Too cold No more outside for my baby. Made a sweater for boo bit to cold one romp out side tonight and he slowed down quick . Got him in house under my hot electric blanket quick. No more for him diaper belts and potty pads unless it warmer. Wonder if i will loose ground now with training him to go outside. Hes good to go but wants to wander and play forever. Cant do that in the winter. My pap goes out quick. |
Mine go out to go potty in the winter but they dont get walks which they miss |
It was 11 out with bad wind chills below zero. He likes to wander sniff even run and play with my papilon just to cold for him to stay out. Hes not happy with his band. But cant have him weeing on the carpet. |

I'm in Michigan, ZoE has already been outside twice today and will probably go out once more before days end, even though she is indoor potty pad trained. I let her outside a few times so she can really run around and stretch her legs. |
Lexi is only 5 pounds and she goes out in the cold. It was also 11 and windy out last night, but she will go out just long enough to do her business and then right back in. She doesn't even wear a sweater (she hates all clothes). This will be her first winter so not sure how she will be in the snow, but so far she if fine with the extreme cold. It's not like she is out there for long, they can handle it for a small amount of time. |
Piper takes advantage of going outside (to do her business) by intently sniffing the air--during which time if I'm so ill-mannered as to speak, she gives me an exasperated sidelong glance--can't I see she's garnering important information, for pete's sake?! Or she must absolutely find at least one of the dozen or so bones she buried--and that takes time, too. However, the last couple of mornings (in low 20's) has resulted in one motivated, quick out and quicker in little gal! Piper wears a sweater when we go shopping and is so comfortable, she actually continues to wear it inside after trip to store! She, too, simply needs to get outside daily no matter the conditions! |
They make warm coats and and even little boots if you're worried about him getting too cold. I would like to get them for mine but I have 6 dogs and it's too much to dress everybody several times a day so everybody has just learned to do their business quick and come right back in. I did have an old guy that I recently had to have put to sleep and I didn't make him go out last winter because he was so old and sick but otherwise everybody does fine and I live in Ohio too. |

Colder weather sucks, but especially if he is okay with it, and tolerating it, why wouldn't you let him keep going outside? We just got a pup (my family did) and she is barely 5lbs and while she sometimes shivers at first, she's fine. Today was freezing in MD! |
I'm in Manitoba and we've had winter thrust upon us :p We're up to about 3" of snow and the windchill this morning was -20c. Bit of a shock to poor little Dexter! We discovered back when it started to get colder in the fall, Dex was pretty shivery the first couple of outings, but he seemed to adapt. Now that we're beginning the next season, he's balking again at going outside, but we've been bundling him up (flannel pj's under a down jacket, haven't been able to find boots in his size yet) and taking him for several short walks a day. I'm trying to make it fun and positive each time, and each walk he's becoming a little more enthusiastic. Plus he's managing to 'take care of business' while we're out. He's still shooting me little 'WTF Mum, this stuff is COLD' looks, but he seems to be adapting :) We're trying to problem solve how we'll cope during the REAL cold snaps of -40 and below...I'd be ok with a pee pad corner, but the little stinker thinks those are chew toys :p |

Good video, thanks for that. That's pretty much exactly what I'm trying to do with Dex. Love the booties! I need a pattern or website that isn't sold out of miniscule yorkie sized footwear :> |
I croceteed a double layer sweater but think its letting to much air in so shopping i will go for booties and a better winter coat. I loved the video and i will try it. He begged to go out today felt bad. But did not want him to get to cold. He was shivering. My husband tried this morning and he just came back to the door to get in. Again he was shivering. My papilon goes out does her business and back in. Boo is a looker . Sigh |

Yes, the wind was bitterly cold today! I knitted ZoE a double thick cream sweater coat. I love it, but she doesn't care for it because it's so heavy. She must prefers hoodies and polyfill winter coats, that are lighter. |
