Should you disclose your past unlicensed Yorkie on adoption application My Yorkie passed at the age of 18 so I would like to adopt my next friend and give him/her a chance to live a full life. My county animal management seems to have most choices and low adoption fee compared to surrounding jurisdictions. My issue is that my former Yorkie was unlicensed. Should I tell the county animal management that I had a dog in the past? I think they will check county animal registry and can find out that I did not have a licensed dog..... Is it better to not disclose that I had a Yorkie in the past? If I disclose, will it necessarily deny my adoption application, and can the county possibly fine me for having had an unlicensed Yorkie even though Yorkie has passed from old age? I am in need of my next friend so I would like to get approved on my 1st application if at all possible. My county's adoption application doesn't seem as intrusive as some private organizations' application. Your advice will be appreciated. Thanks. |
I went through the pre approval of our local shelter a few months back.. seemed that they were just looking for the basics... it's not complicated... stick to the truth... keep it short... shouldn't be any questions about lic.... I "think" you're over thinking the issue about licensing... It's not like they are the IRS. ;) |
I would just tell the truth. |
Ya know lol, my girl passed last year, I never registered her with the county, it just slipped my mind. Now I have an adopted boy, it's now 14 months, I was going through his folder that came with him and found the dog license again I have not registered this one, to many other Priorities again, slipped my mind. I don't believe I read of the form about being a first time dog owner. But, if it did, I would not say I owned an unlicensed dog, like Markofsea wrote their not the IRS. Thanks for this thread, I am going now to write out the check for the license before it "slips my mind" AGAIN. |
How do you just not license your dog??? Here, they come around and check homes. It is a $300.00 fine for every unlicensed dog, plus you have to pay for any shots required to obtain the license. Failure to pay within ten days results in jail time. Licensing your dog shows proof of ownership. Heaven forbid your dog gets loose and taken to the shelter, how are you going to show its yours and get it back, because they wont release an unlicensed dog. Not to mention, our licensing fee is what helps support the running of the shelter and our local animal control. Its a nominal fee for a spayed/neutered dog, so I cant see why you wouldn't license your dog. |

In my area King co Washington. They never check. But I do license my dogs because it helps the shelter. I wouldn't worry |
A license is only good if they are put in a shelter is if they have it one. I put them on Moki when he's out but if he ever escaped he wouldn't have them. He would never escape and if for some reason he did he has a micro chip= better then a license. Anyone can find a dog get a license and say its theres |

If not registered, the dog is placed in a public ward. A sign denotes when the dog was received and when it will be made available for public adoption. If chipped, the chip registry is checked and attempt is made to contact the owner for 10 days, then is up for public adoption. If during that time the owner comes forward and is a county resident, they will have to show proof of rabies vaccination. If not vaccinated, vaccination will be done and charged to the owner, along with a $300 fine, a $25 impound fee and a $9 per day resident charge. It the dog is not chipped or tagged, it will be deemed a stray, put in a public ward and made available for adoption in four days. If the owner comes forward all the above fees will be charged; rabies shot, $300 fine, $25 impound fee, $9 per day resident charge. |

I can microchip my dog without a licenses. When I get a license I put my microchip info there. All Vets , shelter scan your dog. Your dog can get lost and picked up. They will call you. Your dog can get lost without its taggs. Making it not effective. |
I'm not saying not to license your dog. You are suppose to. It helps the shelters. But if you don't. Not much will happen |
