Teddy doesn't look very Yorkie to me! 2 Attachment(s) And I can't help that I think that! I know he is but he's so not typical of the breed and I'm so annoyed cuz I bought from a CRUFTS breeder but I got no element of standardization in Teddy! He wasn't cheap either, I mean, he wasn't the most expensive dog ever at £600 or $1,000 but I expected him to look more like a Yorkie than he does. His fur is so cottony and almost white in places and black in others. I assume this is because of the texture but I don't know?? What do you guys think? How is he going to end up? His mom was very pale gold and silver and his dad was darker body and a copper face. His great grandpa (lol at the thought of dogs having grandparents) is Ozmilion Mystification but you wouldn't know that looking at him. I do love him but I am sad that he hasn't turned out how I expected ie silky coat, pretty colors etc. He'll be a year old in a couple of weeks. Someone experienced tell me what you think about the above, please! Does anyone have a Yorkie who looks like this? Will his colors change or is he my gray man forever? Which is fine, he gets a lot of compliments..! |
He looks exactly like my precious Barkley, who we lost two years ago at the age of 12. He was called a silver and blue Yorkie and yes he had a cottony coat. His mother was silver and blue as was his dad. The cottony coat was a bit hard to comb so after a few years we just kept him cut short. It made life easier for both of us. If I wasn't technically challenged I would post his picture. The picture of Teddy brought back memories of our Barkley. |
He looks all Yorkie to me, Joey was silver as a young pup and his hair is great, it's very silky, I didn't realize how wonderful it was until I got another little darling with a cotton coat, it really is so much harder to care for, that wouldn't be so bad, but you do end up hurting them sometimes, no matter how careful you are and I HATE that. The perfect coat is said to be one of the most difficult to obtain in the dog world, not only the perfect silkiness, but a dark blue saddle and a golden head. Some breeders introduce black coats in, to darken the saddle, but then this often adds a cottony texture. I've always heard that if they have a white head as a pup, they are more likely to have a silky coat, your Teddy is still young, so it will change a lot in the next year. Nearly all puppies have a more cottony coat with tangling. Silky coats grow slower than cotton coats, is his coat slow growing or fast growing? |
Teddy is such a little dolbaby!!!!! And he looks like one of the very many Yorkie "looks" we see in the breed, especially the last 20 years or so. Maybe there were always so many variations and I just wasn't aware of it as Yorkies used to be pretty rare here until about 20 years ago but at first, they mostly seemed to all look more alike than they do now. I had never seen any teapot Yorkies as far as I know until I joined YT and never any chocolates or parti's or blonde/white ones. The ones I ran across early on were mostly tan and silver/blue/gray and all pretty much 3 - 7 pounds. And I went all over the Metroplex and beyond for looking at Yorkies before getting Jilly. If you Google Image Yorkie and Yorkshire Terrier and just look at all the different Yorkie looks from people's pictures and just keep on asking for more images at the bottom of the page, you can see how many looks there are for Yorkies these days. I don't remember there being that much variety in the looks and sizes when I first got my Scotty and then Jilly. And now, some Yorkie change so much through his or her lifetime depending on their hair color stage and their state of grooming that sometimes they don't even look like the same dog 4 years later. My Tibbe has a bit of a cottony coat that causes him to look fluffy and messy though it rarely ever has mats but the color changes of his head, face and body hair have been amazing to watch over the years. When I first got him at age 9 mos., his head was tan with some black between his eyes and his body all black. As he got older, he was almost white-headed for a time and he lost the black between his eyes and his body began to turn blue then gray, which kept lightening in tone. Now, every summer, his body hair is bleached by the sun to very light blonde-to-white-looking half way to the ends with dark blue roots while his head and face, now free of all black, stays totally clear tan/blonde and never bleaches out lighter at all, even on top. My late Scotty and Jilly, who had harder, silkier coats, didn't have such drastic color changes as Tibbe though both did have periods of almost white heads and Jilly had a bit of black between her eyes for a time before each head and face turned totally clear tan, though Jilly's was more of a blonde shade later in life. |
Teddy is an absolutely adorable Yorkie, and looks very much like many many Yorkies that members here have that are on the lighter side. My Tiki's coloring is on the lighter side too, and in her first year her head almost looked white at time. It is now a creamy blonde, and the hair on her back darkened slightly around 2 years old and became more silky. So the color and even the texture will evolve over 2 years. You might have hoped for a pup with deeper colors, more gold on head and legs, but the lighter ones are beautiful as well. He definitely has the Yorkie look to me, especially with that cute face and perky ears. |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=133853 Your darling looks more Yorkie than Pippi does. She is also registered with the Kennel club. Has a cotton coat (which is a shame, as I wanted a long coat), long legs, a bit poodle looking. So much so, we thought about getting a DNA test done. I'd be mad if we were cheated. Not because of 'who' she is, but because we paid for pure Yorkie. Pip is so cuddly, so sweet. She's our oddsock and we are fine with that. I love her to bits. From your pic, he looks all Yorkie. Pretty cute too. I do understand the niggling feeling, of doubt though, as we have it too. |
Teddy looks Yorkie to me. He is absolutely adorable. |
You got yourself a cute lil yorkie right there! He's very handsome, too! |
How old is he? I thought all yorkies turned a little white/silver as they were going through the transformation of puppy to adult coat? Well... Not all yorkies I guess. My Kaji is now 6 years old and his colors are not done changing. He still has some darker fur on his ears and face. He's so much lighter (gold) than he was 5 years ago when I got him, but still... He's taking his sweet time getting there. If Teddy is still young, he might be in that weird "ugly duckling" phase? His coat may still change a little too. Kaji has a thick, kinky/curly, unrully true soft coat (or cotton coat). Teddy's coat looks so silky compared to Kaji's coat. |
He is adorable and looks all yorkie to me too. Maybe it is the color that is throwing you off. But I am pretty sure he is all Yorkie, |
2 Attachment(s) Here's a picture of Joey as a pup and later when his hair changed. |
Looks Yorkie to me. One thing about getting puppies is you never really know how there going to turn out. But he sure is cute! |
Teddy is cute to me. Im sure if you went to a good breeder your expectations were high and they should be. He is still a puppy and will do alot more changing too though |
He's not a yorkie! I suggest you send him to me and get yourself another one! He's a beautiful little boy. He looks just like my Bubba as a puppy. His head turned almost white, then the gold started coming in. Bubba has a cotton coat, steel colored with gold head, ears and legs. |
He does look very much 100% Yorkie to me |
