eating I just got a 5 week old yorkie all he wants to eat is yogart and karo ground up some puppy chow he wont eat that. Guess they can live on karo and yogart. |
Have you tried canned. Try Lil caesars I havent seen a yorkie refuse that its junk food like mcdonalds but its tasty to them |
no i havent that is what the breeder told us if he dont eat the dry will go get some when stores open |
My Cassie was just 6 weeks when she had to leave her mama....she was the runt and stopped thriving. We did puppy food soaked in milk replacer for the first two weeks....I know someone more knowledgeable will be along soon! Merry Christmas! |
My little girl will eat very little dry food. I hate that so I make sure to clean her teeth and give her dental sticks. The only food I have found that she will eat when she is hungry is Lil Caesars. I know it is not the best for your dog but what do you do they have to eat something. I have been told to just put down her dry and when she is hungry she will eat. She went 5 days without eating much of anything so Caesars it is. She likes only the Savory Delights Pork Tenderloin and the Rosemary Chicken. Believe me I have tried all different types of dry without much success. Good Luck! |
Can I ask why this young pup isn't still with the Mom? There is a great need for them to stay w/ their Mom and litter until 12 weeks old, preferably. At 5 weeks, this pup is extremely vulnerable to SO many dangers - I can't even express the extent of it. Of great importance right now is that this pup receives very good nutrition - which it's not getting. I'll see if we can get some breeders on here to help w/ puppy gruel or something. |
Is there any way this puppy can go back to the breeder and mom for a few more weeks? I can't even imagine a yorkie ouppy being weaned at 5 weeks. My last two litters, my puppies didn't even become interested in eating anythjng until almost 5 weeks old and were not weaned completely until closer to 10 weeks. Please stop giving your puppy karo syrup. There is no reason to give karo or nutrical unless you suspect your puppy has low blood sugar. By giving your puppy karo constantly, you are causing the blood sugar to spike and then crash, spike and then crash. This can also cause long term blood sugar issues if you aren't careful. It should only be given if you see signs of low blood sugar and then need to get some food in their system within 15 minutes afterward. If you can't return the puppy, grind up puppy food and mix with water or a little puppy formula. Or mix a good quality puppy canned food with water. Syringe feed if necessary. |
Royal Canin puppy mousse. Also serve the food more room temperature or even heated a little. Feed small tblsp amounts 4-5 times per day. Keep puppy out of drafts and very warm. You can even feed puppy holding the puppy onto your chest. A thick pudding type consistency for the food as at that age they are barely learning to chew! You can let the puppy nibble on your finger that you have dipped in their food. Your puppy is still very much a baby! We don't even let large breed pups go at 5wks old!!! Try carrying the puppy around with you in a sling like papoose. Your warmth and your heartbeat will be very comforting for the puppy! When I bring young pups into my home, I sleep on an air mattress rright beside their crate. And these pups are much older than yours. This way I am right close by, and if necessary can cradle a stressed puppy at night. |
This puppy is not even properly weaned....it does not even know HOW to pick up a mouthful of food, chew and swallow....it is still essentially sucking and starting to lick. Put the gruel you make up of RC puppy mousse mixed in with a little puppy formula to make it more liquid, on a flat lid so the baby can LICK this up. Progress to a less liquid state in a week or so, more pudding consistancy...by 7-8 weeks old, baby should be able to eat the mousse, which is a whipped consistancy and easily digested by immature puppies.....you can start with it on the end of your finger, letting baby lick it off. You REALLY need to be getting a puppy milk formula mixed in somewhere....or even just in a really shallow dish or lid, letting baby lap it up. Warm it up, test it on your wrist to make sure it isnt too hot. All my babies are getting a warm formula at night before bedtime, as well as several times during the day. |
yes i grind it up it is eating a little dry food and feeding it tablespoon of yogart 3 times a day. We only give it karo once in morning and once at night 1cc |

Please don't feed your puppy Cesar. I first fed mine that as a supplement to dry food, because that was what the breeder recommended. He got so sick one day (vomiting) and the vet said his little tummy couldn't handle the rich food, which he equated to chocolate cake. If I ever give wet food now it's Blue Buffalo or Merrick. Have you looked at the ingredients in Cesar? It's pretty gross. |
well we are going to the vet for a checkup at 4:30 see what they say. Thanks for the info |
went to the vet he said everything is great and told him what i was feeding him he asked what kind of dog food told him eukanauba about 2 tablespoons he said that was good. He wouldnt eat the puppy chow got him some eukanauba he will eat that. |
If you give him karo you have to have him eat protein right away or he will get low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) that can lead to seizures that can then lead to death. The food needs to be ground up or at least soaked in hot water for a few minutes before giving it to him. If all else fails boil chicken and give it to him. If non of that works you will need to get him to the vet to learn how to force feed. This pup is far to young to be from his mother and if you leave him alone for any amount of time you risk coming back to a dead puppy. I can't tell if you are in the US but if you are for the sake of all other puppies from this person please please report this breeder to your animal control. I emphasize that for several weeks he does not and should not be left alone. I hope he makes it. |
