so yeah, scammed i found a few adds on 'pennysaver.com' for people selling and or adopting yorkies and i'v had my heart set on one forever! so I'v found this woman who tells me ' i just want them to go to a good loving home, so for the cost of shipping her to you, she's yours' * was giving a story about new work transfer and not being able to keep her two yorkies* - so i work it all out with her. decide on a price and send a money gram- my first mistake apparently- i ALWAYS USE PAYPAL but she would not budge on the money gram thing. so here i am thinking im going to get a puppy to love and that it's all paid for a settled thinking now i just have to wait for an email and a knock on my door. well, i check my email :'( i get this email claiming that the crate my puppy was going to be shipped in wasn't up to the airports standers and that i needed to rent one of there's before they would ship my puppy. - so second mistake i talk to her and tell her i can't afford their ridiculous charge for the crate . she agrees to pay half since it's 'refundable' * like a fool that im usually not :/ i send her another payment. anything for my puppy i guess. well she than puts the puppy on the plan - or at least i think so- so again im excited its all worked out and puppy will be home in a matter of a few hours with a small deture due to delayed flight with the whole crate mess. untill i get an email from the second airport claiming she has to be quarantined because of shots and whatnot- even though i was told she was up to date on all shots and that records were being sent with her! so now they are holding my puppy at the airport under another bogus fee i have to pay or they wont send my puppy and i'll have to pay anyway! they say they will keep her 13 months than charge me for her care anyway! they want $2800 as a querntine fee! like anyone has that just ling around to throw at them!!!!!- again the seller offers to help but after hiding all these fees from me when she should have known about them if she's done it before, she's not getting another penny from me! so yeah, i may or may not actually have a puppy waiting for me sitting in a crate at an airport wondering why she's not home yet and i may have just given some b**ch about $400 that im never getting back that right now I can't afford to "just be out' :/ so yeah. i have no idea what to do now :/ all i wanted to do was open my home to my dream dog, and again im reminded why dogs are far more trustworthy than most humans :/ cuz either im being scammed and there isn't really a dog or there is a dog and they are suffering because this person would rather scam me than do whats best for this dog :/ |
Tardisyorkie13, I'm so sorry. Yes, you've been scammed. There never was a puppy. Sigh. I hate when people do this crap and hate it even more when innocent people get trapped in it. Hugs to you. |
I'm so sorry, but you've been scammed. There is no puppy waiting at an airport. So very sorry. :( |
I am sorry you have been scammed. WE tried to warn you when you posted on March 6, in the post. BUT most people don't want to believe it. We here know enough about this scam and it has been going on a long time. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...rustrated.html |
I'm sorry you gots scammed😪 Don't let it sour you on getting your puppy. I know it's hard but your best bet is to save up and purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder. Also, consider pet insurance if funds are tight since vet bills can add up quickly. |

The one thing you can feel ok about is that there isn't a puppy suffering at the airport...I received several of these emails and text messages when I first started looking for a puppy. I was even ALMOST scammed by someone that I physically went to see the puppy at her house. After I left my deposit I saw an ad for my pup asking more money....when I did some research I found a report saying that this person had taken a deposit for a pup from the last litter and then emailed the buyer a week before pick up that it had died. I think her play was she took deposits early for a lower price and then if she found someone who would pay more she told the first buyer the pup died. Thankfully I actually received my deposit back. In the end I did find my Winnie! Don't be discouraged.....but be very selective. And be patient. The right yorkie pup will find you! |
Just wanted to add....money gram is virtually a scammers paradise....there won't be much if anything you can do to get your money back unfortunately. Even paypal is not scam proof. I know that's probably not very soothing....I am very sorry you were scammed. Some people just are plain awful. |
I feel awful this happened to you. I know how much you were looking forward to loving this pup. (((hugs))) If you haven't already, you can help stop this from happening to others. Report this to the Federal Trade Commission and contact pennysavers to have the ad taken down. |

So very sorry . it's so hard to be a honest and trusting person in this world today. |
Very sorry you were scammed but THANK YOU very much for posting since it should help others from the same dilemma. |
I'm really sorry this happened to you. I have been scammed before in a different way. But when there isn't anything you can do about it, you just gotta look at it as a lesson learned. $400 is a lot of money to lose but when you look at it, it could have been a lot worse. |
I am so sorry that happened to you. As soon as you said MoneyGram it raised all sorts of red flags for everyone here. Mostly because a lot of us have seen it happen to many times before. I had heard of that for a very long time even before I came on here. I hope that you do find your dream puppy very soon. That is a lot of money to be out. Save up and hopefully you will find exactly what you are looking for, or maybe like me, it will find you when you are least expecting it. I would look into Yorkie rescue groups and see if you can't find a good Yorkie that way. Good luck and best wishes to you :aimeeyork |
Sadly this is a very common scam and lots of different breeds are used. |
back out? now how do i get the scammer off my back? every time i try to tell her i want out or im suspicious she comes up with another solution , this time she wants more personal information to 'apply for a card' to pay for the fee. (i haven't and won't give it to her- if it's not bad enough already she has my money and home address :'( i told her twice that im not comfortable sharing that info, and that i'v "been scammed before" and she responds back with "you can trust me, im not after that, it's the only way" im sorry, but that's exactly what a scammer would say :/ hello? person with red paint all over both hands standing next to a wall covered with the same sized red hand prints :/ as im typing this i get a text back from her offing to let me back out (after re guilt tripping me about 'i just want them to have a good home' ) :/ but still wants the info to return my money :/ although i would love my money back, to return what i borrowed and to look for a breeder - im not sure i'd trust her as far as i could trow her to actually not be scamming me further. so yeah, any advise? i was hoping not to have to involve any cops especially cuz she mentioned in her 'guilt tripping me' that she knows what happens to scammers who are reported so i was hoping to fix this quietly and i was doing this on my own so i'd hate to have to make official reports. |
Why dont you tell her she can return your money via Western Union and she can send it to someplace that deals with Western Union....Walmart ? The Post office ? Western Union place? That "card" she wants you to use is the largest scam known to mankind....they are on TV every night telling people NOT to send those cards to ANYONE...... What about sending your money to a PO Box??? You can rent a PO Box for a month for a little of nothing....let her send it there! Where did you send the money so she got it??? She can return it the same way back to you! I am sure you did not mail it to her house! Ask her what she is going to do about the puppy she has abandoned at the airport because the shots and health certificate she supposedly had taken care of, was bogus? Tell her if you dont get your money returned to you, you will be notifying the police and you will also be reporting her to FTC and Customs Agents about the dog being abandoned at the airport. I would go down to the police department and ask them if yopu can give this woman THEIR address to mail your money back! Tell them what has happened, what you are caught up in, and tell them you are afraid to give her your address because you are afraid she is part of a gang and you are afraid she will come rob you if she has YOUR address. See what they tell you..... |
Do not be shy about this, this woman scammed you of your money! Do not let her guilt trip you! I think you are really hoping that this is not a scam and that there is really a puppy waiting for you :( No hon, you are being scammed. If she is not listening to you and giving you more bogus excuses go to the police! At this point it doesn't sound like she will stop trying to scam you further because she knows your prone to this guilt tripping technique. Personally, I wouldn't even bother trying to negotiate this further. I would tell her I'm reporting her to the police and do so. Better safe than sorry! |

And hate to break it to you, but if you can't afford to be out $400 (well I mean who wants to be out $400) you can't afford a dog, let alone a yorkie. Buying the dog is the cheapest part of the equation. You asked for our advise I hope you take it this time. We all told you last time not to use Money Gram and that person seemed shady. Think about it, if someone really had dogs to rehome, for free, wouldn't there be a bunch of people in their own town, let alone friends or family that would take them off their hands first? If you want to get a yorkie for a few hundred dollars, look into reputable rescues. |

sadly by the time i had posted that and thought it though more, enough to suspect scam, i had already sent her money :/ so unfortunate i didn't think to ask for advise until it was too late :/ and yeah, i now know it was a scam but me and my bleeding heart always thinks about the animal first with my heart before my brain :'( i was thinking 'oh poor puppy, you can live with me and i'd love you forever!' instead of 'people are evil and this is waaaaay to good to be true' haaaaa oh well, fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on me. |

If you do NOT report her, you are actually aiding and abetting a criminal in her prusuit of criminal activity. There is NO DOG! NO puppy! Take that bleeding heart of yours and try to help the next "bleeding heart" this woman is going to scam. |
You didn't answer my question about not contacting the police. Why not? |
That sucks!! So sorry for you ! |
Quote:
so yeah, with my luck they would probably side with her or say it was my fault. |
That is not an acceptable answer. The scammer is not even in your jurisdiction. At the very least, put your tax dollars to work. Yes, anything to do with animals are low on the totem pole for cops, but you have to do this to try to stop scammers from doing this again. |

I think since you did send her money, and $400 is a lot of money to be out, I would try to do something about it. Contact the police or something. That's just my 2 cents. And good luck on your search. Just be patient and you'll find the right yorkie for you! |
If you really want to just cut your losses- block her number and change your email and move on.. There is probably not a whole lot you can do and it doesn't sound like you want to do anything confrontational anyway.. Therefore, just move on and I hope you have learned from this experience and I also hope that anyone who is considering buying a puppy in a similar way can learn from your experience, too. In the end, learning from our experiences is sometimes the best thing that comes out of those experiences. |
dog I hate to hear people ripping good dog loving people off. Now my Lord lives and hears every prayer and will not let this person have peace in her heart. I will pray for I believe we reap what we sow. This person will live miserable. Satan guides her life. You will get the best dog. Look up be positive watch God work in your life. I THANK Jesus for always working things out for our good. You will get your Yorkie! |
You need to get the police involved. Period. |
