Step in harness? I am looking for a good step in harness. What would you all recommend?? Spice is a 2.7 6 mo old little girl.:aimeeyork |
Simple Harness I bought a very cheap simple harness for my new Yorkie from EBay. It was only a few dollars and it works great. I have a 7 lb dog and it is almost maxed out for him even though it says up to 10 lbs. it is fully ajuga able to a small size. If your Yorkie is not always trying to escape or hard to handle a simple (cheap) harness like that might be great. My Yorkie is 9 years old and very laid back so I have no problems with him trying to wiggle out of it or anything. I got this dog 6 weeks ago with no warning that I was getting a new dog so I had nothing for him except the collar he came with. I have bought him a new collar and a harness and leashes. He has clothes and hair ties. I had to get him a winter coat because even with a sweater on he was cold outside. I have been happy with the cheap harness, but a different dog might not do as well with it. |
I would buy a cheap one until she is fully grown and then buy a buddy belt. |
I'd probably buy her a BB2 (synthetic leather buddy belt) a size 2 is $25 and is supposed to fit up to 4lbs. She may need a size 3 fully grown, but it's very hard to find a secure harness for such a small dog so I'd rather spend a bit more. I bought an extra small step in harness at petsmart and it didn't really fit until my dog was about 3.5lbs, which was ok because she wasn't finished her shots anyway. She was about 5lbs at 6 months, that's when I bought her size 3 buddy belt, now at 2 years and 7lbs she'd do better with a 3.5, but the 3 still fits. |
We have buddy belts. They're long lasting and extremely soft. Some people have had theirs 9+ years. When we first picked our pup up at 12 weeks and a little over 1# I had a size 2 and it still fits (he's about 2.5#'s and the size 2 goes up to 4#'s I think). I actually just recieved a new BB harness and leash for the pup I'll be picking up in a month, size 2 again since it seems she'll be in the 3-4 lb range fully grown. They're stylish, well crafted, and can take the wear and tear. PLUS one of the members here is a retailer and will help you with any questions you have. |
Not trying to get off track but does anyone know why some of my posts go through immediately and then others tell me they will post after a moderator approves them? I think I have 5 or 6 posts that are not approved yet and then 3 or 4 that showed up as soon as I posted them. Thanks |

I hadnt realized they were so expensive! I think until I get more of her vet business (spayed blood work) done I will get a cheap one and then a buddy belt as it sounds like they last a long time . Thank you all for your help and great advice! |
Yup thats why you wait till there full grown. A good harness is a must. Never know when danger comes and you need to yank the dog in your arms quick. Buddy belt will be the last harness you buy. Unless you buy another color :) |

On buddy belts website the BB2's have made in china stamped on them too. Buddy Belts Buddy Belt 2 – BB2 I guess synthetic leather is different to work with. |

BB The BBs are great, but I found the harness rubbed and irritated my dog's front legs. I got the liners but they don't help much. I went back to the Doggy Design harness as it was more comfortable. I guess my dog's anatomy did not suit the BB as so many here love them. I love all the colors and the design idea, they are very safe. |
