When ever I have had to leave one of my babies I am crying before I am out of the vets door, I have to sit in my car and get myself under control before driving back home, so I know how you feel. So happy Molly is home and you can breath easier. |
I'm so happy that Molly is home and happy. I think that you were so upset just goes to show how much you truly love her.. I thought guilt was a just a mom/kid thing but, no, it extends to these little terriers, too!!! I could totally relate to what you said about thinking you were doing the right thing one minute and cursing yourself the next. You did the right thing, absolutely. I think these little guys are sometimes more insecure when we're around because they think that if they are scared, we are scared so they need to protect us from something. I think this is why so many groomers find that dogs act out when the owners are around! Anyway, glad all went okay :) |
One night in the parking lot at Wal-Mart, I told Piper that I would be in & out and this one time she was gonna stay in the car. She's sitting next to me, all anxious and excited to go shopping...so it took her a second, and then she was all "...Wait! What?..." and then in a completely impromptu, incredibly dramatic, totally effective performance--Piper became boneless and collapsed in a heap (albeit a little, tiny heap) by my side. Needless to say, Piper and I enjoyed a lengthy stroll throughout the entire store that night!!! I still have to laugh when I think about it--Not the same as your instance, I know, but our little lamb chops can turn us into quivering, blubbering guilt-ridden minions simply by refusing to look at us, right?!? Love love love. Hardly any animal can look as deeply disappointed as a dog to whom one says "no." |

Awe! I cry when I have to leave any of my dogs at the vet too. I stay when they let me. I know it's for their own good but I just hate that "help me" look on their faces when they get taken away from me by the vet tech. |
Yes, we do have to take our pets to the vet for unpleasant procedures but it is a good idea to have some idea just how caring the business you are dealing with is. Just as in human healthcare there are good providers and some that are not so good there are some veterinarian clinics that seem not to care about how their treatment effects the emotional well being of the animal. Several years ago I had a happy healthy little Maltese female that loved gong places until I took her to a vet that cared nothing about how the animals were treated before and after a procedure. I won't go into detail but many people complained about their pets reactions after having to stay at that clinic. My Maltese would start to shiver every time we turned onto the road that the vet clinic was on, even after we stopped going there. These animals are smarter than some give them credit for. My little girl remembered for the rest of her life what happened to her there. She had no problem with her next vet. The OP did nothing wrong. I am just saying that it is good to pay attention and even do a little investigating when choosing a veterinarian. They are not all the same. |
