All vets all rescues check for Micro chip. If someone finds your dog and they don't tell anyone?? Doesn't matter they planned on keeping the dog. A person who wants to return the dog will contact the proper place who most likely will check for micro chips. But like you said most ppl don't have the licenses on the dog anyways |
In live in the Atlanta area in Fulton County and they also keep very close records for dog and cat license (yes you have to license a cat here). The reason for the licensing here is for Rabies control and of course helping locate strays and owners. In Fulton County if you do not license your pet or renew you are sent a summons to appear in Superior Court before a judge and fined a pretty hefty sum. Our Vets are legally obligated to report pets the first time they are given a Rabies shot and the county takes over after that. When my Cat passed I had a heck of a time proving to them that there was no need to license him any longer. Also wondering how I know about Superior Court? I had to appear once for a traffic violation and I would bet that most of the people who appeared before me where for unlicensed pets |
Yeah in the Seattle Wa area they don't enforce it. Some ppl need to have a kennel license they have so many cat and dogs but they don't. |

Back in the 90's I answered the door and it was animal control asking if I had any dogs. My two were there barking at the guy. They were not registered and I was fined. Never again. That was embarrassing. |

Yet, it's only $10 per year license fee for each spayed/neutered dog. $30 if not spayed/neutered. So it's cheaper to license a fixed dog every year of its life than it is to ever risk a fine. |
In King co Wa =The fine for an unlicensed pet is $125 for a spayed/neutered pet, and $250 for an unaltered pet. And I've never seen them enforce it. That why ppl don't licsence the animals. If you have 2 dog and 2 cats they figure they save ~$120 every year. But I've always licesened my animals. I know several neighbors who don't. If they were to come to the door they simply wouldn't answer it. |
To my knowledge our town dont have that. They do in some towns in ohio. Columbus an a small town east but to y knowedge not here |
I don't remember the amount of the fine but it was still embarrassing to be asked if I had a dog and they were right there. Couldn't deny it. |

When I was younger and living at home when we had three dogs we would take them to the rabies shot event thing the human society did at the fair grounds and they never asked or said anything about licenses. I'm guess a lot of places don't worry about it much. |
