Food??? Can I give my yorkie the dog food called Cesars? She does not like her dry kibble and if I mix it with something, she will eat it........any thoughts???? |
Bella has Cesars 1/2 of the container in the morning and RC kibble the rest of the day. I know a lot of people on the forum use it because it the only thing they can get there babys to eat. I dont get that worried about meat by products its what they eat in the wild, they kill the animal and eat all the gut and insides , dogs will eat fruit and veg but I found that Bella just got a lot of gas from it. Its just MO There are a lot of people who think its junk food. Read the label and do what you think Cesar's with Beef Entrees ingredients meat by products liver beef chicken chicken by products minerals vitamins gums, colour dry yam natural flavors sodium and water and it smell good to LOL |

I have no idea if she will eat others......I just thought I would try this one and she is eating it just fine........stool is normal, so I think it is ok........ |
Just wanted to say that I hope the Cesars does you well and if she is happy with it and healthy then just great. Best Wishes to you and your baby. |
Wellness has little tiny wet food things that are the same size as the Cesar's but they would be better for her I would check those out and see what she thinks. |
I will check out the other food as well. I only bought a few Cesars to try them out. So am not out anything!! Thanks everyone for your input!! Also was wondering, the person I got her from, wants me to bring her to her house to see her. Is this a good idea or no? I was thinking it would make her depressed again and mope around. Don't want her thinking that she is going "home". Any thoughts???? |
I would suggest something canned from Royal canin instead. |
Visit [QUOTE=MMartinson;4551 Also was wondering, the person I got her from, wants me to bring her to her house to see her. Is this a good idea or no? Any thoughts????[/QUOTE] How long have you had her and how long was she with the other person? Myself I might not want to take her back as you said it might upset her and she might be thinking she was going "home". Especially if she was real attached to the other lady. I had a dog that I sold once and went to visit her one time and I used their bathroom and when I came out she was waiting for me outside the bathroom door so I never went back because I felt it would be too upsetting to her as we had been close. I did not intend to sell her either but was put into a bad position at the time. Hope that helps any. |
I have only had her a week today. So I know it would upset her if we went there. Or I am wondering if the lady wants her back???? She seems still very depressed so would not break my heart if the lady wanted her back. I am not understanding why she gave her up in the first place. She is a breeder and my son in law stated she had too many dogs???? I have no idea........I know it's the wrong title for the thread now....... |
If Cesar's is the only thing she'll eat then it seems she's made the choice for you:). There are other wet foods that are considered better, I feed Fromm kibble but also Stella and Chewy's as a topper. As for taking her back to the breeder's home for a visit...How old is your puppy? Is she completely vaccinated(core shots/rabies)? Have you been to this woman's home before? The reasons why I ask this is 1) if your pup is not properly vaccinated you should limit her interaction with other people and animals due to germs, even if the other animals she'd be in contact with may not be sick they may be immune and be carriers. 2) it's just not safe to go to someone's home you don't know. If the breeder wants to see what she looks like(is this why she wants to see her?) send her a pic through email/text if you don't feel comfortable(it seems like you don't) going to get home. |
Penny loves them...I give her mostly dry but I put a tablespoon or so of wet just to get her eating |
Jesse will be three in August. She is fully vaccinated, up to date on vet checks. I just wasn't sure it was a good idea to take her there. She may want to stay there!!! But as I said before, if the lady wants her back, that would be ok..... |
Honestly, I do think taking her back for a visit would stress her out, especially if her former owner doesn't want to reclaim her. She's only been with you for a week or a little over it, while she'd been with the breeder for years(?). I visit with my breeder regularly, but if I have a new puppy from her(or anyone) the puppy would need to be with me a little over or equal to the time she was with the previous owners. 12 weeks with breeder=16 weeks with me(i send video/pics though), just to hopefully cut back on confusion. Seeing as how Jesse is 3 years old that's not an option lol. If the breeder is not wanting her back, I would wait at least a month before visiting. |
Ok thank you very much for all the input!!!! It really helps!! |
Hi, I understand your situation better I think. The dog you have is three years old and I guess been with the other woman all this time and you have only had her a week. You said she seems depressed and I would rightly think so. You also said if the lady wanted her back you would give her back to her. So I guess you need to find out if she does miss her dog and would like her back first before you would take her over for a visit as it would greatly upset your new baby. Do you know if she took good care of her because if she did not you would not want her to go back into a situation where she was not cared for well. You also said your son in law said she has way too many dogs? Maybe that was why she gave her up and if so it may not be good for your new baby to go back with her. I hope things will work out well for you and your new baby. |
I know the topic was supposed to be about food but I had no real feelings on that and was much more drawn to comment on the visit with the breeder. For some reason, I had the feeling from reading your post that somehow you were feeling some sort of radar or instinct about the situation. I always go with my heart and follow my instincts. They are pinging you for a reason. You might have picked up on something subtle, unspoken, body language, etc. that you cannot logically reason out but that doesn't mean there isn't a concern. Another thing I really liked about your post was you saying that if the breeder wanted her back you would give her back and that your dog was "depressed". That really tells me that you have put your dog's best interests before your own feelings which I love. I say give her some time to settle in with you for a few months and then if you feel comfortable and the breeder still wants a visit, do it then. |

OK. I am not trying to start any arguments here but I am confused. I thought I have seen in multiple threads that "by product meal" is not the best choice of ingredients. I have seen many people recommend Royal Canin so I was looking at the ingredients today at Petsmart. The 3rd ingredient was chicken by product. We currently feed Max & Sasha Eukanuba Excel Adult Maintenance Lamb & Rice Formula because it advertises no chicken by products, no corn and no fillers. The ingredients are: Lamb, Brewers Rice, Oat Flour, Ground Whole Grain Sorghum, Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Grain Barley, Fish Meal (source of fish oil), Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Dried Egg Product, Dried Beet Pulp, Chicken Flavor, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Fructooligosaccharides, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Manganese Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Potassium Iodide, Cobalt Carbonate), DL-Methionine, Flax Meal, Vitamins (Ascorbic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate (source of vitamin B1), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Niacin, Riboflavin Supplement (source of vitamin B2), Inositol, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (source of vitamin B6), Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Brewers Dried Yeast, Vitamin E Supplement, L-Carnitine, Beta-Carotene, Rosemary Extract I am not looking to change their food because they both like it, their poop is good (believe me they have no problem pooping!) and we don't have any problems. But I just want to make sure I am doing my homework and giving them the best food possible. I have also seen it mentioned that quality control not ingredients should be the main concern and that makes sense. I am sure there is no one absolute "best" food as every dog is different so I know I cannot get a cut and dry answer but all friendly opinions are greatly appreciated! :) |
I can only speak from personal experience. When I got my first little Shih Tzu it was right around the time that they started to make Little Ceasars and it looked so cute, so I started her on that with dry food. That poor little girl had so many allergic issues and constant ear infections. I had to change her food. i think it was more about the sugar content then the other ingredients. They add that so they will love it. I know I like anything with sugar in it, lol. None of my dogs since have ever even tasted it because I know they will love it. I know its a big concern to get little dogs to eat, but I do think there are other brands a bit better for the dog that she will eat. Just get the small cans and see how you do. I do cook for mine but not all the time. I add that to the dry food and mix it up so they have to eat both, lol. Or I will split a can of Natures Valley pretty much any protein source, because they seem to love them all. |
