almost spaying time 4 Attachment(s) Winnie is now finished with her puppy shots she got her rabies today also she is 17 weeks now. Her next appt will be her spaying surgery i am little bit nervous about it but i know they will take care of her. Here are the pic of her at the vet and one of her wrapping her leash around my legs she does this quite often i think she trying to make me fall LOL here are a few other pictures of her as well she is now 5.2lbs i think she is going to be well over her weight her breeder said  |
Winnie is adorable! I love the photos of her with her tongue out. My little girl has her tongue out often when she can't contain her excitement. I personally would wait to have her spayed after her first heat or at least later so that you can have her retained teeth pulled at the same time. It's a decision you and your vet should make based upon what you both think is best for your baby. |

I agree she is awful young. She will not be done growing and her teeth, well at her age there is no way of telling which ones will go ahead and come out naturally. She is a cutie pie. |
She is young right now, but she did say next appt. That could be month from now which would make her closer to 6 months old. My Lexi was spayed at 6 months and that seems to be pretty common. When exactly is she getting spayed? |
thank you all for the concern winnie next appt is september 16 which is the date of her spaying surgery |
Make sure you do pre surgery blood work it is really important. In my opinion it is much better to spay before the first heat like around 6 months or so. |
thank you soo munch their gonna do all that before she goes in they told me she cant get after 8 either
What does this mean? She can't get after 8 either? And I don't feel it is necessarily better to spay at 6mths old. It for me would depend on a number of factors that should be talked over with your vet. The state of retained puppy teeth, her overall health,to name 2 things. And you mentioned she is only 17 wks old and has had all her shots, it is hard to see that this vet is going by the most recent AAHA guidelines. But I don't know your state law in terms of when rabies is mandatory to be given. My puppy got her Rabies at closer to 8 months old, and I would have waited longer, but did not want to risk any problem, as she as all my dogs are, are walked outside go swimming etc. |
My vet had said 6 months and at least 5 pounds before spaying. Since she is already over 5 lbs and the appointment isn't until mid September I don't see why this would be an issue. It's between yourself and your vet regarding her spay. Do you have some type of insurance that is covering the cost of her spay? Is this why you are saying she needs it done before 8 months old? Keep us posted how she does :) |

We were advised by our vet (not sure if it was because she was so tiny) to wait until Kyra's growth plates had closed. Also recieved the same advice from several here. Kyra had her first heat at 6 months and 2 lbs and our vet refused to spay her at that time. May be totally different with a larger pup. |
I would spay prior to the first heat. Good luck! |
My vet recommends six months. Our foster puppies are usually spayed at six months and retained inciduous teeth are pulled at that time. Winnie is adorable! Please keep us posted on her spay date so that we can support you...I am sure she will be just fine! :) |
