Wireless Fence 1 Attachment(s) Hi friends... I just moved and got a big beautiful house with a yard. My babies both girls 4 yr old yorkie and 1 year old love to play and run. However I don't have a fence, so they run to the front of the house, neighbors house (they craw under their fence). So I was thinking about this option but I am afraid it will hurt them. Does anyone have one, are they good? How do they work and is it worth the money. I want them safe so on the patio were there is no grass I have a small fence to keep them outside but not running around. At night there is little light so if they get out to poop I barely see them. Do we have other options? Also on the barking.... THe little one barks constantly all the time or any reason. Are there Meds or natural things I can give her to calm her?. 630 am barks outside when I let her out of the crate. I don't want to get rid of her but she is too much...help |
I am not a fan of wireless fences. They do nothing to protect your little ones as they will not keep other animals out. What I did was purchase a chainlink kennel (check Home Depot or Tractor Supply) and I let the dogs potty in there. (My back yard is fenced, but I do not let my dogs out there unsupervised) As small as your dogs are, the kennel set up I have should give them plenty of run to romp and play (and, it contains the poo to the kennel - no searching the whole yard for it lol). I rigged up several panels and made my kennel 12ft by 24ft. It's 6 ft tall and I have covered it with wire fencing and a fabric sunscreen because we have hawks here. I know it's not cheap, but, it's worth it to keep your babies safe. Tractor Supply has the better looking/better quality kennels, but they are a bit pricey. On the other hand, they last for decades and are portable. Awkward, but portable. |
Yes they will hurt your dog. The shock hurt and it can do damage to there heart and other things. If they are not in a secure fence they should be going out only on leashes. Wireless fences and letting them run free with no fence can make it easy for people to steal them, for them to get hit by cars, for other animals to attack them and for them to get lost. What you need to do is train her not to bark if you can't do it or don't know how try a trainer. |
What I used was 4 foot high lattice and 4x4 post and post holders same idea as BorderKelpie kennel but a lot cheaper and very attractive looking. Mine was 8 X 24 and was right off my deck, open back door, 2 steps down deck into potty area. I strung tiny Christmas icicle lights on mine for light. Elec. fence will not keep other dogs out. I had to get up for work at 2AM, I let both my dogs out, my older one would bark her head off, (at 2AM) I wasn't happy about it, but, I would never think to get rid of her for barking. Someone just suggested "the bark genie" to control barking. Buy it on amazon.com, it's not natural, but I would try that then even think of getting rid of such a beautiful lil baby like you have. |
Wireless fences are made for larger dogs. They never had tiny dogs in mind for their design. It is a large current of electricity that goes into the dog during training. Certainly not for a little dog. There is also a lot of training that goes into teaching a dog how to use a wireless fence. It sounds like you are having a hard time training your dogs to begin with, adding having to train all of them for such a fence would be tons of work and in the end could harm your babies. There is a good thread here on YT about training your dog not to bark. I will see if I can find the link to it if someone else has not already done so. Proper training methods are much more effective than short cuts like wireless fences and medications. Can you take your dogs out for walks rather than letting them run loose? |
Teresa Ford has a longer explanation of how to deal with barking problems but for now here is a thread with her abbreviated instructions. You will see Teresa's instructions on the 10th and 12th post. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...p-barking.html Any problem that entails training as the solution may seem impossible when you start, especially when it has gone on for a while. The hardest part, really is training yourself to be consistent in your methods and never lose patience. Almost all training of dogs first involves the training of the owner. |
Here is the thread of Teresa's that I was originally looking for: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...h-barking.html Much more information here. |
