| Top knot not! I am trying to get my puppy used to grooming. Poor little guy is at the stage where his top knot makes him look like a mini sheep dog. I really am afraid to try a latex band. His hair is so fine that the little alligator clip bows just fall out. I thought maybe I had found the answer when I found the snap bow site and watched the video there so I emailed but never heard back. What have you found that will work ? Thanks. |

| Why are you afraid to try a latex band? When Lola was a puppy I used the hair bands from dollar tree, they're very thin and small. They held her hair well and didn't damage it. I didn't use clips unless we went somewhere because I was afraid she'd eat it. Now I use rainbow loom bands or tiny pony-o scrunchis. I think the rainbow loom bands will be too big for puppy hair. |

| My Chloe can't wear alligator clips and I bought her A LOT of them which haven't been touched. They are just too heavy for her little head, lol. You can keep your fur babies hair nice without clips, though! You don't need to be afraid of latex bands.. they are great! I have the medium/light lainee bands and the little grooming scissors. All You do is put it in their hair and then clip it out with the scissor. The scissor has a little hook on it to catch the band. I had to order the bands twice because I have both the small/light and medium/light. The small is very tight on delicate hair so if you want the band to hold the hair but not completely snag it then I'd go with the medium. You can also wind it around more times versus the small because the small is really.. small, lol. Wayne is great, too.. you can ask him for a sample of a different size with your order. http://www.laineeltd.com/cgi-bin/lai...ml?id=cEBja9mZ Also, another great thing for the short baby hairs that come out of the top knot is a snap clip like these: #SC0400 - Dog Snap Clips - Assorted Pastels, Set of Six : Dog Bows, Quality Dog Bows - Yorkie, Maltese, Shih Tzu - by BowBiz They are great and they aren't heavy at all.

| Those bands seem expensive just for some hair bands but they actually last forever because it's 1000 per pack so if you use 1 a day or even 2 a day.. that's a lot of bands for a really long time, lol. I do clip the bands with the scissors every night because that way the hair doesn't get snagged or anything. In my opinion I actually think the latex bands hold hair better than regular bands.

After I put the band in I loosen it a bit from all 4 sides with the end of a rat tail comb. | |

| Just make sure the hair isn't pulled too tight (the band shouldn't be right against the head), and make sure hair isn't pulled from the corners of the ears. Put the band in a little bit away from the scalp. Then pull the hair in the middle of the pony tail a little to tighten. For Max's first year or a little more, I took the topknot out at night and let him sleep without it. His hair is too long now, so I take it out, massage his scalp. He wears scrunchies most of the time.

| Thanks everyone for all for the tips. I ordered the bands and the scissors and will give them a try. I was so proud of him today (sorry, I have to brag on my baby). I've been bathing him weekly since I got him. (using Petsilk) First bath I tried the sink in the laundry room. He really didn't like that. Next I tried the shower with the hand held spray. He tolerated it better. Today he walked into the shower on his own and seemed to actually enjoy his bath. After I got him all dry, I started bathing my schnauzer girl and he wanted back in the shower with us. |
