Our first Yorkie Well after weeks of convincing me and promising to do the chores (kids), my wife and daughters convinced me to get another dog. We recently lost our Shepard Lab Nala after 14 years of a healthy life and my wife promised the girls we can get another dog to hang with Tiana our Maltese. So I put up a fake fight and started doing my research to find a breeder that has practically 100% positive reviews. Well combing forums and various other web sites we decided to go with an Amazing Yorkie from Deb Sillers. Don't tell the wife but I saw a picture of this cute little angle on Deb's face book page and knew that is the one we were going to get. So I just waited for the wife to stumble across the picture and I gave in and agreed to get a precious little yorkie. So on January 30th (my birthday) I will fly out and get our precious little girl. I know shipping them is safe but I am such a softy I did not want her to be scared on the plane all alone. Especially since there is no direct flights. Will keep you posted with pictures and more details when she comes home. For now I will put up the front like I am the big tuff guy....:D Nice to meet all of you!!! Glen |
How exciting! Do you have a name picked out yet for your new little girl? |
Name Yes we do Her name will be Kiera Bell (Short for Bella) Kiera was the name of the cub from Lion King (Nala and Simba's cub) where we got Nala's name from. My girls wanted the dog to be part of Nala's life. Again big softy had to go into other room to cry. Then of course agree to the name (as if I really had a choice) LOL. |
Welcome to Yorkie talk, and I hope you will share stories and pics when she comes home. How exciting.... you are so lucky to be getting one of Deb's pups! |
WELCOME TO YT! How exciting and special this will be. We love pics so please post when you can! Don't worry those of us that have been around this breed have seen many a "tuffy" succumb - your little Yorkie will have you trained and wrapped around her paw in no time:D. And of course you will be a better person for it:) Keep us updated! |

Welcome to YT. Congratulations, p.s. you are not the only tough guy here. |
Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!! Here is a picture of Tiana http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...psc7f799e4.jpg This was our beloved Nala http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b...ps89102bf2.jpg |
I think you are just wonderful! You obviously have a beautiful family and sincere congratulations are your new addition. I found Piper, my first Yorkie (had German Shepherds years ago) several months back and simply could not be happier or more in love. You'll be amazed at what your new little girl brings to your life; I was and am and will continue to be, I'm sure! "Generally, or at least very often, people with a deep interest in animals are the best people around." |
I very sorry for the loss of your Nala. What a special thing you are doing for your family! I hope Kiera is a special birthday gift for you, too. It sounds like Deb found her a special home. |

You sure love Disney names, don't you? |
Oh my gosh - what an exciting time! Congrats on your new *soon* to be addition. I love your dogs names! I am a practical kind of gal - and I think it is so absolutely right for you to fly out to pick her up! So being practical - lets talk about flying with a dog! You will need to pre-book your pups return flight with you. Some airlines have a limit on the number of dogs that can travel in cabin on any one given flight. There also will be a fee for her. I think you are in NYC and when I flew to Oregon (gawd 5 yrs ago now) it iwas $150 each way for my Yorkie. Now you will need an airline approved carrier for your gal. Look at what airline you will be flying with, and they should have the details - ie measurements n such on their website. I used a over the shoulder soft pet carrier when I flew with my Razzman. Take a couple of soft liners for your carrier - both for warmth and in case of accidents. Water - for a Yorkie - just a bottle of spring water should be enough for your trip. Food - Deb will probably give you some of the kibble she has been on - ask in advance what that is and pack with you another baggie of that kibble. In case - it is winter time and with weather who knows if your flight gets delayed. Other treats - you can cut up very small pieces of veges, very tiney amounts of cheese. Nutrical or Nutridrops - purchase some and bring it with you. Harness and Leash - bring them with you. And weepads in your luggage. I can't remember where I changed flights but there was a doggey exercise area at the airport. Check it out when you book your connecting flights. When you go through security, they will ask you to remove your pet from her carrier, and you walk through with her. Be prepared for that. I would make sure I have her medical records with me, and of course the contract of sale - Deb will of course give you all of that. I am so excited for you! Post pics as soon as you can! |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your soon to be new baby girl. |

- Try to get a window seat - with the pup under the seat in front, it's much less distracting for her than the middle or aisle - Don't fall asleep - those little buggers have a way of getting out and roaming around - happened to my sister in-law on a flight, when she was awakened by a flight attendent asking "is this your dog?" |
Congratulations on your new puppy! I went through a similar breeder search with the result of Deb being at the top of the short list as well. I'll be picking up a pair of brothers on the 29th. The picture of the litter has been my screen saver for the past month and I can't wait for the fun to begin! |

You can go to a website called Seat Guru and put in your flight info and it tells you good and bad features of every seat on every flight. Like certain seats have equipment storage things under seats, restricting usable area. Here is the link: Find Seat Maps I am so excited for you. |
Cody is the father and Caylee the mother. |
On second thought nix the doggey exercise area, what was I thinking sheesh, she won't have had all her shots yet. I just also have gone into the washroom and laid down a peepad for my pup to go on. |
