Update: Loki apt with Banfiled got canceled yesterday as his vet was in an emergency surgery. His apt is today with Dr. little is today at 5:45-

Update with Loki: he was doing better for the last couple of days, played some yesterday and back to LIMPING last night.

My goal: To have dr. little and her co partner look at him today. Walk out there with his x-ray and file, and have a referral on hand. We are done.

Other: I have been looking at ACL tears, starting to wonder if this is what Loki has???

Checked Loki for Lyme- came back negative.

I think until you know what's wrong you really need to keep him from jumping or even walking around to much or more damage could be done to whatever the issue is. I have never been thrilled or trusting of Banifield I heard from my moms friend who is a receptionist at one some pretty interesting stuff. I have also heard of just bad care and neglect and lots of deaths at Banifield.

I try my best for him not to jump. Bought some stairs, but his really quick. I would hate to leash tie him in the house.. I try to carry him upstairs. I don't want him on my bed right now, cause he will turn around and jump so fast. But then he yells and cries.

I am on banfield like there is no ones business. To be honest- they have been great with Loki- they got him in really quickly and also did x-rays right away. Prescribed him pain pills. Checked him for Lyme (when I requested) denied me no services thus far.

She wanted to wait a week just to see if he will heal, thus why she wanted me to come back in a week. I think that was reasonable, don't you? To wait a week?

Have you thought of putting him in a play pen?

I have to agree to keep your pup from jumping on and off things and no HARD playing, meaning running. If you have a crate, crate him at night, no sleeping on your bed,if he jumps off at night you will never know. As hard as it may be, you must keep him as calm as possible for his safety. I know this is tearing you apart, we have all been there and know the pain you're in. Stay strong, keep pup calm until you know what you are dealing with.

Yes, I have a plan pen. However he will just jump out of it. I am getting more stricter with him. Hard for me to do, as I have never stopped/denied him anything. He might think he did something wrong.

They have some on amazon with tops. It's about keeping him safe. If say it is an ACL tear and it needs to be repaired he will have to stay in one for 8 weeks so in my opinion it's better to keep him from making things worse and it can start to get him use to it.

ACL it could be, but it is usually easily identified through palpation and the vet does something called an anterior drawer test as well as a posterior one.


I do agree with all the others - playpen try covering it with a blanket and see if that will stop him jumping out. Also it is a good idea to get your dog used to either a crate (for car travel) and or a playpen.


The other thing you could think about is a front carry harness for your pup.


And I am afaird he does need to be leashed when on walks as you do not want him running and playing on this leg.

Yes- I fear his doc didn't check him for that.. urgh. I have been research on my OWN.

I will be taking some time off of work to better deal with this issue. I need to get this matter handled with.

Yup, I feel your pain. Ali has a very tall expen, she can't jump out but she tries and I feel like even the "trying" could hurt her? We hold her on a very short leash if she is in our lap or we put her in the crate. She HATES the crate but she is getting more used to it. I put her in it when I am cooking or eating and I set her at a level where she can watch. I know she feels punished too.

This is a lot of work!

Oh to expand on my blanket idea - if you have clothespegs try tieing down the blanket to the sides of the pen - if that is possible.

Sometimes lymes test can be negative but they can actually have lymes. It's really confusing, but they're not 100%, I recall my vet telling me that. So even if Jackson had come up negative for lymes, it still could've been that. The round of doxycycline was what helped him. My moms old dog used to limp sporadically and she tested pos for lymes twice and then negative a few other times but she always had it, and my parents weren't very proactive so they just never did anything about it. I'm sorry, it's got to be frustrating not being able to pinpoint the problem. :(

just checking in to see how Loki is doing a what the vet said and I see that you haven't really gotten an answer yet. Hopefully you will know something soon. I totally agree that Loki should be confined. No running or jumping. Sometimes a mom just has to do what she has to do. You might feel bad about it now but if it keeps him from further injury then it'll all be worth it. There are really nice, tall, escape free X-Pens on the net for decent prices. Any time any of my dogs learn how to escape then it's time for something different! Thanks for keeping us in the loop and best wishes to Loki for a speedy recovery!

Update on loki: I am now being refereed to Cascade Veterinary referral center. They got a pretty good rating so I am hopeful they can help us. Banfiled docs were not able to help us..

whats interesting is this : Loki favors his back left foot, yet the pain (which the doctor indicates) is on his right side- I noticed when she touches his limping leg- he allows her to pull, and touch, but when he touches his right side they are not able to.

This is way confusing.. Any suggestions? Loki has a 8:30am apt this Thursday, and I pray we can find out.
