Who exactly is this Texas breeder that illegally sold this baby to you, and then instructs you to feed it 3 times a day? If your vet is not familiar with the laws in the State of Texas when it comes to selling puppies, well, it just would concern me with other areas of knowledge he may not be right up to date on......especially feeding a growing puppy 3 times a day???......but hey, congratulations on your puppy.....I strongly suggest you invest in 2 books that are chock full of priceless information about Yorkies...."Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide"....both are available on Amazon.com.........Perhaps reading these two excellent sources of information will help you provide for this baby. |

Op, PLEASE I beg you, take it from me. I had a little one. They need extra care. Take the pup back to the vet and ask them for a nutritional supplement. It's wet food super rich in calories and nutrients. At that young age all the organs are STILL developing. And if the diet is poor they will not develop correctly. This is just setting that dog up to develop problems as it grows, and heartbreak for everyone involved. My little one was NOT the runt of her litter. She just had problems developing as time went on. I gave karo syrup just to buy me some time to follow up with PROPER nutrition and a trip to the vet. It's not a fix-it-all syrup. It didn't save my dog's life. Sure, the karo syrup bought me time to drive hysterically to the ER vet at 2am, but even after emergency fluids and glucose dripping into her system, the damage was done. She still died, from a severe hypoglycemia episode. When their blood sugar is low they can go into a coma. Their brain is starved of oxygen. This is what happened to Rosie. She had genetic diseases that were worsened when her brain suffered during that low blood sugar attack. If you're not prepared to get up in the middle of the night to check on that puppy, you should consider the consequences. It could die in the night. You say it didn't cry at all...at a low blood glucose state, they may be TOO WEAK TO EVEN CRY OUT. Consider that. Don't just assume the pup is fine. Lift its lips up and check the color of the gums. If they are pale you need to syringe water into the mouth and force it to eat. Real food. Not yogurt. I did all I could to save my dog and it wasn't good enough. It still haunts me. You are setting yourself up for heartbreak with the way things are going right now. I'm praying for this puppy. My fiancés family lives in Nederland (very very close by) and I am currently there in town for the holidays. if you need help please let me know. I just want to help the puppy. |

If I had a 5 week old puppy that was not eating and a vet told me not to worry, I would find another vet for a 2nd opinion, but that is me. My puppies are my babies. If it was a human baby and a Dr, told me not worry that baby is not eating as much as a 5 week old baby should be, I would be offfor a 2nd opinion. Dogs are living breathing critters, and should be treated as a human is, but then again this is how I think. Texas law is "if licensed" breeder, puppy cannot be sold under 8 weeks old.(read that link #21 again it is there in black and white) BYB do not follow any law other then the law of their pockets. You were advised to report the breeder because, just look at what you are going through because this is a 5 week old baby that should never have been taken from it's mother. You have this puppy, I am sure you were not aware of the dangers a 5 week old baby can face. Not your fault, the breeder was selling, you bought the puppy, now the survival of this little innocent critter is in your hands. If you love this little baby, please see another vet for a 2nd opinion about it's eating issues. We are all trying to help this little baby and you. |
