How does your Yorkie sit on/with you? Every since I got Teek in January he loves to sit with me on the couch. He does not like to sit on my lap though, much to my disappointment, but I don't push as if I pull him onto my lap he gives me that look. Then he plants himself next to me again and settles in. However, he will come up on the couch and I leave him room between me and the back of the couch and he will walk up there and then he will turn around and back into the spot as far as he can go and then lay down. He likes his butt to me. I thought maybe that was because he was new here, but he still does it to me all the time. He is honestly better at parallel parking than I am for sure! Every once in a while he gives me a rare treat of actually sitting on my lap but usually as soon as he is tired of being petted he is next to me again. I love him touching me in any way, so I settle for this, but I would love for him to just curl up on my lap. Do your Yorkies curl up on your lap? Do they prefer to sit with their butt or head towards you? |
Oh I love this thread concept! Lilah is a hilarious snuggler, if I lay on my stomach the small of my back is her snuggle cove for sure- she will curl up and call it a night and it is like she fits and belongs there, it is super comfortable for both of us :) often she will climb up into the space above my chest between my neck and shoulder when j am laying on my back and curl up there- some days that is sweet as pie and other days it is itchy and obtrusive, lol. It's a good thing I keep her smelling nice that's for sure! She is a lap hound but I do not sit much (it hurts my back) and when I do it's in a chair and I move around a lot so she always prefers while sitting to curl up in my beloveds lap :yorkieg: she will use me as a stepping stone to get into his lap. I think it's cute. She will lay on my lap while we are laying down though (I am a lounger not a sitter) often under blankets or on my tummy. I love hearing my darling laugh and say he can't get up because a four pound yorkie just curled up on him :) |
Penny sits right up high on my chest to one side. Like on my boob under my chin!!! Hehe |
Neither Lacey nor Pepper will sit on my lap. Both of them probably think there's not enough room and they are right. Lacey will lay beside me but not touching. If I hold her for more than a minute or after she's through cleaning my face, she starts wiggling and wants down. If I have my arms crossed, Pepper will jump up and lay down and take a nap. He will lay on my back if I'm sleeping. If I'm watching TV, he will sit right up against me and sleep. He does not like to be held for long either. I have two dogs and two cats and none of them want me to hold them for more than a minute or two. I'm left with hugging my pillow. |
I sit indian style on the couch and Lola lays infront of my legs. If I have my feet on the couch with my knees bent she'll bulldoze my knee with her nose until I sit the way she wants. My couch has recliners and she enjoys laying on the foot part too, it's funny when she lays on her back in the "hammock" between the hard bits. She used to like to lay on my legs in bed, but I had to train her not to because it hurts a lot. Now she lays next to me, she stole the outer edge from me, or on her balled up blanket. |
Max and Sasha both are all over me when I sit in the recliner. As soon as I lean back whichever one gets there 1st crawls right up to my chest and usually starts licking me. If Max is there 1st Sasha will come and get right between him and my face. What a bully! (even though she is only 3 pounds!). After a couple minutes of kissing my face (which I have to stop them or they would never stop) they will settle down with one on my chest and one on my lap for a nap. If I lay on the couch for a nap, I always lay on my side and Sasha come right up and snuggles under my chin while Max climbs onto my hip and perches there. These 2 absolutely CRAVE touch and I am more than willing to oblige them ! |
Teek loves to be touching me. He will move and push himself right against my leg. At night he will curl up right behind my knee and be up against me. I know he loves me. He is always wanting to be touching me, but I was hoping he would sit on my lap more. If I put him on my lap he will stand on me and not lay down and let me pet him for a few minutes and then he gets off me. One night I was very sick and so my teenage daughter kept him in her room for the night. When she got up in the morning she brought him into my room and told me that his tail nub started wagging like crazy and he ran across the bed and laid right on my legs and went to sleep. LOL Once in a while he will lay on my leg at night if I have one bent and it makes a triangle for him to snuggle into, but that has only happened a couple times. I love this dog and am happy he accepts me, I just wish he would sit on my lap is all. But, I will take what I can get! |

It all depends are where we are in the house. In the bed, she has her pillow that she sleeps on. She'll licks me on the eyelids every morning to wake me up at which point we do our little morning cuddle routine. In the family room, she has her foam doggy house that she likes to sleep in. I have to get pics because she sleeps in it backwards. She sleeps on her back with her hind paws sticking out of the opening....so adorable. Downstairs in the finished basement she sleeps on the couch with me. She will let me cuddle her but for the most part she likes to sleep or sit where she wants to. I think it is because I move around so much. Just as she is getting comfortable, I suddenly have to get up for some stupid reason. She does have to be in the same room as me and her royal highness will let me cuddle her for as long as I need to as long as it only last for 10 minutes or less :p My last yorkie sleep on my chest and would stay there until you move. She also liked to sleep under the covers right next to me. |
1 Attachment(s) This is how Ripley likes to sit on me... |
Nice hat! |
LOL @ xFoxyx :D |
Jade D, my Lexie sounds exactly like your baby. She wants next to me, not ON me. When she sits on her pillow on the sofa next to me, her butt is always facing me :) . Only time she will be on my lap is away from home, or in the car. Like you, I take what I can get. She's not a kisser either, but I adore her little weird self to death! :) |
All three of my dogs like to lie in my lap but my dachshund has realized since I got the puppies that there isn't room for her too. I am barely sitting down on the couch and the puppies are on top of me; one lays on one side of my lap, the other lays on the other side of my lap and my dachshund lays next to me with her head on my lap under the puppy. It is hard to move. They will lay like that until I get up or something else catches their attention. When we lie down on the couch, Elliot lays on my chest, Duncan lays on the top of my legs and Anya (my dachshund) lays on the bottom of my legs and feet. They all love to cuddle and I love cuddling them. Jade, I hope Teek decides he wants to cuddle with you soon. |
Dinky very rarely will sit on our laps. When he really wants to sleep, he jumps off his bed on the sofa then backs his rear end next to my thigh. Then he puts his head under his blanket and/or bed. |

He has been refusing to get up with me this week when I take the kids to school and instead buries himself under his blanket and when I get home from taking my kids to school I climb back into bed with him. |
Teddy is picky about where I sit! On our older couch downstairs I have to sit in one spot and lay a pillow down for him to lay in his spot...on other furniture he will jump next to me and make me pet him and then get down on the floor! At my house he isn't allowed on the new couch so he pouts and sprawls out on the cool floor! |
ZoE lays down right next to me. Right now, I'm sitting on the sofa and she is laying against my right thigh. She very rarely lays down on my lap. When she does I relish it and won't move for anything. Of course ZoE is known to time her lap time just so...you know, right when I'm thinking I should probably get up and go use the bathroom, she'll crawl on my lap and snuggle down. :D |
In the recliner, I have one on my chest, one in my lap and one laying next to me between thigh and chair. In bed, same one on chest, unless I roll over then she's on the small of my back. One laying next to my legs, and one that thinks she has to be laying on my pillow next to my head. Hard to move around but its worth it. Sometimes one will wake me up at night, pawing at me ,to say will you roll over I want my chest spot back. Too funny |
Cody has always laid on my lap or he'll lay tight up against me if I'm on the sofa. It was the bed that he wouldn't come near me. I have to assume his prev. owner allowed him on the bed, but not next to them, Cody would lay up on top the extra pillows near me, every night when it was time for me to go to bed, I would take him off the pillow, put him under the blankets next to me, he would fly out and dash back on top of the pillow. I wouldn't give up, I wanted him near me, against me. About 3 months of doing this he stayed a few minutes then out from under the blankets and back on top of the pillow, but at least he stayed a few minutes. Now into 8 months, stay under blanket a few minutes and comes on MY pillow, with his hind feet touching my head, like he was testing me to see if it was ok, I was thrilled, he did this for one month, mean while I am still putting him under my blanket next to me. 9th month, I put him under my blanket and he stayed. Every night after that I would hold the blanket in the air and tell him come under the blankie with momma and he would. When he would get to warm he would come out, but now would sleep on top of the blankets pressed up against my back. It took 9 months of me showing him it was ok to sleep next to me. For 2 1/2 years he was with prev. owner not allowed to be next to them, it took 9 months to teach him it was ok to sleep under the blanket or next to me. It's been 8 months now, and every night if he is not under the blanket he is pressed up next to me. I think with rescue dogs being trained what is not acceptable it takes a while to undo what he was taught, Cody is my first rescue and that was my experience with him. All my other babies I raised from 8 weeks old, they were raised to know it's ok to sleep next to me or under the blankets, my girls were either on my lap or pressed into my thigh when I was sitting on the sofa. Teek is only with you a few months, I would keep putting him on my lap, show him it's ok for him to be there, even if he does get off, if he likes the lap one day you will put him on your lap and he may stay. Being on a lap creates a lot of heat, some dogs don't want all that warmth, laying next to you keeps them comfortably warm. Never give up hope lol |
XFOxyx, how often does Ripley sit like that? Very cute, but I think it would hurt your neck after a while, but maybe not since he is obviously tiny. Do you have to get permission to try to see the TV? I lie onon my side on the loveseat and she lies in front of me, using me as her back rest. I wish she would sit on me sometimes because sometimes I get tired of watching TV lying on my side, but if I lie on my back there is less room for her and she looks at me until I shift for her. If I sit on the sofa she wants to lie between me and the armrest, she doesn't want to be on the exposed side, but sometimes will lie on the center seat if hubby and I are on opposite ends of sofa. I wish she'd be a little more snuggly and sit on my lap. My thigh seems to be a useful spot for her to put her hand on when she is supporting herself to scratch. She rarely sits ON my lap, however she will do it when there are people over that she is not very familiar with, or when my 3 year old niece is over. She barely got off me when we had our Super Bowl party. Not sure if she is nervous for me or for herself. We are getting our first skin grand-child in September. I'm curious to see how she does with that... |
Tessa is definitely a lap dog. I'm just barely sitting down and she's on the footstool ready to jump on my lap and go to sleep. She has a fit if I put my iPad or laptop on my lap, barks at me until I finally give in. However, the left side if the bed is her's and she doesn't get near me at all. She has a warm snuggle blankie she sleeps on. So Then I'm on the iPad reading all the YT new posts. Enjoy every minute of it. :) |
Teddy has never been a 'lap dog'. He likes to sit next to me or near me but he seems to get hot or aggravated if he's on my lap. He does, sometimes, sit on my lap but it seems like he's always waiting for an opening somewhere else on the couch. When there is an opening, he promptly claims it! When he was a baby, I tried to sleep with him during the first week home. I cuddled him next to me but he always found his way behind my knees or near my feet. Now that he's older, he likes to sit right under my neck or on my shoulders more than my lap. The lap, though, is a special treat but not one I expect :) |

If I'm sitting indian style, Emma sits in my lap. If I'm laying she lays close but not touching but still very much under me. If I'm in bed on my side, she likes to lay on my hip. |
Last night I got an almost lap dog. Jahryn was on the couch at one end with her feet on the middle cushion and I was on the other end with my feet on the outer side of the middle cushion. Teek got up on the couch and looked around and saw there was not room (although he could have sat next to me if he wanted) and so he laid down on my legs and made himself comfy. It is a start and I will take all I can get. When I put him on my lap he stands up and pushes his body away from me so his feet are pushing into me. I pet him and talk to him and sometimes I even try to lay him down on me but he will have none of that. He has sat in my lap a few times, so maybe he will someday. When I first got him and I would try to snuggle and cuddle him he would put his paws on my chest and do the same thing, he gave up after a week of my pulling him close and kissing the back of his neck and telling him how much I loved him and how cute he was. I thought the lap thing would go about the same way, but I will keep trying. I enjoy our snuggles as when I pull him close to me now he hugs my shoulder with his head and when he really pushes against me with his body I think he is trying to hug me back. He is a loveable dog and so I try not to push but I do try to put him on my lap so he can see that it is acceptable. Maybe it will take me 9 months, but I will keep at it! |
Lola will not sit on our laps at all:(, sometimes I try to force her but if she in not allowed to slobber all over my face she will wiggle till I let her go, she sits near us but not touching us and if I reach over to pet her she leaps down off the couch, at night she sleeps in a small bed at the foot of our bed between my husband and I. In the morning she rolls over and lets me scratch her tummy. It's odd she is affectionate in so many ways but yet is not a lap dog or craves petting. There is one situation where she insists on trying to get on my lap, and that is when I am in the bathroom, she could be sound asleep on another floor and if she hears me go into one of the bathrooms she bolts in, then practically leaps into my arms. Perhaps I should upholster an old toilet and seat and put it next to my couch so I could get a little more lap time out of her:D:D |

Bailey loves to sit right on his butt on our legs. Does not look comfy to us, but hey, what do we know:) As we have a cat as well, and they do NOT get along, we need to keep each on separate floors:( The cat is 13yo, sleeps a lot, so is happy to stay u/s from 6:30am til 8pm, at which time she can have the run of the house, as Bailey goes to bed in my room with the door closed. Bailey likes to lie in between our legs when we sit on our lazy boy couch and blanket covering our legs. He is not a cuddler, much to our disappointment, but when 'bed time' is called, he crawls right up onto my daughter's chest and looks so forelorn:( This is such a treat when it happens. During the night he crawls under all the blankets, curls up and stays there til morning. Is my Bailey the only one who throws off so much heat?? So surprising for an 8 lb'er. |
Teek is warmer than most bigger dogs I have owned! Teek is sleeps with me and I am never warm. He snuggles up to me though and he keeps me toasty. I am amazed at how much heat can come off a 7 lb dog. He is not allowed to sleep under our covers, per my husband's rules, although he would like to. He sleeps on our comforter but then he has his own blanket that he can snuggled into and cover up with. One night I was not covering him fast enough so he grabbed his blanket in his teeth and tried to pull it on him. He could not get it to move, so he gave up, looked at me (I was laughing too hard to help) and when I didn't pull it up he tried it again and then gave up and glared at me. I managed to get him tucked him through my laughter at that point. He likes his entire body covered, even his head at night. I can feel the heat from him coming through the blankets between us. I always know where he is at night though. I have "mom" instincts that always allow me to know where the baby is sleeping. |
