Canine competitor poisoned at Crufts Just saw this on CNN - an Irish Setter that had placed second at Crufts was poisoned. The meat they found upon autopsy had been sewn together so that the poison could not be removed from among the meat.:mad: We just have to watch our pups all the time! |
Omg. Such cruelty |
This is when showing and competitivness goes careening out of control and flies completely off the rails! Think about this for a moment....we have a DOG PERSON, who breeds and shows dogs, and professes to adore the breed, POISONING and KILLING another beautiful example of a stunningly gorgeous breed, who is a competitor in the ring! OMG!!!! That poor, beautiful dog, just doing what its owner asked it to do, show itself to the best of its ability, and you have some crazy, screwed up *&%%$#@ slipping it poisoned meat !!!! What a horrific, painful death for a completely innocent dog.......SHOCK AND AWE!!! |
Unthinkable act of evil by some depraved nutcase freak of a creature! What a horrible death for any dog, be they gorgeous show dog or all-world mixture. No dog should have to die this way - his organs failing one by one from poison, especially one working hard for his owner, in that show at his bidding and last seen well entertaining doglovers, leaving them all smiling and happy because they got to see and appreciate him. Hope they find the rat who did this and give his owner 5 minutes alone with them before they go to jail. That poor, sweet baby - gone far too soon. OMG...there are no nice words for this atrocity...sob!!!:confused::(:thumbdown |
Disgusting. :( |
Just can't fathom this! Is this behavior that occurred due showing becomes a major BUSINESS ?!? Clearly, cameras are going to be needed in all benched areas in future shows to protect this innocent and loving pups , who, as Yorkiemom said, were just doing their job and trying to please their owner. |
This is awful...and so sad😰 I feel so sorry for the owner. |
So horrible to happen to any dog. What the heck is wrong with people these days? I hope they find this crazy person. |
I'm deeply saddened by the loss of this beautiful dog and for the grief of Jagger's owners. This is such a despicable act, and I hope the laws in Belgium are tough on whoever committed this terrible crime. |
How sad and despicable. :( |
:( Absolutely disgusting.... Thing is, at the moment, they're not sure whether it was a fellow competitor or a member of the general public.... The NEC in Birmingham is a huuuuge place - and there is CCTV in most parts of it. The Police, along with our Kennel Club, are currently trawling through it all. Will keep you updated as and when I hear anything else....:( xx |
So sad I can hardly believe that someone would intentionally do this to that beautiful dog. My heart aches for the owners, and all the Showing Community that must be stunned by this. |
OMG! What a hateful, depraved thing to do. I hope this sicko is caught and receives a stiff fine and sentence. I feel so sad for this poor dog and owner. |
Totally a despicable and depraved act. I certainly hope the Belgium police with the aid of Englands force gets to the bottom of it. Once the timeframe is known - given the level of public support I imagine that their will also be private videos submitted to the police inquiries as well as the public CCTV videos. This poison was meant to KILL, not maim a dog, make them listless in the ring, or give them diarrehea - I surely hope that the criminal who did this, is not a member of the dog show world. You know at Westminster this year you could hire private security guards to look after your dogs where they were benched. I have written before in the Show forum, that there is a sense of comaderie with dog show exhibitors, and a watchfull eye is kept. But still we do keep food outofsight as well as water. And of course it is true you can't be present 24/7 - calls of nature do happen. My heart goes out to the owners of this beautifull dog. |
Don't you know this will change large dog shows from now on, with every handler or security watching their dogs like hawks? This is so scary and as hostile as PETA and some organizations are toward purebred dogs and dog shows and those that participate in them, it's not inconceivable to think it will happen again. Sure hope CCTV or someone's camera caught the killer in the act and they can put their hands on them soon, before they hurt more dogs and try to find out if this was a conspiracy, going after any and all others' involvement. If killer belonged to some protest organization, it could be there are several who knew about or actively participated in this. |
Jeanie sadly it has already changed - and this was before this Crufts dreadfull death. It just will change more! After several mild cases of interference were reported and or at least suspected throughout USA and Canada; we exhibitors and pro handlers did go on more high alert. For eg: when I first started showing 10+ yrs ago, it was quite common to see the water jugs left out beside the dogs crate, as well as your food container. It has not been so since at least 5 or more years. Whom-so-ever did this can not call themselves a dog lover by any definition! |
I was so sad when I read about that. I am with the owners though, I don't think it was a competitor. I don't think they could do that to another person's dog. It could have been a person that targeted that dog, or it could have possibly been someone who hates dogs and didn't care what dog ate it. It is hard to say. Very very sad though. I hope they find whoever did it and get some answers. This world is becoming a terrible place. I have heard of people leaving pieces of cheese in a dog park with razor blades or poison in them. I also hear of people taping razor blades on playground equipment too. It is amazing what some people in this world would do to other people and animals. It makes me so sad. |
I heard about someone near here putting poison in water bowls at dog parks. I only let my pups drink the water I have brought for them. You just can't be too careful. |
This is disgusting:mad::mad::mad::mad: Poor beautiful dog. |

You are so right, Gail. That poisoner was no doglover!!! And this was not done to help other dogs by inhibiting show owners from showing their other dogs out of fear!!! This was pure evil. You know, one can't help but think of poor Jagger's last hours and all have to make sure that that never happens again. |
How doers someone get to be that cruel? What could have possibly happened in their life to make them want to kill a beautiful defenseless animal? They should be locked up. |
They are getting ready to cover it on our 5:30pm National News on ABC World News Tonight. I hope they have this depraived person on film, giving that poor dog tainted meat. |
Just watched CBS cover this awful story on their evening news with a tongue-in-cheek, alliterative, pun-filled report that frankly insulted me in its lighted-hearted tone during far too much of the report. The anchor said the reporter had a "nose" for the story or something like that to begin it and referred to them "sniffing" out the details and so forth. Totally silly, wrong attitude reporting this horrific story of the cold-blooded killing and painful death of an innocent dog. Sad that they tried to make light of this poor dog's death. |
I heard about this....despicable.. either it was a jealous competitor or someone who hates dogs and didn't care which dog ate the poisoned meat. |
Has anyone heard anything about the investigation and if CCTV and event security footage has been viewed yet, attendees questioned and asked for their camera footage, etc. I'm banking on them catching this rat(s)! |
This is totally disgusting. I know the woman who bred these setters because she is Teddy's groomer: Head to Tail I can't believe anyone would do anything so low and it really makes me question my hope for humanity. |
