| Its up to you. I think its okay to cut back to twice a day. Mine have always been free fed so eat when they are ready and it has worked, even with potty training.

| I free feed as well. There is always dry food in their bowls, but I do give a can in the middle of the day with the dry. I split one large can between my huge Shih Tzu and Sunni. He gets 2/3's she gets 1/3. Seems to work. Harry's overweight from meds and a thyroid issue, Sunni is a healthy weight for her height and length..which is about 7.3 lbs now. I give a scoop of dry food in the morning and thats what they nibble on thru out the day…I count their treats as part of their daily intake, so I have to get healthy treats or with the puppy, i just use her kibble….She thinks its a treat if I hand feed it to her, lol. |

YT 1000 Club Member | I think you can cut back now if you want. I free feed now, but before I did it on a schedule. After my puppy is about your's age I'll probably go back to scheduled feeding. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Depends on the dog, I have one with acid reflux and he does better on 3 small meals a day. So I feed them both three small meals a day. Free feeding is great, but if you are doing lots of training, it's really good to have them slightly hungry for the training.

| My girl will vomit bile if she isn't fed 3x a day, so they are all different and so it would depend on your pup.

| IMO 3 x is better . If they are eaters. But that same amount 2x works also if they are eaters. But if they are picky and only have one. free feeding is fine. Just keep track of how much they eat. If you have more then one I wouldn't free feed because you don't know whos eating whats. JMO |

| My girls are 10, 8 and 3 and they get fed three times a day, but lunch is generally fresh fruits, or veggies.

ZoE gets fed three times a day per her vet's recommendation. This stops her from vomiting bile. Otherwise she'd require medicating to prevent the vomiting. To me it is rediculous to have a dog on meds when a tweak to the feeding schedule has the same effect. Do what works best for your particular pup.

| I also free feed and have never had a problem with it but will be having the vet closely monitor her weight because I am not opposed to feeding at scheduled times if the vet feels she is eating too much. |
