plate, pins and broken heart
 

My little Ali fell off of the couch yesterday morning while Dad was "watching" her. grrrr She broke bones in her leg and spent the day at the vet being sedated and splinted while vet contacted an orthopedic surgeon who will do surgery this morning. I am sad, sick and a little angry. I miss my baby so much, today will be another very long day. Please keep Ali in your thoughts and if you have SUCCESSFUL stories about broken leg recovery please post. I know my vet is doing the right thing for her but this is so frightening.

I am assuming this is the front leg? I have seen a few pups do very well with this surgery. The only pups I have seen not do well with fractured front legs are the ones where the vet only splints the leg There is only a 5% chance of that splint working on those bones in the front leg. Kudos to your vet for reaching out to a specialist and to you for seeing that she gets the proper care.
I am sorry .. I know how hard it is to see a pup hurting; but I think you will be surprised at how well she handles it.

Thank you for your kind words. I need to figure out a way to keep busy today. I need to take a long walk but I have to find a different route. If I run in to all of her friends I will lose it!

Jersey broke his front leg when he was 9 months old ( soon will be 6 yrs old) he had surgery, pin and plate placed. He did fine it's just feels like it takes forever the 6-8 weeks. He had a complete recovery, you would never know it happened.
Fast forward to 11/14 almost 5 years to the date , he broke his leg again!!! Still healing:)

I am so heartbroken to read this. I can only imagine how upset and worried you must feel. No matter how much we try to protect our little ones, accidents happen. I don't have any experience to share, but I am confident that, with your love and devotion to her, Ali will fully heal from her injury. I will keep both of you in my thoughts and prayers.

Oh no...how awful. I have never had an animal break a bone, but I send my best that she heals quickly. Many hugs!

I have a friend who's Biewer broke her leg. . . She is back to normal and running around. . .sending good thoughts surgery goes well

I am so sorry to hear this :cry: accidents do happen and I am sure your husband will be forever more vigilant! I hope all goes well for your sweet little baby and will look forward to the updates. I would spend this agonizing time planning for your little girls recovery (busy that worrying mind of yours) and finding information on post op expectations and tips for how to 'take it easy' during that time. Brokenhearted right along with you. I'm so sorry this happened but they will jump off furniture right before your eyes and even the closest guardian cannot stop them from doing it. Once they are up on furniture, the only way you can keep them truly safe is put a wall or something up to completely forestall them suddenly deciding to forego the doggie stairs and just suddenly jump off whatever they are on. I raised such a stink when Tibbe did it in the past, he rarely does it now but now, though it's rare, when he hears something he feels he must check out right now, off he goes and I'm the most careful Yorkie owner there is.

Try not to feel guilty or angry with DH as these little acrobats are fearless of heights, think they can defy gravity and do whatever they think they can do. They have little judgment about personal safety and are so headstrong when they think they hear a strange noise, an intruder or something they must check out now.

I'll bet the fixation heals well and before too long, she's right back to being her old self. Poor baby, I'll sure be praying for her surgery, her post op pain to be eased by her meds and that her full healing comes quickly.
