Oliver is a rehomed so we did not pay anything for him. He just happens to be a Yorkie, we would take him in regardless. I didn't have a breed reference. Oliver is so far a healthy, loving and friendly pup, so fingers crossed. Health defects was a concern because we do not know his history. But I personally believe in adopting. I know some of you want this specific breed so of course it can't be helped but spending the money. Yorkshire Terrier is a somewhat expensive breed. It wasn't the money issues for me though. I just rather take Oliver in and care for him than having some irresponsible person does. People who rescue dogs at the shelter are either dogs lover or irresponsible people who want a cheap free dog out of selfish needs and would most likely wont see it through to care and protect these dogs. (I have seen many who adopt from shelters and give them away after a few months or complain or resent these poor dogs). While not to say with 100% guaranty, expensive dogs at the store will most likely meet a good owner (who are obviously willing to spend big money on them) or at least an owner who can afford to give them a comfortable life. |
I paid $800.00 for Sophie and the only real issue I have had was she had parasites. She is AKC Registered and I saw both mother and father and sister. Her sister looked just like her except Sophie is a lot smaller. She weight 4lbs 12 oz and will be 10 months on the 3rd of August. I too had to get her spayed to receive her AKC papers. |
**I bought Wylie from what I'd now call a BYB (but didn't know better then) for about $600...he has Cushings, Hypothyroid, LP (needed surgery), juvenile cataracts (is now pretty much blind at age 10), allergies, recurrent skin infections. But if you met him, you'd never know he had a single thing wrong - he's like a puppy! **I bought Marcel (my avatar) from a Show Breeder for $1400; his issues are he has allergies. **I bought Pfeiffer from a YT member for $1400; she has no health issues at all. Knock on wood :). |

If you do some digging on PetFinder, occasionally they do have purebred Yorkies in a rescue. I remember a couple of days ago there was this little 10 week old Yorkie up for adoption for $450 and he was located in Washington, but he's adopted now. But he was very, very cute! |
The lady that bred my pup sent me information the entire pregnancy and pictures every week until I picked her up. The parents of my pup belonged to the lady and when she said she would sell me a pup from her first litter she had no idea that it would be the only one that lived and had to be born C-section. But she kept her word and I paid $400 for Willow. Both parents are pure bred and licensed but I havent even messed with that stuff even though I was given the paperwork because I dont plan on breeding Willow or showing her, just loving her :) |
How do they verify AKC registration? What's to stop me from saying my pups are from AKC registered parents, when they really weren't? Maybe I could have 3 sets of dogs and only one is true AKC and I just say all my pups came from them? I just wondered as i was reading the thread. They don't do dna or anything right? I was wondering how much difference having papers or not really makes. (though obviously, your odds of a purebreed with papers would be higher than without assuming there are not more than a few breeders trying to pull such a scam. Just wanted to post whats in my wandering mind. |

We paid $850 for Graysee, from a broker, which we didn't know at the time, and still didn't until I became a member here, and was so informed. Fortunately, she has been 100% problem-free, quite healthy (although I have to get her teeth cleaned yearly), and is truly a joy. One of the best things we ever did was purchase Graysee, even as ignorant as we were about breeders and brokers. If I was to ever consider another dog, however, I think that we would get a rescue, as my heart has been touched by all the unwanted and homeless animals out there just looking for someone to love and care for them! |
2 Attachment(s) Maui was 600$. I found a breeder in Delaware through puppyfind. I visited her house and saw the kennel, Maui's mom and dad. She gave him to us when he was 8 weeks old. I know now, thanks to yorkietalk, that "no reputable breeder will let their pups go until 12 weeks". Fortunately he's had no problems, and he's happy. Here are some pics of that day |
