It was very short, 1-2 seconds, even at 5 pounds, Gucci let him know who was boss. My better half reported that Gucci, the old guy, was merely joining Zippy on a blanket to lay down and Zippy, the new guy, nipped or growled, Gucci and Mamma let Zippy know that was unacceptable behavior. Gucci has this ear piercing snarl that would scare a grizzly bear into thinking he was much bigger. It's almost like Gucci told him, "all right, I can't bite you but I can burst your ear drums!" LOL Gucci stalked Zippy for the next hour, I think Zippy got the message. :)

Lol that is too funny. It must have been a sight to see. My Rocky has one of those high pitched ear piercing squeals as well. You gotta love them.:)

Zippy is a handsome boy!

We have a Pom and 2 Yorkies. Our Yorkies spin, our Pom does not. Our pom is super obedient and compliant the Yorkies, are....not so much;) I love all three of my kiddos so very much. I feel like you may have the best of both worlds! Congrats!

Aw congrats! Zippy is adorable! It usually takes a month or so for them to work things out, sounds like the 2 boys are getting along great! Congrats and thank you for rescuing :D

Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. The two boys are doing well. There are a lot fewer dull moments around here. LOL Gucci positions himself close to Zippy quite often, really doesn't look aggressive or territorial, looks like the old guy is trying to be friendly with the new guy. Zippy is a very happy pup with his people but, for the most part, ignores Gucci. Gucci sits on him, Zippy growels, Gucci ignores the growel. Just guessing it'll be about a week longer before the old guy is sleeping in the same dog bed as Zippy.

Zippy is coming when called in the house now most of the time and he's doing excellent on our walks. He just loves being outside regardless of the weather. Things are just getting better!

Yes, Gucci initiates all the interaction between the two, always positive, inquisitive, and then, he either sits next to Zippy or right on top of him. Zippy doesn't quite appreciate the attention. :eek:

So happy to hear your boys are doing well. They seem like such interesting little characters and both such great companions. Oh, and just as cute as can be!

They're not quite sleeping together just yet. I think with Gucci's persistence, we may get there though. It seems odd to me that the much older, 1/2 the weight, longer term resident dog is more accepting of the two. Zippy, our new addition, has no interest in Gucci. Zippy is very focused on his "people" though and he has the sweetest disposition with us. LOL it's like he tolerates Gucci sitting on him because in the two tiffs they have had, Gucci was the clear winner! LOL I don't know how that happened! LOL

The last tiff, Gucci somehow had himself attached to Zippy. Zippy, trying to get away from the little devil, drug Gucci down the hall way. I turned around just in time to see Gucci's rear legs sliding on the carpet. It was very apparent, Gucci won the battle though and was very proud to have done so. Zippy recovered quickly but remains cautious of Gucci. It's like the best we could have hoped for, that the 5 pounder established dominance over the 10 pounder "ONLY WHEN" the 10 pounder makes a fuss about being sat on or next to by Gucci. Gucci remains very positively interested in the new guy. Never showing any aggression unless first acted upon negatively by Zippy. :thumbup: Dominance, sure, by sitting on him.... but it's passive...non violent or vocal unless Zippy protests.

PS... Due to Gucci's shortage of good teeth and jaw strength, there is no way that Gucci could hurt Zippy.
