Potential Rescue Purchase - Thoughts? 1 Attachment(s) I've been searching rescue, shelter and humane society web sites intermittently for a while now looking for a little buddy for our 5 pound 11-13 yo yorkie. I've found a candidate! We're in the middle of arranging a meeting to see the dog and introduce "him" to Gucci, also a male. The rescue has provided only a few details so far. I hope to find out more details later today, Fri. I'll brush up on some of the applicable stickies here at YT prior to the visit. Keeping my expectations grounded since it is not a for sure thing. The $500 rescue fee seems a bit much but I do understand it supports care and medical for other rescues they care for. Here's a picture just to wet your whistle. |
Since I have the one picture, how much yorkie do you "guess" he has? He is listed at a year and a half yrs old. I do not have his weight or really any other details. Thanks for any opinions! |
He looks more Yorkie than not to me but what, if anything, he's mixed with..? I couldn't say, sorry. He's cute, though!!! I love his tail. Teddy's tail kinda looks similar but with plumage... Very cute face. |
Oh, NO reason at all to apologize..... Thanks! :) |
He's adorable, yorkie yes, mix yes, but sure is a little cutie. I'm not good at guesstimating mixes. Hope things work out with Gucci's meet & greet. |
Very cute. I love his tail. It's hard to tell how much yorkie is there. The facial hair cut throws me off. I hope Gucci approves. |
WOW...what an absolute DOLL he is, seriously! The face, the ears, the tail...love it all. His ears are like little poofs! So tough to tell if he's all yorkie or not, but he certainly does have a lot of yorkie in him. I too think $500 is pretty steep...do you think it's bc he had med probs they had to pay for/deal with...? |
I actually paid a 500.00 re-homing fee for my current little Yorkie. Trust me it was definitely worth it. She was 2.5 years old and weigh 6 lbs when I got her. She is healthy, happy, crazy, energetic, stubborn, gorgeous, cute, funny, socialized and very lovable. Her previous owners too excellent care of her. Did I say she was worth it? The people who I paid the 500.00 to probably don't have that money anymore but I still have Dutch and hopefully I will have her for many years to come. At the time I paid for her, I could afford her. Money isn't everything and spending 500.00 on her was the best money I ever spent. By the way, Dutch has a tail too! I'm starting to see a lot of yorkies with tail or maybe I am just paying more attention now that I have a yorkie with a tail. |
Such a sweet little face with so much expression!! I think he looks a lot like yorkies. I hope all works out for him especially with Gucci. It would be great! The times we have brought another yorkie home our little ones seem to except the little stranger in a short time with some occasional pouts.:) but they quickly became family. |
Our fees are anywhere up to $600. One of the other national groups is the same as ours. There is one that sometimes charges up to $3,000 (yes, I have actually seen that). If a rescue is fully vetting and taking care of all presenting medical issues on their foster pups, the adoption fees rarely will cover the cost of vetting. To see an explanation of YHR's fees, here is a link. It might help to understand the fees of this group you are referring to. Yorkie Haven Rescue Adoption Fees |

Adorable. Looks like a whole lotta yorkie too me. |
Adorbs! But yes, the younger the dog, the higher the fee, even if there isn't a lot of costs as far as vetting is concerned. Keeps the flood gates from opening. Most people want to "rescue" a female yorkie, under 5 pounds, and less than 3years old, with no medical or emotional issues. Lily was one of my fosters. She was barely 2 yrs old, almost 4 lbs, cottony teddy bear coat, with the cutest button nose. Her adoption fee was $500, and that was a lot for our rescue. She needed no additional procedures; already spayed, teeth fine, UTD on shots. But she did have emotional stress from young children. Large scar on her back under all that hair. :( |

Thanks everyone! He's sleeping in my lap now. I'll post pictures in the next day or two. So far, he's getting along great with Gucci(most important), works on a leash well on a walk, doesn't come when called at all, he's a beggar in the kitchen, follows us around when ever we move(but still doesn't come closer when called), we'll work on bonding and building trust in the home and double up on the walks for a few days, 3 miles with Gucci, 3 miles without. Short history: he's a stray dog from rural SE Idaho. We're not 100% sure what he is but he sure is cute! There's yorkie and gotta be something else, 9 1/2 pounds. His ad at petfinder: ABOUT SPARKY ********* Sparky has had an overwhelming amount of inquiries. ************ Too many for us to even respond to and send applications for. We will be emailing people who have responded as of 11/26. Please take a look at Sandy and Sammy who came into rescue with Sparky. Thank you!! Sparky is a 1.5 year old Yorkie. He is a tiny little one. Sparky is looking for his new forever home. Sparky is neutered, up to date on his vaccinations, rabies, worming and is heart worm negative. Please email us for an adoption application if you'd like to meet Sparky. https://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/30881522 |
He is a cutie! |
Congrats Mark on your new addition! He is a handsome fella. It could be that Sparky doesn't know his name yet, do you know if this was his *actual* name or did the rescue rename him? I once fostered a dog that had been at the SPCA for six months they had re-named him Vlad, but he did not know his name:confused: Did you get all his vet records from the rescue? If not, give them a call and ask for them. He must have some sturdy bones under him to weigh 9.5 lbs, as he looks very compact and somewhat *shortish* in the picture they posted. And sturdy bones are a good thing in my mind. I wish you much joy and love with your Sparky! |
Congrats and he is adorable! |
Congratulations on your lil boy, So happy you found your prefect lil buddy for you and Gucci. He us just just the cutest. Please keep us updated of his new life with his new family and big brother, just awesome. |

He was a rural, farm country, stray from south central Idaho. 3 small dogs were living in a pile of pallet boards, local workers fed them but the dogs never came within reach, the rescue captured them, held them for 2-3 months, resocialized and cleaned them up, Sparky(now Zippy) was one of those 3. I have some pictures related to that, I'll attach a few. So yes, he doesn't know his name because it is new to him... I'm renaming him Zippy since he had little connection to Sparky. He responds to verbal whistling and clicks. I do have the records, various shots, rabies, distemper, heart worm test neg, neuter incision is still healing and needs to be watched(kept clean) closely. A blood work was not done. He's active, occasionally zipping from here to there, house trained, good personality, teeth looked good. We've only had him about 18 hours, he's already slept at my feet, in my lap, alongside me in the big comfy chair and on the bed. files are too big for the photos from the rescue, I'll have some of my own by tomorrow to share: 10682164_733396830067390_2478421857974666032_o.jpg : Your file of 570.9 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 200.0 KB for this filetype. 1899768_746990938707979_3219323649775798238_o.jpg: Your file of 252.4 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 200.0 KB for this filetype. 10682164_733396830067390_2478421857974666032_o.jpg : Your file of 570.9 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 200.0 KB for this filetype. 10688002_733395190067554_7004489249742089210_o.jpg : Your file of 491.9 KB bytes exceeds the forum's limit of 200.0 KB for this filetype. |
Congratulations! Zippy is absolutely adorable. I would guess he is Yorkie/Pomeranian mix. |
Such a cutie. Congratulations! |
He is very cute. Love his hair. You can always get a DNA done. I paid $500 for my maltese rescue. What a great dog he is- much nicer than the little terror, Zoey, ruler of the house. |
4 Attachment(s) We just finished up our first 24 hours with Zippy, everything has gone well. It'll be even better when he gets receptive of a name, LOL, any name. He was awesome on today's walk, except, a bicycle did startle him. It'll be at least a week before he's allowed off leash on the walks. He's got a great attitude/disposition, while walking the trails and sidewalks he kept very alert and usually stayed out front where I want him to be on the narrow trails. |
4 Attachment(s) He does have a lighter colored face but it's not white as it appears in these photos. |
3 Attachment(s) 3 more...:D |
