cloth and coconut. On a side note - I have started to give him coconut oil in his food and he loves it Thanks to all who posted and I apologize for my tardiness.
