Pros and Cons I am looking for a new yorkie puppy. We lost our princess last week to liver disease. She was female and what an attitude. My question is what is the difference between the two besides sex. Are males just as cuddly as females. We have been thinking about a male so as not to compare a new dog with our old one. The house just isn't the same without the company of a furry friend. Also what do the initials apri , alaa , uabr mean? While researching indianapuppiesforsale.com these initials come up where it also says if they are akc , ckc. Has anybody out there used this website for a puppy? I am looking for a good breeder. any help would be appreciated. |
Hi - welcome to YT :). I have 2 boys and 1 girl and I'd say the boys are more affectionate - and I've heard this from many other people as well. The boys are a bit more cuddly, especially my Marcel who could be held/cuddled all day long! It's not that my girl isn't affectionate, but it's more on her terms/when she feels like it. As far as the breeder you're looking at - that looks like a Puppy Mill to me, so I'd stay far far away from that one. |
Ive had 2 females and 1 male. Both of my females were more cuddly, but my male was a weird little guy lol. Most people say the males are more cuddly....I think it really comes down to the personality of each dog. My boyfriend's Chinese Crested male is super cuddly, as is my female poodle mix. My female papillon is another weird little dog and not as cuddly lol (she will cuddle for a bit but prefers her own space and doesn't like being picked up) |

AKC and UKC are thought to be the most reputable registries in the States. Do a google search on the other initials. CKC can mean either Continental Kennel Club or Canadian Kennel Club. The Continental one does not have a good rep, but the Canadian has a very good reputation. I think you need to determine first what a good breeder means to you. In our library we have a very good article on How to Find a Reputable Breeder. Good Luck with your search. |
I've only had five female Yorkies, but I hear males are more cuddly. My little girls have been cuddly, too, and each one had/has a different personality with unique strengths that I loved about each of them. Katie is a love bug, yet she is also independent, and I love every bit about her. There are things about Katie that remind me of my Rainbow Bridge babies, but that makes me smile. If your heart is open to loving another little one, I don't think it will matter which sex you choose. I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Buying from a reputable breeder makes all the difference in the world. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...ant-puppy.html |
I have had 2 females and both have been cuddly and affectionate. There have been differences in their personalities but I think that has more do with their breeding and individuality. |
I'm so sorry for your loss. I think it really depends on the dog more then the sex. I do notice girls seem to have more of an attitude then boys which I love but my girl is a cuddle bug. In the US the AKC (American kennel club) is the only reputable registry all others will let you register anything even a coffee table. You can check out the ytca.org for breeders. Reputable breeders will keep there puppies until 12 weeks, they don't breed mixes, they have a spay an neuter contract, they do health and genetic testing that can not just be done by a regular vet, there dogs are AKC, they know there lines pretty far back, they don't use the word teacup and they are happy to answer any questions they you have. |
I've read everywhere that males are generally more affectionate, and very eager to please you. As opposed to waiting for you to please them. Lol. I have a male Biewer and he is definitely extremely affectionate, even at just 14 weeks. |
I am very sorry for your loss, and I wish you the best in your search for another Yorkie to share your heart. I agree with the people who say it depends on the individual dog. My Yorkies are boys, and they are very affectionate, cuddly. |
I'm really sorry for your loss! I originally wanted a little boy, but found our little girl and guess what, I still want a boy. My girl is super sweet and friendly, but not that affectionate or cuddly, unless it's with her dad. I've always heard boys are more affectionate, especially with women. Of course, it varies due to temperament, but IMO that wouldn't be the stereotype for nothing. Good luck finding your new pup! It's definitely worth looking into several breeders to find the one you want to buy from. You might start with YTCA.com and go from there, but there's tons of resources here on YT to help guide you to the right breeder for you. :) |
Pros and Cons Thank all of you for the input. May have to get a girl and boy. |
I have three females. All three are so different. Rosie loves attention when and only when SHE wants it. Mikki wants to be by my side all the time but not so much as a cuddlier. My new baby Lily is a lover! She wants to kiss and love all the time! I think it just depends on the dog. |
Since I've been married, we've always had male dogs (till Pip) and they've all been laid back and cuddly. I though Caleb was cuddly, he lays on me most of the time, when I'm standing he is on my feet. When I'm sitting he's on my chair touching my leg, or on my lap. Sleeps on my pillow or cuddled by my side. Then we got our Pippi, and now I know what 'cuddly' really means! She curls up in my arms, pushes herself into my shoulder, puts her head over my shoulder. If I sit, she jumps into my arms, even if we are outside and snuggles. In bed she put her head over my arm...very firmly and snuggles into my side, pit of my arm or her head over my neck. She gives a lot of kisses. She loves everybody and cuddles everyone, anytime she can. Loves visitors. The most loving dog, we've ever had. Even though our male Caleb is really bonded to me, and won't let me out of his sight, she is more cuddly. |
I am so sorry for your loss. I agree with the people who say it depends on the individual dog. My Biewer is a boy, and he is very affectionate and cuddly. Such a lover |
