American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory Do a search for conformation clubs and specialty clubs in your area. Find the puppy referral person listed for the club. I do not recommend you use the AKC classified ads since anyone with an AKC litter registration slip can sell puppies there, including puppy mills. All show/breeders sell pet puppies and they sell them for far less than most of the online scammers. Sometimes you may need to get on a wait list but it is worth it if you have found the right breeder. If at all possible go to the breeders home to see the kind of conditions these dogs are raised under. A good breeder will be more than happy to show you their home and pups. Run away from anyone that wants to meet you somewhere with puppies. That is another scam tactic. Over the years we have driven hundreds of miles to get a pup from breeders with wonderful reputations and have been rewarded with quality furry friends that were members of our family for many years. | ![]() I was afraid of that. That is so sad. Some of these people start breeding their girls at the first heat! They are still babies themselves. That's like forcing a 12 year old human girl to pump out babies, and as soon as she has her baby, get her pregnant again. Some dogs are so young when they have the pups that they freak out bc they don't have the maturity/mentality or it could be hormones and the science behind it, but they don't know what the heck just happened to them and kill the babies.
