What do you do? Boarding and Ponytails Hi Everyone, In Nov, I'll be going on a cruise and will board Pippin. She is just now getting used to her topknot and her bangs are starting to grow longer so now it all stays in without flopping in her eyes. Her topknot falls out and gets messy every day or other day. What do you do when you board your pups? There is no way her ponytail will stay in for a week. Should I cut her bangs and start all over again? Seeking advice. |
I'd ask the boarding staff to keep an eye on it and take care of it...it should be something they would do for you. |
1 Attachment(s) Pony flip hairstyle lasts a couple of days! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...p-topknot.html If you need the tool right away, you can use the floss threaders (from drug stores), like Sachi's mom, post #24. https://www.google.com/search?q=flos...icial&tbm=shop Or I have a couple of the smaller tool for $1, I can send it in a plain envelope. Just pay $1 + postage. Attachment 400847 It's the 2nd one on the bottom, the one on top is more for people, it's a little too big to use on doggies. The 2nd one toward the bottom has a smaller opening for the hair to go in, so you need to twist the hair (if it's long) & put it in through the smaller hole. I never boarded my pups, but some boarding places also have grooming available. Maybe if they have it, the groomer can take care of Pippin's hair? If not, I'm sure you can ask one of the caretakers to put the top knot up again. Provide them w/the brush, comb, terry scrunchies or bands...maybe show them how to do it if they don't know how. |
I agree with Ann and Jenny. Talk to the staff about grooming where you are boarding Pippin. She is going to need body brushing/combing too. Make sure they know how to do a topknot -- not too tight, and so on. |
I agree with the other comments. Growing the top knot hair back out will take you months. Since you're paying the people to take care of Pippin I would say the least they can do is give Pippin some grooming attention a few minutes each day. |
Thanks! Thanks for all the good advice. I'm going to look in to all of them. You are right, I really didn't want to trim her bangs. |
Hi!! I just got home from a cruise to Alaska Wednesday,so I totally understand where you are coming from! I left my boys in the care of my mother in law. She is NOT a dog person! Lol! I just gave her instructions to feed, change potty pads, play time, etc. I chanced the hair situation! I bathed the boys and pulled their hair up into a tight topknot. Aftera week and a half away, I returned to my oldest with his hair almost in Mint condition. (he is 5 and isnt very rowdy), and Mack Brown (my 3 year old "blue born") with a scrungee hanging on by a thread and knots to boot! With a bit of detangler, I got him fixed right up!! So..my point, DONT CUT THEIR HAIR! You can work with it! Have fun!!! |
Sophie Kate does not wear a Topknot but she does board, they are given instructions on brushing her daily and they always do it with no issue. Sophie Kate only boards at my Vet and they have a Groomer on site so I am sure that is her job. Also I know at my Vet they always bath the dogs before their owners get home (its nice to come home to a clean dog). |
