I contacted the breeder (about Loki issues). I advised her of all the medical issues his having. I advised her that I am putting her in warning not to breed these two dogs again.

My name is Tika Singh. I bought a yorkie poo (boy) from you on April 6th 2014. My Yorkie is not even 1 year old and has been diagnosed with Bilateral Hip Dysplasia along with MPL (knee issues). My doctors (several) have advised that this genetics, and the dog shouldn’t have been breed. Now my poor baby is facing painful surgery’s to try to heal the mess that you have caused.

I have no choose in the matter then to move forward with many things here

1. I am going to report you to the State of Oregon
2. I am going to report you to BBB
3. I am going to report you to all legal aspects I can
4. I am going to report your zoo

I see that you have a history of complaints (please see attached). I am going to give you 24 hours to get back to me either via fax, or phone to discuss this matter and preventing me from making this a very painful process for you. I am emailing you for two reasons-

1. TO WARN YOU TO STOP BREEDING DOGS THAT YOU KNOW FOR A FACT HAVE HEALTH ISSUES
2. TO HAVE YOU GIVE US $1500.00 FOR HIS SURGERYS.
3. SEE ATTACHED HIS MEDICAL SURGERY PAPERWORK.
This is not a joke, and a responded is needed by 1.6.2015 by 5:00pm from me taking further actions.

I am truly sorry that the puppy you got from me has hip Dysplasia. The parents do not have this problem and if I had any knowledge of this I would not have bred them. I work very hard to have healthy puppies, would not knowingly put them or their new owners through any kind of undo stress. I wish you would have called or emailed before you got so mad to threaten me. I am very easy to get along with and am willing to work with you on this matter. I did not get the doctors report with your email would like to see it if you could resend it please. I am willing to give you your money back on the puppy. I will give you a call today so we can discuss this matter.

What I need help with is this-
Should I just take the refund back, or force her to pay half his bill. Giving my baby is NOT a deal with anything she offers.

Honestly I believe if she is willing to give you a total refund & let you keep your pup, that's all you can get. I don't believe a Judge would give you more then that. I'm sorry your pup has been dealt with all of this, poor little guy. I'll be Praying his surgeries go well & that his recovery is speedy.

Its like doing business with the devil.

I had to give her his medical report- which included his confirmation of apt of surgery. I am so nervous I did that, so I changed his surgery date one back before!!! Put his account on Special handling notes, and advised to put a password. I am nervous.

Reporting her is not going to do any good it is not illegal to breed dogs with genetic issues and she dosen't have to give you the money back so I wouldnt be so harsh with her. Obviously she's not a good breeder no offense but good reputable breeders breed to better the breed and since mixes are not a breed reputable breeders don't breed for them. I get your mad bad breeding makes me mad to and watching a dog suffer from issues because of that is even worse. But bad breeding is not against the law. It's our responsibility to research before buying a dog and try and get a dog from the best breeding we can. Just like me you didn't now that so we both got dogs with genetic issues that we are responsable of taking care of. It's not fair or right but that's just how it goes.

She called me and agreed to pay me $1650.00- she is doing it through paypal right now.

She has done the right thing here. And whether or not I believe her statement that neither dog has HD, unless she has posted the results on www.offa.org for each parent, I would take that with a grain of salt. She might not have even done the pre-breeding screening for HD, many toy dog breeders don't. And mild HD is usually not noticeable at all in young(ish) small dogs.


My health warranty does not warrant against a polygenetic recessive disease such as ED and HD. I will screen the parents - ie do the testing, but two clear dogs can have a puppy with either HD or ED.


As a responsible puppy owner you did the right thing on insuring your dog against genetic diseases and this breeder is doing the right thing by refunding your whole purchase price back, despite what-ever her health warranty said!


I am very happy this is somewhat resolved for you, at least you will be able to put aside that amount for puppy *extras* that may be needed for his medical care.

Update: got the funds refunded into my paypal account. Lokis cost of his surgery will be $3500 at its highest. They gave me a rough amount from 2500-3500.00 with my insurance and the way his plan is my total cost could have cost me roughly $550.00- this funds here will surely cover this end. (not like i needed her to do this for him to get his surgery, but this sure was a nice surprise).

With that in mind- I will drop my matters against here, and move forward with forcing my energy on his surgery, and some relax time for me.

Boy sure is work and i am exhausted..

Very very happy to hear that! You sure have done a lot in a short amount of time - no wonder you are exhausted!


And now you focus on evaluating what surgery by whom and how and when. I know you still have some un-answered questions for the doc.

And a special thanks to you for reviewing Loki's docs and all of your suggestion. Like you stated- we have some questions that need to be followed up on but for now his surgery is a go.. I want to do his surgery before his left leg goes completely lame.

On the bright side- Loki did excellent today. Limped a little less. I was/am hopeful.

Update on loki- Got refund from his breeder
working on his pre approval paperwork with Pet plan. Cant finish this process, as Lokis doc is out until Monday and he needs to sign off on the docs.

I am paying for the surgery myself, and will deal with insurance as I go. I am not worried about them, as I will take them to court if I have to. So far they have been great- so fingers crossed.

Have you looked into how you are going to keep him confined and from jumping? That is extremly important. You need to make sure you have those supply's.

Can you please give me a list of what those "supplys" are? I have a f/w with his vet on Monday and was going to ask then.. but any head start would be great.

You will need either a crate or a play pen that he can not get out of so he can not jump or run around. That is very important.

Very correct Taylor. I know for me a stroller is out because I live in a house full of stairs everywhere - the stroller would be almost useless. But a front carry harness type thingey would be ideal for me.


Also it seems with this FHO surgery they want physio done very early how-ever if that knee surgery is also a go, I am not sure how that affects the medical physio timing. With FHO they remove the neck and head of the femur and do not replace it, they want scar tissue built fast as this scar tissue and his leg muscles will be the only thing stabilizing the hip.


I think our OP is training now for his Xpen and I hope also for a crate. Better to do the battles now with your pup than later.

I have a crate and play pen. He just hates to be in it.. I will have no CHOSE but to make him us it.

When he was neutered I babied him to death. I put underwear on him, and cut a hole for his tail.. he hated it but I wouldn't allow him to lick, or touch himself. i am taking 2 weeks off of work to be there day in and out. My husband is taking 1 week after my 2 weeks, and then my 18 year old is taking a 1week after his expires.. all together we have a month to get some of his wound healed before we leave him alone by himself.

Alright we talked about crates/Xpens, Strollers and or a front carry harness. It depends about what your specialist is recommending as the Program of Care for your puppy.


Weight bearing exercises are important for the hip recovery, but usually with LP surgery Minimal Weight Bearing is very important. So you see the dis-connect here? It is just another topic of discussion for your surgeon.


I also would make sure I have some harnesses(water friendly) and a life jacket fitted to my boy. Also a leash that is water friendly. I am pretty dang sure they will recommend water therapy, and also Laser treatments for the hip and knee joints. I would have my blow dryer, my water toys, and extra leads in what I call my water bag.


For water therapy - underwater treadmill work - we usually start out with the dog in a life jacket - then progress at some point in time - to no life jacket but his harness on.


I would stock up on my home made treats so that in the first few weeks you don't have to make more treats, when you are running around to various vet appointments and physio treatments.


Let us see over time what the exercises the physio suggests, and then we can go from there to see if you need some ideas for how to do them in your home.

Callie started physical therapy 3 weeks after knee surgery. They never put the water hight enough for her to need a live vest and they use there own equipment but you can't put them in the water until all incisions are healed.

Well my physios do it differently. A water vest is a safety factor - especially for dogs that are not used to water, and or are weakened after surgery. The water height is controlled so that at first minimal weight bearing is done on healing joints. And I would never put my dog into water especially an injured dog without a life vest on.

Like I said the water is not that deep there is no swimming it is walking. Their are also three people minimum stand there.

Today I went home for lunch to check up on Loki- when i got come, he got up and was very excited to me.

But I noticed he now bunny hops.. WHY--- why he is bunny hopping.. should I make his surgery sooner than the 30th? I choose the 30th to see if I can get him to get a little bit better and I JUST AM NOT ready for this surgery. My husband thinks we should be doing it sooner, but I still have a couple of questions for the docs.

As for the other discussion on this thread about physical therapy, I can only speak to my experiences. First of all, I have never done PT with any of my pups that had knee surgery or even hip surgery unless there was some other reason for it. I had one that had multiple issues and the surgery done on his leg required extensive PT. The pups who had FHO surgery and CCL repairs recovered well and there was no need for PT at all. I followed the surgeons instructions and had no problems.

I have done PT with quite a few for other reasons. Never has there been a reason for a life vest. The PT I use has an underwater treadmill ... so clearly with one of them, the water is not high. The pups' feet must be on the treadmill so the water is only up to their tummies. They do have a leash on and they walk on the treadmill. That's how it was for us too, I have a video some where. I think maybe it was Cathy who also had a video of her dog doing it and I don't remember a life vest.

As I said in your other thread, I would get a second opinion before moving forward with all of the surgeries.

As for getting him better...that won't happen on its own. I am sure he needs surgery of some type, but I would want another opinion with so many issues being discussed.

There are pictures and videos of it all over the internet. There is absolutely no need for a life vest for that type of PT. The therapist should be right there. Where I go, there are windows where you can watch.

I have seen videos with the life jacket.. But I will let the psychical therapist tell me whats best for him.

Well we all speak from our own experiences, and mine has been as I have stated. In the beginning a life vest is worn. Then we progress to without the life vest. And I recognize there is a need that is my opinion, as you have yours.


*Shrugs* we should all recognize that medical care and the practioners of medical care will do things differently, state to state, country to country.

Perhaps you are talking about a different type of PT? I cannot imagine anyone putting a life vest on a pup in water that shallow with the pup on a leash.

I think you may be referring to what some people consider water therapy...swimming. Way different than walking on a treadmill with a bit of water for resistance

And, honestly, why in the beginning and not later? If a vest is needed, it is needed any time? No?

Maybe, but we have always and I have had more than 5 dogs do PT for one reason or another started off with the life vest even for walking in the water. First the life vest adds a bit of flotation which decreases the amount of weight bearing through the legs. And yes I have done underwater treadmill work for almost 10 yrs now.


And at some point the underwater treadmill walking will progress to swimming; they add in more water to make that happen.


I just took Dara in for physical conditioning on the underwater treadmill, she did 3 miles of walking/trotting, treadmill work, with her life vest on, and then 10 minutes of swimming - not so effective for a large dog in the small underwater treadmill equipment.


I re-iterate while I have only seen two different physios over the course of 10 years, will always put the lifevest on the dog for the first session if not more sessions. Better to be safe than sorry is my opinion.


I am sorry that my experiences do not match up to yours, I can only repeat that things can be done differently.
