Update on San-Dee.... - YorkieTalk.com Forums

I have been doing allot of thinking about the situation with San-Dee & Jake, also about what everyone has written in their replies. BTW thanks everyone for the emotional support, it really helped. I have been keeping San-Dee separated from Buddy & Jake while I am not home, which he does not seem to mind at all. I am keeping his appointment to be neutered and have some cysts removed on the 16th and am hoping things go well after that. I just can not bring myself to make him have to get used to another home and owner. (Also my husband didn't sound too happy when I told him that San-Dee was going to have to go) I will take the precautions that are need to protect my grand daughters when they are here and also Buddy & Jake. I will keep you all updated if things should change.

Awe, I was gone for awhile and missed your previous thread. However, I can guess how things are going. I do hope it improves and that neutering will give you a miracle in his behavior. You just never know what they have been through when you rescue a poor animal. I wish you the very best. Please keep us posted.

I know you can make this work because you want to. You will just have to be very diligent. I have 2 that really get into some bad fights if I have a toy in the house and then 5 more will jump into the fight and it is scary to someone who doesn't know what to do. Because I know what can happen I take precautions with the 2 of them and am always alert around them. When I feed the gang the 4 little ones go into the xpen and then I put the food down the exact way every morning and night. Every dog knows its spot and in which order I put the food down. I then stand guard while everyone eats so no one goes into the other dog territory. When I leave the house the 2 are separated and the little ones are in another room. It works for us. When neighbors come over I always point out the Sammy sometimes has issues due to his background so it is probably best that you not love on him (he doesn't want it anyways) and besides there are plenty of them around. Again, with your grandchildren you will just have to be dililgent and always be aware of what is going on or put him in his xpen. It is much better to be safe. I am sure San-Dee is a street fighter from his original home so this is what he knows. Hopefully, neutering might slow him down (it didn't mind but I can hope for you).

I think neutering will help a little. You will probably need to put some attention into the situation to figure out this problem. Our little Bronx got very agressive with Zowie when she was pregnant, but in reality - I think Zowie would give him this 'look' that made him attack her. She is now doing that with Teddy (one of her children), he is about 7.5 mo and seems to want to become the dominant dog. She wants that position. She is Queen. I had him neutered a couple of weeks ago, but I know SHE is the one causing the situation. I alternately put them in 'time-out' when they 'mean fight'. Also, certain chew bones make them fight, usually ones that take longer to eat. The only time they actually bit us during these fights was when Zowie was pregnant and with young pups fighting with Bronx. They drew blood and we had to keep them completely seperated until the pups were about 8 weeks old. NEVER a problem with them since then. Good Luck! I think WE are supposed to be the Alpha - not them.

PS: I always keep the squirt bottle handy and squirt them when they start to sound too aggressive. Zowie hates it the most and will retreat to my bedroom, even if I just make the 'shhht' sound with my mouth!

And I agree wholeheartedly with livingdustmops statements.

Thanks for that suggestion with the squirt bottle, I will try it next time. (Hopefully I won't have to) They have been playing nice while I am home, but I still won't risk keeping them together while I'm gone.

Mine play nicely most of the time. I don't blame you for separating them while you are gone, at least for a time. I was very frightened when Bronx and Zowie were so bad, I don't worry about them AT ALL anymore. I am trying to keep an eye on what is going on with Teddy. I hope that now that he is fixed, that situation will go away, too. I just pick him up out of the group when the mean sounding fighting is going on, no one is biting me; but the others seem to want to jump in on the fight. All settle when I pull him up. Then if I pick up the water bottle, don't even have to squirt, and they disperse. DOGS! You gotta love 'em.
